Tasted by mr21cbs on 6/1/2020 & rated 93 points: Still young and vibrant. (2242 views)
Tasted by ravbik on 11/25/2019 & rated 93 points: Moderate tannins, lots of sediment
Raspberry, sour cherries, earthy, flint, mild leather.
Relatively mature but amazing how much tannins and life left (2480 views)
Tasted by Lord Marc on 11/3/2019 & rated 88 points: This wine might be past its prime. The after taste was a little raisiny, the tannins are soft and the fruit is kind mellowed out. I would drink it before it becomes salad dressing. (2421 views)
Tasted by ecola on 7/23/2018 & rated 91 points: Drinking really well at this stage. Medium body with moderate acidity. Red berry with earth, dry hay, and subtle herb action. Soft tannins on the long finish. (3840 views)
Tasted by gajalaa on 2/19/2018 & rated 91 points: Color is dark purple
Nose had Cherry, Black Currant and Plum
Finish is long
I thought it might be past its prime to drink but it was still good (4522 views)
Tasted by pdbender on 11/24/2017 & rated 94 points: Full bodied dark purple gorgeous pour, dried plum and blackcurrant, little tannic quality. Smooth and spicy lovely long finish. (3371 views)
Tasted by DFBW on 4/10/2017 & rated 92 points: Was worried about this one but no need. Knew the moment I pulled the cork it would be good and it was. Two hours with the cork out and then a further two in a decanter. Deep ruby colour in thy glass. Loads of deep red fruit on the nose and a beautiful rich flavour without being overpowering in any way. I have a case of the 2010 - tried one bottle which was lovely but it needed time and this has shown me why. Lovely aged Brunello. (4434 views)
Tasted by acorelli on 7/16/2016 & rated 91 points: Still bright and youthful, but ready. Not terribly complex, but delicious. Nose dominated by cherry plus some violets and a little tobacco. (5487 views)
Tasted by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy on 4/11/2016 & rated 90 points: Popped and poured. Always good, and good value, but seems rather closed down now. Maybe it just needs some air time - will try again tomorrow. (5293 views)
Tasted by tsdv on 1/3/2016 & rated 89 points: Enjoyable. Deep, dark, ripe, tasted like a hot year. Smooth. (4569 views)
Tasted by sequoiagrove on 10/6/2015 & rated 92 points: Perfect drinking right now. Brick color, subdued dark fruits, with earth, tobacco, little chocolate, and hay. Quite some tannins left on the finish. It has that mature feeling thats I get from 2001 napa cabs. Only one bottle left. The store said 2003 would mature faster than typical vintages. The next in the line is 2004. Wonder when that will be as ready as this, then. (4749 views)
Tasted by sortiarius on 5/2/2015 & rated 86 points: Dark brown hue. Classic sangiovese nose with cherries. Medium body & acids. Tannins a bit to weak. Fruits a bit weak too. Short semi-complex finish. Probably would have been better a couple of years ago. (4051 views)
Tasted by ILarsen on 3/21/2015 & rated 89 points: what a disappointment - 2003 is not a great year - I like 2004 from this wine - the wine was clearly okay - but I am lacking the personality of the wine - it is still sticking - missing the balance - that I get from the 2004 - fruit and cherry is very visible - but just not interesting - still however an okay wine (3178 views)
Tasted by Baron Slick on 12/28/2014 & rated 92 points: Ruby core, with a hint of maturity. Deep bouquet of cherries, black raspberries, leather, earth, and mulch. Rich, well integrated, showing tenacity and structure. Dry, teeth staining, initially earthy, but two hours in the decanter brings out layers of mixed berry fruit, hordes of complexity, and an edgy balance that frames the long, peppercorn spice finish. A lovely Brunello. (3244 views)
Tasted by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy on 11/22/2014 & rated 92 points: Decanted for one hour and drank over the next three. Always a favorite. (3701 views)
Tasted by jdrago on 11/5/2014 & rated 91 points: Very light color; orange on the edges. Initial aromas of strong fresh cherries and some forest floor. Initial taste of cherries; smooth; no tannins long finish but surprisingly the cherry taste was not nearly as strong as the aroma.

After about 30 minutes the aromas had lessened but after opened for 1.5 hours the tastes of cherries, wood and forest floor were very predominate and nice.

Needs food. Very good on Day 2. (2751 views)
Tasted by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy on 5/10/2014 & rated 90 points: Decanted three hours before drinking. Purplish-black in colour. STRONG nose of cedar, vanilla, tobacco, plums and blackberries. Big, bold, edgy, acidic. Some heat. Relatively short tail with hints of black cherries. (3850 views)
Tasted by drum-wine on 2/27/2014 & rated 92 points: Wonderful Brunello nose, violet, vanilla and an earthy, leather texture accompanied by a solid tannin structure.
Maybe some of the fellow-trackers had a Brunellopoli (aka Brunellogate) Bottle. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brunellopoli. It certainly would explain their dissapointment... (3553 views)
Tasted by Dont_panik on 2/22/2014 & rated 89 points: Nice Brunello. Hints of dark cherry and tobacco on the nose. Good mix of fruit & earthiness. Drinking very well now. (3271 views)
Tasted by Taffi on 1/12/2014 & rated 87 points: Kraftig og søtlig Brunello som er god til mat(biff), men vanskelig å nyte uten. (3075 views)
Tasted by SonnyChiba on 12/30/2013 & rated 91 points: Decanted for about 30min...and got continuously better in the glass. Nose was still a bit closed, but a lot of earthy/barnyard components, some nice smoke and red fruit flavors came through. Great mouth feel. Very soft, with dark cherry and some vegetable components, into a smooth but not long finish. Not overly complex, but enjoyable brunello wine, that drinks great now (still good to go for some more time as well). (3131 views)
Tasted by DennisL on 9/29/2013 & rated 91 points: Stands up well to a pepperoni pizza. Nicely balanced right after opening. Flowery nose. Black cherry, almost cedar (2998 views)
Tasted by WY Leonidas on 2/9/2013 & rated 91 points: Very dark garnet with brick edges. Smells of black pepper, dried cherries, vanilla, and some kind of herbal quality. Taste - Dark dried cherries, maybe plums, black peppercorns, and very earthy. Beautifully balanced and silky smooth, but the finish is leathery and the earthy notes seem to linger on for some time.
I'm no expert on Brunello, but this is a very good wine. Went perfectly with Peposo - really brought out the peppercorn flavors. (3995 views)
Tasted by KVM on 2/3/2013 & rated 91 points: Medium red. Alcohol first then forest floor and cherry syrup. Lovely silky menthol and dark fruit. Shortish finish otherwise it's outstanding. (3616 views)
Tasted by Jab_343434 on 1/26/2013 & rated 89 points: A Good Brunello, dried cherry and tobacco smooth finish. A little weak, toward the end of its drinking window if you ask me but still good. (3847 views)

Sangiovese

SANGIOVESE: (Pronounced "sahn-joh-vhe-se").
Sangiovese - Italy's claim to fame, the pride of Tuscany. Traditionally made, the wines are full of cherry fruit, earth, and cedar. It produces Chianti (Classico), Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montepulciano, Montefalco Rosso, and many others. Sangiovese is also the backbone in many of the acclaimed, modern-styled "Super-Tuscans", where it is blended with Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc) and typically aged in French oak barrels, resulting a wine primed for the international market in the style of a typical California cabernet: oaky, high-alcohol, and a ripe, jammy, fruit-forward profile.[16]

Semi-classic grape grown in the Tuscany region of Italy. Used to produce the Chianti and other Tuscan red wines. Has many clonal versions, two of which seem to predominate. The Sangiovese Grosso clone Brunello variety is used for the dark red, traditionally powerful and slow-maturing "Brunello di Montalcino" wine. The other is the Sangiovese Piccolo, also known under the historical synonym name Sangioveto, used for standard Chianti Classico DOC wines. Old vine derived wine is often used in the better versions, needing several years ageing to reach peak. A third clone, Morellino, is used in a popular wine blend with the same name found in the southern part of the province. Recent efforts in California with clones of this variety are very promising, producing medium-bodied reds with rich cherry or plumlike flavors and aromas. Among the available clonal versions are R6 and R7, derived from the Montalcino region of Italy, having average productivity/ripening and producing small berries on medium size clusters. R10 and R24 are well-recommended. R23, listed as deriving from the Emilia-Romagna region, has good vigor with medium-small clusters with earlier ripening. R102 derives from the Montepulciano region and reported to have average vigor with moderate productivity that results in higher sugar levels and good acidity from medium-small berries on medium-small clusters. Has synonym name of Nielluccio where grown in Corsica.
