Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 89.5 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 39 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by UpfromtheCellar on 5/24/2020 & rated 90 points: Round mouthfeel with great expression and length. Stones with lemony tropicals developing across the palate. Finish is balanced nicely. (1008 views)
Tasted by vagrantone on 4/1/2018 & rated 88 points: Nice bottle of Chablis. Despite the warm vintage, it still shows very good Chablis character even if a firmer acidic backbone would have been preferable. While it doesn't have the interest of a Cru vineyard, it's still a very enjoyable bottle of Chardonnay. I would drink it over the next 2-3 years. (1524 views)
Tasted by dmitchell4 on 12/24/2017: Took to Christmas Eve at Vickie’s to go with Poke. (1464 views)
Tasted by brinko99 on 4/9/2017 & rated 90 points: Pure fruit, clean and long. There's a lot to like in this bottle though a bit superficial. (1969 views)
Tasted by wgmccallum on 2/19/2017 & rated 90 points: Golden yellow. Mellow stone fruit aromas with a hint of salinity and oyster shells. On the palate, smooth and full bodied with a rich spread of fruit edged by a nice acid edge, bitter citrus rind lift at the back and a long finish. Feels more mature and balanced than the last time I tasted it; very comforting. 50 + 16 + 16 + 8 = 90. (2078 views)
Tasted by 2caveman on 1/1/2017 & rated 89 points: Solid chablis with little wow factor. Drink by 2018 (1758 views)
Tasted by davidspieker on 12/28/2016 & rated 90 points: Light gold color. Fresh citrus and mineral aromas. Delicate apple and slate flavors with nice weight and finish. (1358 views)
Tasted by eb1202 on 7/9/2016 & rated 89 points: aroma of apples and a bit lemon, mineral aromas and a lot of flint.
medium minerality, delicate fruit and acidity. Good Structur and quiet powerful. Very nice for a simple Chablis. (1849 views)
Tasted by 2caveman on 4/18/2016 & rated 90 points: For their village Chablis, this has real class. Wood is present in good measure to give weight and structure. Nice length and surprpsing power. Very impressive QPR and can't wait to see what the 1ier cru offers (1450 views)
Tasted by wgmccallum on 3/7/2016 & rated 90 points: Pale yellow. Lovely nose of oyster shells, zesty lemon, sourdough. Medium weight on the palate with smooth fruit, beautiful acids mounting to a long acid finish. Just delicious and beginning to develop some verve and character compared to my memory of the last time I tasted it. 50 + 17 + 16 + 7. (1408 views)
Tasted by skifree on 1/17/2016: This made the best Kir - loved it though of course cannot score it. (1600 views)
Tasted by chifred on 12/11/2015 & rated 90 points: Sad day - last of 6 bottles. Great wine - perfect balance of acid, mineral and fruit. Complex enough to avoid being "just" a pleasing gulper - and less than $20. So many wines 2 and 3 times more expensive not nearly as well constructed. (1552 views)
Tasted by cse on 12/3/2015 & rated 92 points: a classic (1329 views)
Tasted by btock on 11/20/2015 & rated 90 points: This has come together very nicely. Engaging minerality on the nose. Light stone fruit pulled me in. Light on its feet, well balanced. Great from first sip. Enjoyed this very much with a panko cod dish. (1172 views)
Tasted by chifred on 11/12/2015 & rated 89 points: PnP. 55F. Medium yellow. Full nose with apricot, sweetish fruit, hint of earth and mineral. Good acid and nice progression from initial attack to gripping finish. Minerality over apple and pear on the palate. Nice solid chablis. (1140 views)
Tasted by Bradley Love on 11/4/2015 & rated 91 points: Great balance with a lot of acidity. Cut right through lobster ravioli. Some minerality and wax on the back. Good fruit to fill it out. (1129 views)
Tasted by wgmccallum on 10/12/2015 & rated 89 points: Not a detailed note, from memory, clean fruit aromas with a hint of minerality on the nose, nice balance of acid and fruit on the palate, a lovely aperitif Chablis. (1066 views)
Tasted by dmitchell4 on 9/10/2015 & rated 90 points: Not as mineral driven as I expect from a Chablis, more fruit driven but enjoyable (1104 views)
Tasted by Siim Kumpas on 7/13/2015 & rated 87 points: The first thing I noticed was the slowness of its legs. And then came the aroma. What a bouquet, seriously! One of the perkiest I've had the chance to experience. The taste didn't stand out that much. Nevertheless, there was a nice balance between the citrous juiciness in the beginning and the mild bitterness in the aftertaste. (1198 views)
Tasted by jim dixon on 1/12/2015 & rated 90 points: lean and lovely (1627 views)
Tasted by joraesque on 1/8/2015 & rated 90 points: Medium bodied and creamy, with a strong citrus backbone alongside excellent minerality and a saline finish complemented by subtle lemon rind flavors. Nicely floral bouquet too. Acidity is medium; just right to balance out the richness of the wine, but not high enough to match a shellfish dish. Paired excellently with "Sol le duc", a creamy (French) sole curry.
Best served at room temperature and consumed within 60 minutes.
One of the tastiest bottles of Chardonnay in recent memory for me. 13% ABV. (1437 views)
Tasted by jeffal66 on 12/30/2014 & rated 90 points: Clean, focused and mineral. Good intensity, acidity. Lingering. Well made in the vineyard. (1453 views)
Tasted by TwoSmoochies on 12/8/2014 & rated 85 points: Punky - smells like too much sulphur (1477 views)
Tasted by davidspieker on 11/25/2014 & rated 88 points: Light gold color. Fresh citrus aromas and flavors with nice body and excellent balance. (1481 views)
Tasted by btock on 11/8/2014 & rated 88 points: A nice, straight forward Chablis. Round and balanced. Juicy lemon notes, a touch grassy. Agree with another TN in that I also did not pick up much flint. I like buying this kind of Chablis from Garagiste - $15-$20 range for everyday drinking and brings a strong sense of place. A jarring contrast to some domestic chards at same price point! Will get to remaining bottles in next 1-2 years. (1231 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Chablis

Chablis (Fédération de Défense de l'Appellation Chablis) | Chablis (Burgundy Wines)

2014 Vintage Notes:
"... a hybrid of 2004/2007 and 2010. The stone, citrus and limestone amalgam is exactly what we search for in Chablis as the style harkens to a day in the Cote de Beaune proper (1960's - 1980's) when wine was not meant to be consumed the week it was released, battonage was not used by all and new oak was rarely seen ... the texture is natural and 'of the vintage' not 'of the winemaker' .... Like Sancerre or the Loire in general, 2014 in Chablis is one of those rare years with extract and transparency. It appears to be a vintage for the "neoclassic" ages and those of us intent on cellaring the most terroir-driven (but still powerful) examples of vineyard, site-place and varietal will want to invest (heavily) in the magnetic and electric 2014's." - Jon Rimmerman

2018 Vintage Notes:
"There’s not that razor sharp Chablis acidity in 2018,” says Patrick Piuze. “But there is good definition of place. The dry conditions drove vines to drink deeper down in the soil profile."
