3 hr decant. Black oil color on this Lokoya ‘14 Diamond Mtn. Scorched black fruits, tobacco, rich minerals, fresh spring flowers, worn leather, dark chocolate and hints of graphite. Incredible texture, big wine but light on its feet, floating acidity, ripe tannins on long finish. (65 views)

First time tasting this famous wine and I guess good things come to those who wait. What a wine!

Night 1: Decanted 1 hour and paired with steak.
Deep, deep ruby at the core and yet so vibrant at the edge.
Fruit forward, just as the sommelier promised (compared to Lokoya’s more mineral-oriented Howell Mountain cuvée).
Raspberry, blackberry, black cherry… evolved to plum. Hard to put your finger on it. Profoundly deep wine.
Oak, toast, charred wood, leather…
High acidity, high alcohol, ripe tannins slowly integrating but plenty of time.
Two min long finish. One of the longest I’ve experienced.
Drink now or continue to cellar for years.

Night 5 (wine under pump): wine almost as fresh as night one. (418 views)

Opened bottle about 6 hours before wonderful dinner at the Bistro on Cannon Beach, Oregon. Nose of light, aged wood and deep dark flowers.Palatte is full bodied, deep red and black berry flavors perfectly balanced with minerality and acidity. The finish, reflects the entire palate, just grows longer and longer, very much appreciated near the end of the bottle. Must be a great ( maybe last great?) window right now. (155 views)

Bought a few years ago from BM. My first 01 Lokoya Mt Veeder, had 1 glass then put back in cellar, drank over 2 nights; best day 2 with more air. Blackberry, black raspberry, spice, unsmoked cigar, damp earth and clay beautifully balanced subtle tannin. Memorable, but not at current $450 retail pricing. (271 views)

Nose: Crushed blackberries and black cherries, dried and frayed tree bark, a few sticks of unlit incense, soaked mulch and wet stones.

Palate: Brooding black fruits, the tree bark is now damp here, fresh new asphalt as if you’re riding down Highway 1, deep earth, and powdered 8B graphite and savory stones that trail onto the finish. Awesome freshness for a dark wine, making for an amazing lift and speed on the palate.

Thoughts: This was quite expressive with no kind of decanting, pop and poured and consumed over ~4 hours. Swirling in the glass helps a lot. Tasty now but can use some integration, about another 2-5 years of cellaring. I thoroughly enjoyed this the way it is though. A bit more grace would be nice so just a bit of patience can be rewarding. (1215 views)

A perfect wine in a perfect spot. Short decant. Deep dark color, supercomplex nose. Still youthful. Unbelievable explosion of blueberry, raspberry, black current, chocolate, espresso, vanilla, surrounded by exotic spices. Layers on layers on layers: this complexity goes on and on. Full and developed body, a powerhouse. The purity and intensity are overwhelming. Superlong finish with noble tannins. A monumental wine you will remember for many years. Wow. (250 views)
