Drunk with côte de boeuf for lunch . 13%. Medium garnet. A really rather good wine - exceeded expectation. Drinking perfectly. Very well balanced with lots of sweet red fruit, bright acidity and soft tannins. Rather elegant. (39 views)

Nose: subdued mushrooms and sour cherry. Tasting: somewhat roustique and floral onset, but not in a bad way. Good acid and length - red with some green notes, but still the fruit sweetness to balance it. Minerals, mushroom. (77 views)

Is this wine improving?
Not sure, but it certainly is evolving.
While the texture is resembling that of a traditional Volnay, the aromas are not. There's still this dominant aromas suggestive of either burnt rubber or a bad case case of mercaptans. either way, the aromas are unpleasant and exactly what is a Burgundy wine with unpleasant aromas? (38 views)

9 months since my last bottle, and this was my final bottle. Similar notes as the bottle drank on June 7, 2023, but this bottle seemed to be more youthful and still a little tight.

I had drunk a lot of Maison Champy's wines. I have come to the conclusion that this house had a lot of bottle variations. Perhaps that's the nature of a negociant winery. (86 views)

Medium pale yellow gold with green tint. Lemon, lemon oil, citrus peel, mild toasted barrel, honey, white flowers, hazelnut, summer English garden. Medium-full bodied, high acidity, medium structure, medium alcohol and long minerality finish. Complex, elegant, and precise.

This second bottle was even better than the prior with no bricking, dark cherry fruit and spice, some sweetness, tannins still present, nice acidity and a medium-long finish. An impressive effort from a “lesser” region in a great year and the wine was still coming on strong after 3 hours as we finished it No way would I have guessed this as nearly 20 years old.
