2016 Wind Gap Wines Syrah Armagh Vineyard (USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast) 5/24/2020jcp5

I’m not going to go as far as Prof B but I also did not enjoy this wine. At this point there is an overwhelming astringent characteristic on both the nose (acetone) and the palate. I’m going to assume that this fell victim to VA. In comparison to a 2007 Agharta I recently drank, well there was no comparison. This reminded me more of bulk California swill than anything. I don’t know if it will improve but I’d avoid. Purchased from Last Bottle so cant speak to provenance. That being said I’ve enjoyed a couple bottles of 2014 Wind Gap Woodruff Chardonnay which I also bought from Last Bottle. (1308 views)

2007 Agharta Wines Black Label (USA, California, North Coast) 5/9/2020jcp5

Still singing, this bottle was in great shape even with questionable providence from last bottle. Juicy black fruits on the tongue with nicely resolved and integrated tannins. Nose of some funk and game but mostly black fruits. Definitely more new world than old world but with more restraint and elegance. I’d say it’s probably near peak but still could go at least a couple years without missing much. Great juice. (2565 views)

1999 Maurice Écard Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Serpentières (France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru) 10/5/2018jcp5

Still a lot of life left in this. Pours light garnet with a good amount of bricking at the edges. Drank over 4 hours with no decanting. Plenty of acidity and still some tannins believe it or not. Just a bit of funk on the nose. Bright cherries all the way down at the start moving to more cherry cola alongside some forest floor with time open. (1159 views)

2016 Château de Grand Pré Fleurie Cuvée Spaciale (France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Fleurie) 5/31/2018jcp5

Bruised strawberries all the way down on both the nose and palate with a modest mineral finish. Really just delicious and easy drinking. Not much complexity just straightforward and fruit driven. Pnp and drank over a couple of hours with no decant - a very interesting thin light rouge appearance moving to pink/orange at the rim. Almost looks aged but is anything but. So fresh and clean with a very delicate mouthfeel. (1318 views)

1999 Maison Leroy Maranges 1er Cru (France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Maranges 1er Cru) 9/14/2017jcp5

Stood upright for a couple hours to allow sediment to settle. Decanted and then served immediately after to remove sediment, as I knew it wouldn't last long being shared between two. Enjoyed over the next hour and a half or so. Still plenty of acidity here. In the mouth tons of stewed cherries and plums and soft tannins, nose of more stewed fruit and as it developed a tinge of glasses. Drinking great now but still think this will be viable for quite some time as it held up in the decanter over and will most likely develop further. (796 views)

1995 Château Giscours (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux) 6/18/2017jcp5

Pnp and it was ready to go, just exploding out of the bottle. Color was quite brickish especially towards the edge. Nose of cedar, earth, and tar with more of the same on the palate alongside plum and black raspberry. Fully integrated with soft tannins and acidity. Don't know how much longer this has left but can say for sure that it was borderline incredible tonight! Awesome! (3695 views)

2012 Finca Flichman Dedicado (Argentina, Mendoza, Maipú) 5/9/2017jcp5

Delicious - jammy, extracted, black fruit forward with well integrated tannins. Nose was explosive upon opening but died somewhat in the decanter. Quite the long finish with spices and vanilla. Showed very well tonight but I would think that it also would hold up for some time still. (979 views)

2003 Dr. Heidemanns-Bergweiler Erdener Treppchen Riesling Auslese (Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer) 1/15/2017jcp5

Nose of petrol and rubber hose. Color is gold. Sweet and sour honey upfront alongside a medium to long finish with a buttery nuttiness. High viscosity and thickish mouthfeel. Still has nice acidity to it. I believe that this can still afford more time as I think the acid will hold up and help to integrate the sugars better. An enjoyable experience now but this might yet improve in time. (1076 views)

2011 Château Cabrières Châteauneuf-du-Pape (France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape) 10/6/2016jcp5

Hot and angular tonight. Tannins forefront - think this still needs more time. (1193 views)

2012 Pierre-Marie Chermette Fleurie Les Garants (France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Fleurie) 9/13/2016jcp5

I loved this and thought it effortlessly quaffable. Before I knew it the bottle was gone. The perfumed nose cries delicate but upon drinking brings a bright beam of fruit with sour cherries and strawberries alongside a nice helping of acidity and just enough tannin. (1602 views)

2009 Elephant Hill Pinot Noir (New Zealand, South Island, Otago, Central Otago) 5/24/2016jcp5

Pnp. A little heavier than most pinots. Aromas of ripe raspberries and cherries. Long finish with some nice black pepper and spice. Yummy. (778 views)

2006 Clarendon Hills Syrah Brookman (Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, Clarendon) 5/9/2016jcp5

Decanted for 2.5 hours and drank over the next four hours. Didn't open up as much as I'd hoped. Notes of graphite and pencil shavings. Very subdued black fruit with black pepper and still gripping tannins. Also contained a good amount of sediment decant with care. (2184 views)

2012 Williams Selyem Pinot Noir Eastside Road Neighbors (USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley) 5/8/2016jcp5

Pnp and drank over 3 hours or so along with a cheese plate. Red fruit with sour cherries forefront, cherry cola, flowers on the nose. Good (almost great) now but I believe it will develop over time still. (1914 views)
