2019 Veritas Vineyard Merlot (USA, Virginia, Central Virginia, Monticello) 3/27/2023full-lagrein8191

Wonderfully tasting Virginia Merlot; cherry and raspberry on the palate with an almost raisin like finish. There's a subtle earthiness of the terroir that makes the whole experience refined. It's really very good 👍. (442 views)

2020 Veritas Vineyard Claret (USA, Virginia, Central Virginia, Monticello) 3/9/2023isaacjamesbaker88

Deep purple color. Plum cake and black cherry pie, with black pepper, violets, smoky earth. The palate is jammy and plummy with ripe tannins and moderate acidity. Chewy but shows nice floral and earth tones. Fun stuff -- give it a shot! (347 views)

2015 Veritas Vineyard Vintner's Reserve (USA, Virginia, Central Virginia, Monticello) 11/8/2022goodvitis.com92

The nose features aromas of black cherry, black plum, black currant, hickory, and dried oregano. Nearly full bodied, the tannins are entirely smoothed out and nicely integrated with plush acid; the structure is quite nice and fully fleshed out. Flavors include salty plum, tart rhubarb, huckleberry, black pepper, and Chaparral. Things turn a little sweeter with extended air. Neither simple nor particularly complex, it's the structure that really sings. This is at a good place, and I doubt it'll spend much more time here before beginning to decline. (282 views)

2017 Veritas Vineyard Petit Verdot Monticello (USA, Virginia, Central Virginia, Monticello) 12/20/2021vagrantone88

Enjoyed in restaurant.
One of the few varietal Petit Verdot wines that I have tried.
I'm still not convinced that this variety can stand alone.
It simply doesn't have enough complexity and interest. Much like Malbec, another deadbeat horse without interest.
The wine was well made with only slightly excessive alcohol. It clearly falls into a brambly, warm climate, full throttle category. (456 views)

2001 Veritas Vineyard Chardonnay Reserve (USA, Virginia, Central Virginia, Monticello) 3/5/2004timewithwine

Tuesday, December 31, 2002 Toast, butter and vanilla on the nose and palate, but with some good Chardonnay fruit. Neither fat nor clunky. Not a long termer, but ought to be nice for the next 3 years. Able to stand up to and very enjoyable with some herbed smoked salmon.
Friday, March 05, 2004 Chardonnay, the kudzu of the 21st century. Even in Va. you cannot travel very far without tripping over a trellising of the stuff. A gathering of the curious, the enthusiastic and the thirsty agreed to swill some Va. wine and help determine what we billed as the best of the best, i.e. the best Va. Chardonnay from reportedly the best Va. vintage ever. Stand’n up food of pave de charic (sp?) and some other Frenchie cow cheese, crab cheesecake, prosciuto wrapped pears, cashews, smoked almonds, sesame crusted salmon and tuna with orange sesame sauce. The wines are listed alphabetically with my comments first and some of the comments of others noted after that. Parenthetical comments are my reactions to what others wrote on their notes. Veritas Monticello Reserve Chardonnay 2001 This was another wine I correctly guessed, but with only 3 out of 8, I’m not bragging. Too much oak. Other flavors of smoke, hazelnut, typical Veritas tropical fruit and, oddly enough, I could have sworn some orange peel notes. Good length of finish. Other comments: ’yuk, this grabs the back of my throat’ (I have no idea what that means other than a negative. This was the only strong negative about this wine. Most ranked it as either their first or second choice); good fruit, clean and crisp; light, very nice (by someone who liked it b/c of the butter more than anything.); ’flat’ (from the oak hog); ’dries at the end’; light with bitter finish. 2009 Veritas Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc Reserve (USA, Virginia, Central Virginia, Monticello) 9/10/2010timewithwine

A the silver-gold color on this makes you think of Sancerre, but the tropical fruits is more Aussie than Old World. But then the swing to cut grass seems to bring it all home. Just when you settle in, the finish whisks you off to the Continent with lime, limestone and mineral finish. Undoubtedly, the best Virginia Sauvignon Blanc ever made. 12.5% alc. With assorted cheeses and breads. Highly Recommended. (217 views)

2001 Veritas Vineyard Veritas Vintner's Reserve Veritas Vineyard and Winery (USA, Virginia, Central Virginia, Monticello) 9/10/2005timewithwine

Veritas offers up their meadows around the tasting room and an excuse to sell their wine while listening to well played 50’s cover music by The Cadillacs. And while we did buy some of their wine, we thought it fair to take one of their earlier efforts. It was the Veritas WOTN. Deep, almost opaque. Perfumed and perhaps a bit extracted. But this is good stuff with sweet black fruits of black cherry, blackberry, smoke and sandlewood. Well integrated tannins; round and smooth. Hard to believe this is 2nd leaf stuff. Gotta be mixed with someone else’s. With Mark and Stephanie at Veritas’ Starry Nights and dinner for an army .... but the four of us finished it nicely - grilled beef shoulder (faux tenderloin, said Mark), grilled veggie crusty bread in olive oil and cheeses galore. 9/10/05.

That night we also purchased their ‘04 Cab. Franc. It’s just a shadow of the ‘01. No depth, much lighter body and much greener tasting. No comparison really. Clearly a relationship, but hard to say it is from the same vineyard. (69 views)
