Tasted by peternelson on 8/27/2023 & rated 92 points: In perfect shape, this baby aged so well for a muscadet, lots of minerality, sea salt, oyster shell, nice balance, good verve, would love to have this with shell fish. EWG Loire dinner at Otono.
Sooo good with the pan and tomato bruscheta thing. (367 views)
Tasted by ekorn on 12/31/2022 flawed bottle: Oxidized (548 views)
Tasted by cweiss on 1/22/2021: I wasn't so impressed by this vintage early on but it's drinking beautifully at age 12. A natural match for simple panko-crusted cod. (1609 views)
Tasted by James Kim on 10/31/2020 & rated 92 points: Drank this beside the 2018 Briords. Opened for 3.5h for this note. Flint, minerals, sea air, tart and baked apples with a hint of iodine on the nose. On the palate, mostly tart apples with a bit of baked apples, herbs, chalk and fantastic minerals accented with some iodine. With more air, nice honeysuckle notes come through. Rounded, mildly creamy mouthfeel with excellent acids. Nice finish with added bitter grapefruit pith. Poured 1/4 bottle into 187 ml bottle. On day 5, nice honeysuckle notes with tart and baked apples, minerals, and almost floral sake type aromas (best that I can describe it),and a hint of herbs. Palate with nice lemon, tart apples, minerals, and a hint of honeysuckle. Rounded but the excellent acids come through. Lovely. (1581 views)
Tasted by wineshlub on 4/30/2020 & rated 90 points: Opened one hour in advance. Lemon cream aroma. Full, creamy flavors of citrus and minerals. Tart lemon finish.

Lively, fresh, taut backbone, great staying power. Excellent. (1831 views)
Tasted by collin on 6/8/2017: No formal notes, but really freakin' delicious (3058 views)
Tasted by Andrew Layman on 5/28/2017: n/a (2885 views)
Tasted by leekyuh on 9/21/2016 & rated 95 points: Complex, crispy, dry, mineral, sharp. Very tasty. (3412 views)
Tasted by psmith on 9/18/2016 & rated 89 points: Still a good backbone, with a nice dose of salinity, mineral, and citrus fruit. More mature that I remember it, and fattened up nicely. Great stuff. (3410 views)
Tasted by sawira on 8/24/2016 & rated 91 points: Beautiful! Crisp, saline, great acidity, drinking perfectly. (3360 views)
Tasted by psmith on 3/12/2016 & rated 88 points: Seawater and lime. Lighter bodied, with an intense mineral dose and a pleasant tart, acidic streak. Still few signs of maturity, but enjoyable enough. (2951 views)
Tasted by cweiss on 7/10/2015: Not the best vintage of Briords (not as bracing or as intensely mineral) but still very good. I'd say drink or hold. (3317 views)
Tasted by MLipton on 6/20/2015: Still zippy and mineral, but now with a slight hint of oxidation in the finish. Time for me to drink up! (2620 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 5/31/2015: MuscaDay 2015: My favorite wine in this flight, perhaps of the night. Delicious, exotic, refined, full of complexity. So much chalk and minerals, but the green pear and apple fruit is still going, a creamy, richer aspect accents the acidity. Wonderful stuff, still seems to have years ahead. (3278 views)
Tasted by slanum on 5/1/2015: My last bottle and there's no question I wish I had more. Not so pale now. An utterly unusual, though quite pleasant, aroma that calls to my mind something more like rock dust than it does any fruit or flower. Different but good (and I mean different compared to all the other Briords I've had--atypical). The palate is lemony rocks. Still going very strong. Looks like I bought only five bottles of this, which was a bit shortsighted. Very, very good. (2579 views)
Tasted by stubbie999 on 3/16/2015: Yes, still delicious. Less racy, more creamy. Still seashell lemon rocks and saline, but age has put a few pounds on the formerly sinewy body. No longer a rock-hard club kid, now a sexier, curvier, more mature Muscadet. Did I just write that? I did. (2220 views)
Tasted by tooch on 2/4/2015 & rated 94 points: Reunion Dinner in DC (Red Hen - Washington, DC): Served really cold at first, it wasn't until this had warmed up a bit and seen some air that it began to soar. A gorgeous rendition of the Briords and actually showed a bit more weight than I would have thought. Tasted a bit what I'd expect from Pepiere's Clisson. Anyways, this had beautiful lemon, flint, florals, and an ocean water tone to the bottle. Brilliant bottle of Muscadet. (3037 views)
Tasted by brooklynguy on 5/25/2014: Lovely showing. Took an hour to open up fully but when it did it shows a briny oceanic quality that is in terrific balance with the preserved lemon and stoney notes, and the vibrant acidity. Delicious and expressive wine. (4393 views)
Tasted by Sweet Nancy on 5/9/2014: Light color, very clear, nice citrus fruit and fairly long finish. Great balance of fruit and acidity. I wish I had more! Went well with steamed mussels. (2720 views)
Tasted by xwine on 4/19/2014: While I like drinking my Muscadet young for its bracing, refreshing qualities, this bottle makes a good case for leaving them alone for at least a few years. Wow, this was nice! A nice creaminess to the texture, yet still zippy and fresh. A lovely accompaniment to the salmon cakes! (2586 views)
Tasted by sleepyhaus on 3/29/2014: Awesome bottle yet again. Really sorry that it was my last. Vibrant acidity, great minerality, slight floral note. Loved it. (2634 views)
Tasted by ghood on 9/28/2013 & rated 91 points: Damn, I'm drinking these too fast! Down to one bottle left of the '08. Not sure why I've been guzzling this down over my '05 and '07 Briords (maybe because it's at the front of my wine cabinet and easier to get too?! ;)). Still really youthful and with great salty minerality and lemon peel. I fear my supply will be exhausted before it really comes into its own. 91+. (3183 views)
Tasted by slanum on 9/24/2013: Pretty lively! That was my first impression. Strikes me, on this occasion, as having pronounced lime-like characteristics: blossom on the nose, fresh-squeezed juice on the palate.

I've had 24 hours to reflect and finish the bottle and I think this is an extraordinary Briords, one I wish I had much more of. (2366 views)
Tasted by cweiss on 8/11/2013: First I've had since 2009, and drinking really well. Less angular than many vintages of Briords but plenty of minerality and a twist of lemon zest. What's not to like with steamed lobster. (2546 views)
Tasted by ghood on 2/10/2013 & rated 91 points: First bottle of '08 in about a year and it hasn't budged since then... actually, looking back at my tasting note from that bottle, this one seems less evolved even... all salty mineral, seashell, with lemon undertones. This deserves a '+'... 91+. (2785 views)

Melon de Bourgogne

Melon de Bourgogne or Melon is a variety of white grape grown primarily in the Loire Valley region of France. It is also grown in North America. It is best known through its use in the white wine Muscadet.

In the U.S., Federal law prevents "Muscadet" from being used for American-produced wine; only the full name of the grape, or the shortened "Melon" can be used.
