A private lunch (Restaurant Bak, Amsterdam, NL): Made with 100% Chardonnay from Vrigny. No dosage, as that might cloud the terroir expression. Earthy, spicy style, ripe citrus, bright acidity, lovely balance, intensity and length. (122 views)

100% Chardonnay, zero dosage. Lemon-yellow, fine bead; aromatic, pear, lemon, slight lactic acid; palate is medium bodied, elegant medium-plus acidity, not quite as sharp as expected for zero dosage (which is good...), lemons, quite pure but not as much depth as perhaps expected; finish is medium length. A well balanced and interesting champagne, showing purity of flavors and elegance but not the depth I'm used to seeing in Marguet single vineyard champagnes. Enjoyable, but I would not buy again for the price. 90-91 (74 views)

Bubbles at Dinings (Dinings SW3): Such a contrast to the preceding wine - my scribbled notes start with simply "COCONUT!", and as well as the abiding influence of oak (there was also a more tasteful sandalwood aroma) the wine really showed its relative maturity. The wine was actually relatively neat and tidy on the palate, with decent elergy, some tangy lime and a sweet lactic finish. This divided the table, but I enjoyed it quite a bit, especially once the initially stinky oak had settled down (~10 minutes in). (169 views)

Lovely pale gold colour. Very stinky nose - light strike? Very lively, fresh attack somehow blended with an oxidative profile on the mid palate and finish. Hint of orange. Initially, quite good energy but became quite flat. Not sure quite what to make of this! (89 views)

It was a wonderful evening for porch sipping on my friends new deck overlooking Buffalo Bayou. There was a pleasant breeze keeping any bugs at bay. Paired wonderfully with the authentic street tacos that were freshly catered by a local vendor.

I'm going to have a really hard time not blowing through my stash which if cannot back fill is going to be a bit of an issue.

So good.

Had very high expectations for this given how much I like the non-rosé Ambonnay from Marguet. Something was amiss here, not sure if an off bottle, but this really didn’t hit the mark. (187 views)

Honestly I find these wines quite odd. I'm not sure I can totally get behind them. They are unique but always have what I can only describe as an 'interesting' non- traditional profile. Almost a sous-voile, sherry thing going on. It's not an off bottle either because I've had these before. Doesn't strike me as something from Ambonnay either.

Don't get me wrong, it is a good wine for sure. There is good structure. Perhaps a bit too lean for my liking. I don't know, I just don't seem to get it maybe. (367 views)

A wonderful Rose' champagne over the two days open.

Zero sweetness, and I loved it. This was a very unique expression that was very singular for rose'. I took a flyer on futures through Double P Imports and it paid off. Now I need to try and see if I can get more as a sixer is just not enough for the long haul.
