Community Tasting Notes (average 90.1 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 547 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by hargy on 4/9/2024 & rated 91 points: pale and lively with just enough oomph - wonderful aperitif - good for a quite a few years and may well improve (667 views)
Tasted by Eric Becker on 3/24/2024 & rated 92 points: From 2019 (52%) and 2018 (31%), the remaining 17% from the reserve perpétuelle, disgorgement in 2023.
This iteration tastes very similar to last years blend from 2018 and 2017 (see TN 02/2023). A very elegant and refined Blanc de Blancs, almost understated to a fault. Medium-bodied and medium-intense flavours of citrus, a touch of raspberries (despite being a pure chardonnay) and only some sweet pastry but a good dose of chalk. Very fine perlage and a soft and caressing mouthfeel. While labeled as extra brut this is not austere and despite its youth this is readily drinkable due its perfect balance.
We had this together with an Alfred Gratien Blanc de Blancs 2015, which showed more autolytic notes of sweet pastry and lees and had more impact and sweetness on the finish but was also a bit more coarse and maybe less chalky. (737 views)
Tasted by 1fyuragi on 3/7/2024 & rated 90 points: Vitigno: 100% chardonnay. Assemblaggio: 52% 2019; 31% 2018, 17% réserve perpétuelle. Tirage: 2020. Colore giallo paglierino; perlage fine, lungo e persistente. (834 views)
Tasted by Rezy13 on 1/20/2024: Very fresh and vibrantly pale color for what could be 6-10 years in bottle; pristine nose of fresh white fleshed apple, cream, almond, a little lemon zest, very similar to Rocknroller’s note, clean and precise BdB that is fresh and vibrant like the color suggests with the only problem being this wasn’t a magnum. (1111 views)
Tasted by Krister Larsson on 1/11/2024 & rated 91 points: Drack på Ms 70-åersdag. Underbart gott (1115 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 1/10/2024 & rated 93 points: Pizza Night on the Parkway (Candie's, Mpls): Light gold color. Drank a glass over 20 minutes. Last bottle, cellared for 5 years. Excellent, rich, toasty, pear, almond cream, lemon, apple peel, full bodied, great energy. (1010 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 12/26/2023 & rated 91 points: not blind, Magnum
Great aperitif champagne. You feel the roundness of the BdB from Cramant. Creamy, not too sweet. FResh. 91 (1067 views)
Tasted by Eric Wright on 11/25/2023 & rated 91 points: At La Scene Theleme with SL. Delicious classic BdB. Lightly toasted (1219 views)
Tasted by WindFlyer on 11/4/2023 & rated 92 points: pale gold, small persistent bubbles – elegant appearance. rose petal filigree to the nose of brioche, red apple, and citrus zest. tart on the entry and then blossoms to a melange of white fruit, key lime, green apple countered by a chalky, subtly saline vein; some deeper and richer nutty notes emerge with time and warmth. very very long.

2019 Tirage (not sure of disgorge date); while absolutely lovely, it is still tight, fresh and young, and with quite a bit of upside potential. i'll give my remaining bottles a handful of years.

12.5% AbV; 4g/L dosage; 100% Chardonnay from GC vineyards (Cramant, Chouilly and Mesnil sur Oger); 2018 (63%) and 2017 (23%) base vintages, and 14% perpetual reserve (started in 2009) wine. (1040 views)
Tasted by Sheila62 on 11/2/2023: Love this champagne. Found these LP11 hiding in a corner in my cellar. Just perfectly balanced. Lovely, served with my interpretation of Ottolenghi's Carly peppers with Labneh, and crisp pita. (1247 views)
Tasted by honest bob on 9/22/2023 & rated 90 points: Loire valley (and a little Champagne); 9/14/2023-9/22/2023: From open 75cl at DV cellar door. This bottle based on 2017 and 18 wine from Cramant, Chouilly es Mesnil sur Oger with 15% perpetual (=solera) reserve in huge oak vats, started 2009. 4g dosage, bottled 2020, degorged June 2023. Dense, tiny, mouth-coating bubbles. Being so freshly degorged, this wasn’t giving a lot away today, but it's evidently deeper and more complex than the „basic“ BdB tasted directly before. A hint of subtle oak from the perpetual reserve, a touch more weight from the extra gram dosage, and certainly finer base wines. I plan to give this 3–4 years before opening my first bottle. 89–91P (1573 views)
Tasted by DougLee on 9/9/2023 & rated 91 points: Delightful. Light golden hue. Nose of fresh cut grapefruit, apple core, lime, and rinsed stone. Layers of fine-cut crystalline citrus, granny apple, and biscuit on the palate with energetic fizz and stony structure. Longer finish of tart and sweet white fruit amidst flinty freshness. A terrific Champagne for a very fair tariff. (1300 views)
Tasted by honest bob on 8/13/2023 & rated 92 points: Purchased 2020 at cellar door, 2017 base wine. P+P. Just superb. Tiny bubbles; exquisite balance of toast, mineral structure, citrus and gentle sweetness. Very long and veeeeeery moreish. 91–92P (1335 views)
Tasted by Diane (LI) on 7/21/2023: Juicy, floral, grapefruit rind, and Granny Smith apple. Quite gulp-able. (1364 views)
Tasted by coremill on 6/16/2023 & rated 90 points: September 2020 disgorgement, 4.5 g/L dosage. Classic BdB nose of green apple, pear, jasmine, pasty, and chalk. On the austere side, not a lot of flesh, tart lime with chalky grip and good length. It may be too austere to be a crowdpleaser but I like it. (1532 views)
Tasted by JVG on 4/30/2023: Not sure about disgorgement date, but I bought this bottle in 2013. No formal notes. Absolutely lovely and delicious. Chalky, floral, both fresh and rich. Intense, long. Fabulous. (1657 views)
Tasted by honest bob on 4/29/2023 & rated 90 points: From 75cl. Just one year on from my previous bottle of this disgrogement (based on the 2017 vontage, but not dated on bottle) noted on CT on 29.04.2022, this is showing more balance, heft and less sharp acidity. In fact: it's just a beautiful Chardonnay with a hint of oak from the reserve wine giving delicious structural backbone. Should continue to improve for several years. 90P (1673 views)
Tasted by Eriklainen on 4/23/2023: Red apples. Develops during the evening. Milk chocolate on the palate. Some raspberries. Love when NV champagne isn't only characterized by the matured reserve wine. This bottle had about two years in the cellar and perhaps the time bode well for integration. Had next to Savart NV overture and, sure, that was a more recently disgorged bottle but I found that bottle a little more disjointed. Perhaps time would have helped that bottle as well. (1485 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 4/19/2023 & rated 92 points: Clean, cut, flowers, low dosage, very pretty if not super complex or intense. Lincoln after piano party (1557 views)
Tasted by MLipton on 4/15/2023: Slightly toasty with a good core of fruit (citrus and pear) and a clean finish. Very tasty. (1323 views)
Tasted by hfc on 4/1/2023: Magnum bottle stored in a far from proper environment for 5 years. The wine was in good shape. (1215 views)
Tasted by Benoit Hardy on 3/18/2023 & rated 92 points: Champagne Diebolt-Vallois blanc de blancs Prestige

Perpetual reserve, grapes only from the grand crus of Chouilly, Cramant and Le Mesnil.

Warm nose, a touch of exotic fruit and brioche.

Mouth that combines purity and elegance. What suppleness for a blanc de blancs whose recent disgorgement can be imagined! The wine is sapid. High quality juice, textured and with tension. The ripe fruits quickly give way to a chalky explosion and a saline finish over a good length.

For €35 at the estate, we have a top-notch blanc de blancs, racy and affable at the same time. (1440 views)
Tasted by Eric Becker on 2/25/2023 & rated 93 points: From 2018 (63%) and 2017 (23%), the remainder from the reserve perpetuelle. Solely Grand Cru from Cramant, Chouilly and Le Mesnil sur Oger.
Young and exquisite. Super fine mousse. On the nose the champagne is very pure and refined with discrete but sweet yellow fruits, a touch of raspberries and sweet brioche. In the mouth this is not the most powerful or structured, above all this is elegant and gentle with very fine fruit and minerals, delivered with extra brut-dryness, a caressing texture and an equally fresh and smooth finish.
The winery says, this is their signature cuvée. And yes, it is a sophisticated and wonderful blanc de blancs (and superb value). (1651 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 12/31/2022 & rated 93 points: New Years Eve Celebration (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)): Light plus gold color., shimmering. Three years of additional cellar time. Drank a glass at midnight to usher in 2023. I wasn't taking notes at this point, but I remember thinking, damn, these are really good and I need to seek out more. Excellent QPR, these have pretty much everything I'm looking for. Sophisticated, sea air, clean chalk, yeast, good toast, lemon, brioche, very crisp. Drank the rest several days later and it was still really good. 92+ to 93pts. (1807 views)
Tasted by classicalspin on 12/24/2022 & rated 88 points: Disappointing for QPR. Don't over chill. (1439 views)

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.
Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
