Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 85.4 pts. and median of 87 pts. in 12 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Geoque on 11/27/2011 & rated 92 points: Wonderfully refreshing, crisp with beautiful aromas of white fruit and kiwi. Good aftertaste. Can be your second served white wine (after a sauvignon or fume blanc) for a multi-course meal. (4185 views)
Tasted by winetennis on 5/29/2010: Interesting notes of minerality and green apple. Mid-palate has loads of a honey melon, a bit out of balance with the other fruit. Tart and dry finish with reduced creamy buttery flavors (as you would expect). (5225 views)
Tasted by DrinkNectar on 5/10/2010 & rated 86 points: 2009 St Supery Oak Free Chardonnay

•The Stuff: 100% estate fruit Chardonnay (Napa Valley) fermented in stainless steel with no malolactic fermentation. 13.7%abv

•The Swirl: Golden tone with green hues. There is a mild cloudiness to the wine.

•The Sniff: Bright dynamic citrus notes of lemon and granny smith apples. Seems fizzy on the nose

•The Sip: If I could take a wine and snap it like celery, this would have a sharp crack to it. The fruit play is moderately sour pineapple and grapefruit. The flavors are abundant and the acidity is on the high side. There is a slight effervescence that comes through. The finish is moderate.

•The Score: At $22, I score this wine a solid 3 out of 5. The score is lowered slightly because of the disjointed balance between the fruit, acidity and minerality. It’s a very refreshing wine that I would buy again to pair with spicy food or to take on the boat! (5275 views)

2009 St. Supéry Chardonnay Oak Free

The 2009 Oak Free Chardonnay is sharply focused with a beam of green apple, cantaloupe and a seductive aroma of fresh yeast. Vibrant and mouthwatering, the flavors of pear and melon fill the palate. It has a refreshly clean finish that highlights the mineral and fruit qualities.

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
