Tasted by speedywine on 5/13/2024 & rated 92 points: What a fantastic wine: It has EVERYTHING you would like to smell, to admire and to taste ! (502 views)
Tasted by MariusA on 1/2/2024 & rated 94 points: I was a bit worried about this wine given all of the Parker references in the other notes, and whereas I'm a big admirer of Robert Parker, I'm quite sure "parkerization" is not meant as a complement to any winemaker or chateau. As it turns out, my concerns were overblown and I was pleasantly surprised by the bottle I pulled out of the case (my first). [The wine was purchased upon release and stored in the owc.]

Big? Yes of course.
Intense black fruit? Yes
Tannic? Yes but not harshly.
Secondary notes? Some
Is it a 100 point wine? Not in my opinion but I'm also not qualified

Overall, my wife and I thought this was a very pleasant bottle of Bordeaux. In my experience, the delicious Pape Clement '05 has not improved with age and I would suspect the '10 will not either. The wine is open for business and will probably mellow for some time before it starts fading. If you own multiple bottles, it might be time to try it out. (2653 views)
Tasted by garymiller737@gmail.com on 7/12/2023 & rated 95 points: Deep purple and still opaque at age 13 or so .

Pronounced and still evolving nose of cassis, blackberry liqueur, vanilla and bright blue fruits. Very impressive.

Full bodied with a ton of flavor concentration , plenty of structure and a long and delicious finish.

This cuvee is obviously not shy with the oak and extraction (which may turn off "terroir" snobs) , but for the style this wine is delicious and I'm happy to have a few more bottles in the cellar.

Drink now or hold for 15 + plus years if stored properly. (3284 views)
Tasted by Sacramento Geezer on 5/27/2023 & rated 95 points: Based on reviews, prior experience, and preference I opened and decanted at breakfast. Nose was a wonderful blueberry, chocolate and saddle. Double decanted before dinner and it was delicious first taste. Yes, definitely Parkerized. More Napa than classic Bordeaux. AFWE that I am I still liked this wine but would always go for the more subtle terroir-expressive reds that may not stand out to Parkers when they’re “tasting” 100 wines in a sitting. (3371 views)
Tasted by Collector1855 on 5/14/2023 & rated 92 points: Bordeaux 2022 en Primeur and some recent vintages: 1996, 2000 and even 2001 Pape Clement are among the finest Bordeaux experiences I have ever had. After that, this winery switched to excessive Parkerization. The 2010 shows this. Very dense, more Napa than Bordeaux. The balance is not right. (5061 views)
Tasted by ayalao3 on 4/28/2023 & rated 97 points: Black fruit, espresso, gamey, sometimes reminded me of a syrah. The best of the lineup including 2000, 2010, 2011, 2015. Will last 20 years easily (3373 views)
Tasted by Iamwine on 12/21/2022 & rated 99 points: Can you say “awesome” to a wine without being platitudinous? Okay, I dare it. Because I have drunk this red graves and it gave me all what I can expect from a Bordeaux including the smell of horse saddle, a detail that to some people is a failure. So: it starts with Dunhill Morning Pipe (tobacco and plum). Than lots of blackberry, burned wood, cherry and: horse saddle. In spite of it all: a lingering cool note and a jodine finish. Everything goes very well together. Gorgeous. (3399 views)

Tasted by VDLT Wine on 12/10/2022: Extremely dark red. This seemed oddly advanced to me. It lacked verve and energy. (2041 views)
Tasted by Elpaninaro on 7/8/2022: inky black-red color, tightly closed nose, on the palate ripe blueberry, chocolate, cherry and oak, alcohol noticeable but not to the extent it was on the 2000 alongside, this is bigger and more extracted than the 2000 as well making for a big sexy and tasty wine, but I think it may remain in this state all its life, that said going "all the way" down the path to a modern approach is giving a much better result overall- even if not quite what this AFWE palate would hope for.

Tasted by DrZett on 4/27/2022 & rated 94 points: Wow - a lot of fruit, this is a big wine. Lots of dark berries, ripe black cherries, plum, tobacco. Firm tannins, but nicely integrated. Fruit driven structure. Great depth. Nice savory and long finish. Drink from 2025-2040. (IG) (2885 views)
Tasted by KenPlace on 12/5/2021 & rated 93 points: Too young. PnP. Needed at least 4 hours. Good nose, but closed. (4252 views)
Tasted by BritBrit on 11/20/2021 & rated 96 points: 51% merlot, 47.5% cabernet sauvignon and 1.5% petit verdot make up this deep garnet colored wine. Notes of boysenberry, prune, lilac, gravel, cedar, tobacco and vanilla. Full bodied, medium acidity, and high tannins that are ripe and grainy. Very long, fruity finish with bold freshness.  Tasted by Collector1855 on 10/2/2021 & rated 93 points: During a structured blind tasting of a few top names of Bordeaux 2010. After having tasted all these wines on release I would give the following advice. 1) The quality is top, a very grand vintage 2) The wines are sometimes quite massive, bordering Napaesque 3) Tons of fruit and tons of tannins, but ripe tannins, don't be worried about them, time will be nice to Bdx2010 4) Most importantly: After 10 years there are almost zero tertiary notes in any of the top wines. So don't touch them till they are 20 years old, yes that means not before 2030. I made the mistake drinking some of my Bordeaux 2000 with 10 to 15 years of age and I deeply regret that now. I will not make that mistake again with the 2010s. Hands off for now!
TN: Decanted for 2h. Very rich and chocolaty. Too much for most at our table, some were comparing it to a Vega Sicilia with lots of American oak. Clearly a wine from the "The more the better" Parker era. (5163 views)
Tasted by Paul S on 9/30/2021 & rated 96 points: 2010 Bordeaux tasting (Jln Sejerah): Wow. This blew me away. One of my favourites amidst a really strong flight of 2010 Bordeaux. It had an amazing nose, with fragrant wafts of cassis and sweet plums, tobacco leaf and cigar spice, all patted down with a little earthy undertone. Absolutely heady, perfumy stuff. The palate was clearly youthful, but boy - this was a Pape-Clement par excellence. Brilliantly integrated, effortlessly elegant, and supremely balanced, it just danced across the mouth in beautiful flavours of sweet cassis and blackberries, laced with gentle notes of spice and earth as it pulled into a lovely, perfumed finish with just a hint of florals around the edges. It was the clarity and purity of the whole package that really got to me. A bit modern in its ripeness, but this certainly had a freshness and verve that was reflective of Bordeaux at its very best. A really lovely wine, already giving so much pleasure now, but with its best years easily decades ahead of it yet. (3852 views)

Tasted by Hppr Cellar on 4/10/2021 & rated 97 points: Perhaps more Napa style then Bordeaux but we loved it all the same. 2 hr decant. Drinking wonderfully now but will be interesting to see how it progresses over next 10 yrs. (3419 views)
Tasted by Cailles on 6/29/2020 & rated 87 points: Bordeaux 2010 - 10 Years On - 61 Reds: Bordeaux 2010 after 10 years. 61 reds, mostly big names, tasted blind. Average score 92.1 and lower than the more open and charming 2009 vintage last year (93.4). A few observations: A) It’s not yet the harmonious, complex, classic, clean vintage. Especially the masculine appellations of the left bank need at least 5 more years to just open up, potentially longer to soften. B) Left bank trumps right bank thanks to less detectable alcohol, cleaner lines and the two best wines of the vintage (Mouton, Margaux). C) Pomerol shines bright with many strong wines which can all mask the high alcohol levels (best AOC slightly ahead of Pauillac). D) As in 2009, there are several right banks already past peak, incl. big names (Duffau Lagarosse, Ausone). All in all, 2010 is a very good vintage with pockets of greatness but today 2009 shows more open and hence complex. More information, top and worst 10 list, appellation rankings from five participants in the story link.

TN: Boy, this was a big disappointment. There is so much unintegrated and to be honest fairly cheap oak aromas that I first thought that the bottle has cork or some other fault. Underneath there is so much extraction and very ripe fruit that you think you drink a completly overdone cheap Spanish Tempranillo. I‘ve had this wine a few years ago (no CT note) when it didn‘t show so overdone but this bottle was the caricature of a Bordeaux. EDIT add-on: I've had the 2015 recently it it felt almost as cheap right after opening, with tons of unintegrated oak. Magically after a double decant and 7+ hours back in the bottle it transformed into a beautiful wine without this disturbing oak notes. So maybe the right amount of decanting will turn this 2010 into a beautiful wine (in this tasting the wines were not decanted).

Decanting: Fairly open, doesn‘t probably need more than 2 hours at this point.

Tasted by sirpat00 on 6/21/2020 & rated 87 points: Grand Bordeaux 2010 ten years on tasting; 6/21/2020-6/22/2020 (Fribourg): Big Bordeaux 2010 2-day horizontal hosted by a private collector. My 3 main takeaways from the vintage were 1) more frequent perception of heat, 2) a slightly stronger left bank and a less consistent right bank, 3) while in general it is still too early to pop the 2010s, wine selection is key as some appear to be in decline already, especially on the right bank. The top wines were Mouton (99), Margaux (98) and VCC (98). The biggest positive surprise was Clos Manou (95). Biggest disappointment was Pape Clement (86). More details and complete tasting overview included in the tasting story.

Tasting notes:
Alcoholic nose with over-ripe, jammy and fruit. A heavy palate with plenty of mouth-coating tannin and little joy. Apart from the few corked bottles and a handful of oxidizing wines on the right bank this was the largest disappointment for me. Over-extracted and ridiculous oak deployment were in no way worthy of such a classic estate. (6584 views)
Tasted by Michael777 on 2/12/2020 & rated 92 points: Concentrated and sweet like jam or liqueur, that's not Bordeux for me, you can get that in California too! Was Robert Parker drunk when he gave the wine 100 points? (6386 views)
Tasted by Stray Cat on 2/4/2020 & rated 96 points: Delicious. A great wine to celebrate 36 years of happy marriage. The only problem is that after we finished the bottle we were looking around for more. (5601 views)
Tasted by Indran Rajendra on 1/31/2020 & rated 96 points: 2nd tasting of this wine within a month. This wine scored 100 several times a few years ago. Has started developing aged characteristics. Firm structure and intense fruit. Peaty iodine aromas/flavours. Graves like gravel/plum. Starts deteriorating after one hour from opening. It will be interesting to follow this wine over the next ten years. (5454 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman
