Tasted by Zweder on 2/15/2024 & rated 93 points: In the bouquet red berries and garrigue. On the palate juicy red berries, good acidity and healthy tannin with still a good bite. Beautiful, complex and tasty wine. No hurry! (295 views)
Tasted by shellylowen on 8/29/2023 & rated 94 points: Amazing aromas, red fruit, smooth tannins that stay with a very long finish. (242 views)
Tasted by solace on 7/23/2022 & rated 92 points: Ruby red with a slight purple tinge.
Syrah on nose adds a sweet meaty red fruit melange element ehich dominates the nose but with age there is sweet garrigue, potpourri and sweat with hints of blood to balance it off. Some alcohol and heat on the nose which some may find disconcerting.
Palate confirms the nose. There is a pleasant soft sweet fruit core with secondary rhone characteristics. tannins have resolved. little oak. Good freshness from acidity. Long finish of mouthfilling light and bright red fruits melange, sweet kirsch, some soft sweet tannin and some secondary notes of vanilla umami and salt (but not yet cola). (394 views)
Tasted by JonnyG on 12/23/2021 & rated 94 points: White Burgs and Rhone Varietals To Go With Burgers and Thursday Night Football (Los Olivos, CA): Patience has been rewarded, as the oak is now completely unobtrusive and a leanness I had recalled was completely gone. Rich, seamless and flat-out delicious. The increased Syrah component from this vintage plays beautifully with the ripe Grenache. Just what the doctor ordered on a rainy evening, and a splendid accompaniment with burgers. Not sure I ever thought I would score a Gigondas so generously. (838 views)
Tasted by jkoenen on 8/11/2021 & rated 90 points: Indiscriminate and overblown.
Slightly disappointing. (862 views)
Tasted by WilD on 2/4/2021 & rated 93 points: Very feminin version of Le Poste. The nice chunck of Syrah helped this vintage. Great Perfumes with still bright fruit. Missing some garrique but great Gigondas. I think this wine needs to be drunk now since it won’t get better. (1117 views)
Tasted by tantotinto on 12/13/2020 & rated 94 points: Opened an hour before first pour. This bottle was superb. Better than the last by a good margin. Soft, spicy and elegant. (897 views)
Tasted by tantotinto on 8/29/2020 & rated 92 points: I have usually found the Le Poste to be feminine and elegant. Not so here. The Syrah addition in this vintage takes it to another place. Still good just more rustic. It probably was not helped by pairing it with Bolognese. It was an acceptable pairing but suboptimal. (909 views)
Tasted by lkilpio on 4/13/2020 & rated 94 points: This is the best of the 4 special cuvée Gigondas wines by the Château de Saint Cosme.

The wine is in an excellent condition at the moment: the tannins have already softened, but the fruitiness, although having somewhat lost its vitality, is still there. The wine displays excellent and alluring notes of iron, coal, tobacco and smoke, as well as ripe dark fruits and herbs. The decadent flavors of wet underbrush and barnyard are also there, but not too much on the foreground.

I wish I had this more. (1058 views)
Tasted by MattMauldin on 12/21/2019 & rated 92 points: Decades of Decadence - "The 9's" (Buellton, CA): Aromas of anise, black cherry, crushed stone and graphite. Concentrated dried black fruit, umami notes, graphite & stone on the attack, with a broad and full structure. Backwards in the moment, needs time. (1349 views)
Tasted by JonnyG on 12/19/2019 & rated 93 points: Decades of Decadence -- the '9' Edition (Our Favorite Spot in Buellton, CA): An unapologetically delicious wine, in excellent form. Loads of rich red fruit, with the ample Syrah component balancing the wine's ripeness. Others found the oak obtrusive and urged patience but I barely noticed it, and would not hesitate to open another. (1153 views)
Tasted by WilD on 12/6/2019 & rated 94 points: Beauty full Gigondas. Love the chunk of syrah to this wine. Can not stop sniffling this wine. (898 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 6/14/2018 & rated 93 points: UWS; A mixed set of wines (@ JB): Beautiful bouquet with red fruits, garrigue and a pleasant dose of oak. On the palate a juicy wine with beautiful herbs and spices, chocolate and fresh acidity. (1435 views)
Tasted by WilD on 5/18/2018 & rated 92 points: Let it breese in the bottle for 2 hours. Initially a fine nose but the fruit was backward. After some time in the bottle this wine improved. The fruit became more pronounced and the smell is still terrific. Nevertheless for me a wine to be drunk within 3 years. (1159 views)
Tasted by wineappellation on 7/4/2017 & rated 95 points: A beautiful Gigondas! Complex, chewy, flavourful with depth. Blackcurrant, strawberry, tea, dried flower, garrigue, mineral, sweet ripe tannins, very good focus. Well balanced you dont notice it is 14.5abv. Cannot stop drinking. (1619 views)

Tasted by Zweder on 3/18/2016 & rated 93 points: A nice evening with good friends (@ PZ): The bouquet is still youthful and shows ripe raspberries, cherries, garrigue and yoghurt. On the palate the same youthful impression, a firm amount of sweetness and good, fresh acidity and tannin. A lush wine with a good length and a good future. 93 (2242 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 3/11/2015 & rated 92 points: Monthly Tasting Group HWS #097; Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2007 vs 2009 (By RvD): I was told that this normally 100% Grenache was -for the first time- blended with some Syrah, because they were not completely happy with the Grenache fruits. Beautiful bouquet with fresh cherries, garrigue, caramel and tobacco. Same on the palate, a lot of cherries and also a lot of oak, beautiful acidity and soft tannin. 2½ years ago this was a fabulous wine. Now it is more or less in a dumb phase and the oak is a bit too much up front. Wait at least until 2018 before pulling the cork. For tonight my blind score was 92++ (2631 views)
Tasted by mattyboy_ on 1/5/2013 & rated 95 points: Spices galore!

A very intense bouquet of Rhone spices - lavender, garrigue, rosemary, jasmine, pepper, scorched earth, roasted plums.

Some serious grenache fruit - no ripe kirsch flavors here, this is more lean and taut. Very bright with a very long spicy streak of fine drying tannins that begins pre-midpalate extending through the long long finish. This is a keeper and will benefit from more years. Wow.

Intriguing. (3561 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 6/8/2012 & rated 96 points: A lot of herbs, spiciness, ripe black fruits and toast in the bouquet. On the palate juicy and concentrated, beautiful oak, sweet spices like cinnamon, mint, licorice and black fruits. A great wine with a great future. (4027 views)
Tasted by tantotinto on 1/12/2012 & rated 92 points: Tasted after a 90-minute decant. Crimson and opaque. Vibrant nose of earth, herbs, and ripe fruit. Smoke, raspberry, leather, spice, granular tannins and flashes of white pepper in the long finish. Seductively feminine in style and quite different from higher volume bottlings from this producer. I like it. Excellent now although with time this could become much more interesting. Scored based on where it is tonight. (3515 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.
