2003 Château Latour Grand Vin (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac) 5/11/2024sirpat0098

Part of a small BYO 100 Parker point blind tasting. 12h slow ox plus a brief decant. Beautiful base of sous-bois, cedar wood and pipe tobacco. Wide array of fruit such as wild forest berries, wild strawberry and blueberries. Well-balanced palate with nice and soft yet firm tannin, a long finish and a silky texture. In terms of fruit still fresh and juicy. A wine that is as solid as a rock while still coming across as incredibly elegant and refined. An outstanding Latour and probably one of the best ever made. 2009 Château Latour Grand Vin (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac) 5/12/2024Collector185598

Parker 100 Pointer Lunch, tasted blind: Best showing of this so far. I too k my friends advice and slow oxed for 12 hours and then decanted it for 1h. Still very young feeling both on nose and palate. Cool blue fruit with lots of aroma, dark berries, forest floor, restraint, aristocratic tannins, precise acidity. Very grand. Best after 2028. Upside from here. 98-100 (388 views)

Bought 7 years ago from Chateau directly. Pronounced nose intensity with notes of cassis, vanilla, toast, violet, mineral, chocolate, black currant. Medium+ acidity and medium+ tannin. In its drinking window with many years ahead. (168 views)

2004 Château Latour Grand Vin (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac) 5/10/2024godx94

Served Blind. From first sniff you could tell this is a high pedigree wine. Youthful but gorgeous with dark red fruits, licorice, hint of floral. First growth quality. I thought maybe Margaux from perfumed and floral nose, but after tasting this, went to straight to Latour based on the power. Structured yet classy with loads of potential and depth on the palate. After about an hour in the glass this started to clamp up a bit. This is certainly in its early drinking window, but there's a lot more to come. 94+ (233 views)

2012 Château Latour Grand Vin (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac) 3/25/2024ilee93

Every now and then in life, no matter how down you are on your luck, an unexpected gift or treat pops up for no reason. Every dog has its day. And so it was for me, to have this chance to drink a Chateau Latour on a random Monday evening. My chairman and I were meeting the boss of a large US bank over dinner, with the hope they would lend to us. Hearing that said boss of large bank likes wine, my chairman brought along this bottle, to show we were serious people. The bottle had been opened by the waiter, and the wine nicely decanting by our table at the restaurant, when said boss messaged to say he had a cold and would not be coming. It was the best piece of news I had heard all day! So we finished the bottle, my chairman and I.

Sorry, I say all this because for me at least, wine tasting is all about context. Where and when you drink something, with whom, and in what circumstances, has a huge bearing on my tasting experience. On this particular Monday, totally unprepared to face an expensive wine, I felt pleasantly surprised but a little underwhelmed. A very good wine for sure, dark and inky in the glass, with a luxuriously plush nose of telltale cassis, minerals, cedar and soy. Even a hint of new car leather. Full bodied but not heavy on the palate; just nice to go with strongly seasoned Chinese dishes. Tannins still prominent though, and not yet making its peace with the black fruit, which is rich and fulsome but a little wild around the edges. The finish is just moderate, it's a good length but doesn't take you to the moon. As I said, a very good wine indeed. But for this price, I'm sorry, I need a bit more than that. I need to hear angels sing.

(Or could it be, angels never sing at Monday evening work dinners?) (172 views)

2023 Château Latour Grand Vin (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac) 5/4/2024Jeff Leve98

Quite expressive in the nose which already displays flowers, blackberries, blueberries, citrus, and Cuban cigars in the nose. This is wine focused on its freshness, energy, purity length, and complexity. The wine exchanges power for a blend of elegance, spice, drinkability, vibrancy, and sapidity. It is a sneaky wine. At first, due to its style, you might think it is an easy wine. But, do not let the initial impression fool you. The wine continues building, expanding, and retaining its racy, core of dark, red fruits, with a touch of salt that shows up in the finish. The wine is a blend of 92.3% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 7.7% Merlot. 13.2% ABV. 3.75 pH. Harvest September 7-October 2. The length of the harvest is due to breaks between picking, parcels, and varietals. The wine represents 39.1% of the harvest. Drink from 2033-2065. 97-99 Pts. (456 views)

1996 Château Latour Grand Vin (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac) 4/20/2024toppcats@aol.com96

2 bottles of the '96 Latour opened for a family/friends dinner party. Low Neck bottle levels. Corks removed intact via Durand - no evidence of seepage. Color - translucent edge to opaque-deep garnet/no bricking. Nose - Dark fruit, earthiness and tar (not prominent). Palate - Dark fruit forward with suis bois, pencil and tobacco. Mouthfeel - full bodied with medium to long pleasant finish ending with soft/fine mouth drying tannins. Wine was enjoyed by all as it seemed to strike an excellent balance for those wanting a fruit forward wine, versus those who wanted a more complex wine experience. For me personally, while excellent, this was perhaps not a classic Latour showing as I would have expected less of the Left-bank classic style graphite/pencil aromas versus more tobacco/cigar humidor type aromas that Latour is known for. (I know - I'm being a bit picky here! Rating 95/96) (440 views)

1990 Château Latour Grand Vin (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac) 5/3/2024sdr95

Drink Bordeaux’s bottle. Superb, powerful, intense yet lifted by acidity and its balance. A lot of tobacco leaf to begin. Then Latour flavors of cassis and black licorice. Very Pauillac. Fully ready. (554 views)

1999 Château Latour Grand Vin (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac) 5/5/2024skurtz90

Decanted and enjoyed over an 8h period. Initially very closed, it slowly unwound but still by the end of the night was a sedate and intellectual wine. Mild to moderate nose of cedar, camphor, evergreen. On the palate, austere faded blackberries, wood notes, and tart finish. The austerity worked in the favor dinner tonight, as it was paired with juicy wagyu steak. Doesn't hold much interest as a stand alone wine. Given the cost and rep of the wine, a disappointing showing. (226 views)

1996 Château Latour Grand Vin (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac) 5/1/2024ricknat1

The Latour was theft of the three 96s, beating the Mouton, which was not evolved enough to drink and the Lafite which showed no lafite character. The condense scars these are just not ready yet which is surprising given they are 28 years old. (574 views)

97-99 Punkte.

No notes. Last glass at Addison with the savory ‘main course’. I am a huge Latour fan, boy band actually, but am not a ‘14 vintage fan in general as there are too many ‘better’ vintages for my palate in and around that vintage… of course there are a number of wines like VCC that keep me coming back… anywhooo this wine has the components you would expect (graphite, earth and such) but unfortunately some of the slow moving more linear characteristics at this stage of it’s evolution. Will it blossom in another ten years as Father Time makes the magic happen? Time will tell but was still a wonderful expression that for me, simply needs more time to better integrate the tannins and refine & define a bit more on the palate of that makes sense. 1961 Château Latour Grand Vin (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac) 4/29/2024rnellans98

Cru Crew Wine dinner hosted by Brad England (Mara restaurant at the Four Seasons hotel in Minneapolis, MN.): Served alongside '61 Mouton Rothschild, Lafite, LaMissioin HB and Petrus in a tasting/dininer preceeded by 19 vintages of Ramonet Montrachet. Needless to say, my palate may not be 100% up to par. Although not bought on release this bottle is the last bottle of a case and has been in my cellar for more than 50 years. Wow wine to me. Tobacco, dark fruits on the nose. It shines on the palate with layers of rich fruit, soft tannins. Very long lingering finish. Best of the flight for me without question. (456 views)
