Community Tasting Notes (average 90 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 49 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Number51 on 8/16/2015 & rated 90 points: A little oxidized note lingers from start to finish, but it manages to be balanced out by tropical fruits and great acidity. Pineapple, banana nut bread, brown sugar, lemon oil, fresh cut grass flavors are quite pleasing in this 100% sauvignon blanc. It is rich and oily. (3522 views)
Tasted by GoBlue2002 on 6/18/2014 & rated 87 points: Quite an odd wine -- dry, with aromas of musty mushroom and citrus (perhaps low-level TCA?). A far cry from the 2010's I drank young last year - odd and not bad, but not what I was looking for on this warm summer night. (4745 views)
Tasted by team-blackburn on 12/1/2013 & rated 90 points: Brought to Thanksgiving dinner....light crisp a big favorite of the group. (5457 views)
Tasted by aagrawal on 8/23/2013 & rated 90 points: Medium yellow-golden color; nose has slight smoky oak, waxy citrus fruit, quite subtle in intensity; palate has medium body, fabulous acidity throughout from the midpalate through the finish, lime, citrus, a bit light on the fruit compared to the acidity; short finish. Based on my previous note in 2011, I think the oak has fully integrated now but it may have also lost some intensity of fruit. Overall this is a great value for sauvignon blanc/white bordeaux and a fabulous everyday pairing with food due to its high acidity (ie. I would buy again), but it lacks complexity or layers of many other better white bordeaux. Would not age further and would drink any other vintages of this wine within the first 5 years of release. 89-90 (5860 views)
Tasted by Redguy on 8/22/2013 & rated 91 points: Fantastic. Citrus and nicely proportioned light/med toasted oak... gives it a bit of a toasted hay note. Excellent acidity snaps the palate to attention and the medium richness and good concentration gives this depth and breadth. Will never be confused with the crisp grassy type SB. Nothing profound here, just a surprisingly complete little wine that is quite good. Seems like it is perfectly within its window now. Great value. (5712 views)
Tasted by oldgrowth45 on 7/2/2013: Drank over two nights, with and without food. Medium, lemon yellow color. Good body and concentration. Initial nose has citrus intermixed with a little oak. Initial palate has good acidity intermixed with a fleshy/musky finish. the concentration on the nose comes through on the palate. Long finish. Was equally enjoyable with food (pasta salad full of fresh veggies), or stand alone. Great wine for the price, would buy again. (3433 views)
Tasted by Number51 on 6/2/2013: This tastes a little damaged or oxidized, so the judgement is reserved, yet it showed plenty of acidity with honey and white flowers. (2518 views)
Tasted by NEwino on 4/26/2013 & rated 90 points: Really a nice crisp Sauv. Blanc. Drink them up (2168 views)
Tasted by vsbastosx on 3/8/2013 & rated 89 points: Very typical SB with very high acidity. If you're a SB fan, you can't go wrong with it, but this is not my case. Good wine anyway. (2012 views)
Tasted by Bowmanifesto on 1/20/2013 & rated 92 points: The mystery is who made this wine. It is made from declassified first growth grapes in France. My guess is Haut Brion. Regardless this is a stellar Sauvignon Blanc, in color, nose, palate, and finish. The $17 cost makes this a deal beyond believing. But not beyond experiencing. Thank you, Alex Shaw, for recommending to me. Being another great recommendation from you is no mystery at all. (2235 views)
Tasted by tbone on 7/8/2012: Off bottle, pretty sure it is oxidized. Smells like oak and sherry and tastes worse. (2925 views)
Tasted by Mark Brandon on 7/7/2012 & rated 91 points: Loverly... with mineral undertones. Agree with most of CT the reviews. (3053 views)
Tasted by bullmrkt on 7/3/2012 & rated 91 points: Nice floral, slightly cedar nose; medium to medium full body of crisp lemon, apple, bread, minerals; utterly balanced for a very nice finish with no hint of any heat. This is the best bottle to date by far, and may have recently entered a drinking window. (2718 views)
Tasted by kidsmurf2000 on 6/17/2012 & rated 93 points: A white wine for red wine lovers. Especially if you like a perfumed nose! Really good stuff. (2873 views)
Tasted by NEwino on 5/5/2012 & rated 90 points: Pale yellow with some sharp apple flavor that was somewhat muted by the crisp lemon. I really enjoy this as a nice crisp summer bottle of wine. (2555 views)
Tasted by cadams on 4/21/2012 & rated 90 points: Nose: lemon zest, pear, granny smith apple, white flowers
Palate: smooth, good minerality, good acidity, fresh squeezed lemon, baked bread, light body
Good qpr (2610 views)
Tasted by Gunman on 3/31/2012: Really nice sauv blanc. Bright and acidic, with vanilla cream on the finish from the oak. Good body. Seems strange to say it about a sauvignon blanc, but seems a bit lush. Served with mahi mahi in a meyer lemon herb butter, brown rice and steamed broccoli. Worked well. (2795 views)
Tasted by bullmrkt on 1/29/2012 & rated 90 points: Chalky orange and oak nose, weighty citrus palate, bright acidity, medium plus finish has a slight bitter heat on it, but nothing detrimental. It would be interesting to have seen what this would be like with some semillon mixed in as with most other bdx blancs. Very good though, a couple years will only improve it. (3039 views)
Tasted by Morg on 1/17/2012 & rated 92 points: Pale yellow in the glass, this 100% Sauvignon Blanc exhibits strong lemon flavors with a hints of green apple and toasted oak. Slightly viscous, there is some weight behind this wine. Very enjoyable and at $18 a very good value. (3571 views)
Tasted by aagrawal on 12/29/2011 & rated 92 points: Pale straw yellow color; nose has toasted oak, citrus fruits, fresh; palate has some oak, good white fruits, nice acid that really kicks in towards the late midpalate; clean and medium-long finish with plenty of acidity. This is an excellent balanced and fresh california-styled sauvignon blanc and is superb QPR at $20 (probably the best I have seen for sauv blanc). The oak isn't overbearing now, but I'm curious to see how it integrates over time and so will try to save my last bottle for at least 1-2 years. (3347 views)
Tasted by Redguy on 12/27/2011 & rated 89 points: Clear light golden with citrus and toasted oak on nose. Bright and decisive on the palate with lemon and green apple and just a touch of vanilla cream. Great acidity, very good concentration, and good length with just enough toasted oak to soften it a bit. Excellent SB and great value. (3209 views)
Tasted by blockboy on 12/8/2011 & rated 90 points: Clean mild citrus and grapefruit. Some oak and vanilla. (3501 views)
Tasted by bullmrkt on 11/24/2011 & rated 90 points: Agree on the pear/citrus nose, bright and crisp which was expected with 100% SB. Nice clean, dry, medium legnth finish. (3349 views)
Tasted by msilver on 11/13/2011 & rated 91 points: Very nice. Citrus and pear on the nose. Drinking very nice, a great white bordeaux. I will hold my other bottles a while. (3581 views)
Tasted by Hazeo on 5/29/2011 & rated 90 points: Rich and crisp, similar to my previous bottle but perhaps felt a little less complex/substantial. Still really great value. (4224 views)

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman
