Community Tasting Notes (average 91.6 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 37 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by drwine2001 on 2/9/2024: New Zealand and French Chardonnays (Auckland, New Zealand): Deep yellow. Caramel, brioche, and dark fruit. Weighty, dry, serious, creamy, and powerful. Excellent maturing Champagne. (804 views)
Tasted by Oli_Vilmo on 1/19/2024 & rated 94 points: Very round and balanced, aged well and ready to drink now (425 views)
Tasted by TWSA on 11/7/2023 & rated 90 points: Nose: honey, nuts, white flower,
Notes: disgorged 2015. 65% pinot and 35% Chardonnay. Quite crispy and dry. Quite intense with a sharp and spot on finish. I believe at this stage the wine is still quite young and should be cellared further. I've enjoyed this and I believe it has plenty of potential with it.
Drink: 2030+
Rating: 90 (767 views)
Tasted by acidqueen on 8/5/2023 & rated 94 points: This is a fresh, lively vintage of CdG that remains very easy to drink without losing its ability to age. Crisp apple flavors with mild biscuit. Creamy round body smooths out the evident acidity. An all around crowd pleaser that will just get better. (993 views)
Tasted by Cooky474 on 3/5/2023: Bloody lovely!

Very young. Obviously pinot dominant but still lithe and elegant. (1503 views)
Tasted by acyso on 2/28/2023 & rated 90 points: Dujac and Moreau come to town (Chicago, IL): Cleaner than some of the other bottles of Goisses I've had, without the intense mushroom notes. Still, a little fat and for a champagne, slightly cloying. Always a bit of a weird wine. (2063 views)
Tasted by RayOB on 8/4/2022 & rated 92 points: Drank at 67
Really in a good place (1630 views)
Tasted by acyso on 5/2/2022 & rated 90 points: Pausing for the Cause 2022 (Chicago, IL): Oddly, this is more fresh than the 2007. It doesn't show as heavy on the mushroom notes and you get more bright acidity and freshness to the fruit here. Surprisingly lean for a pinot-heavy 2006. The more I try Goisses, the more I realize I just don't grok the wine. (3074 views)
Tasted by RayOB on 12/31/2021 & rated 91 points: Drank any 67
Fresh crisp and young (2182 views)
Tasted by dream on 11/19/2021 & rated 91 points: Nice Champagne. Excellent purity like most vintages of Goisses. Still young and fairly subdued but with perfect balance and some lovely mineral and nut flavors on the finish. 91+ (2026 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 8/21/2021 & rated 91 points: Sam's 60th Birthday (The Krengels - Bannockburn IL): Magnum. Lots of apple with toasted brioche, gingerbread and some nutty notes on finish. A very big wine that will reward further cellaring if it integrates more. (2874 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 5/6/2021: Back in the Saddle (St. Dinette, St. Paul): Medium gold color. Drank 2 glasses over 90 minutes plus. Nice nose that wafts from the glass offering complex notes of lemon, lemon confit, straw, apple, apple peel, dough and marzipan. The palate is brisk and also complex. Apple peel, citrus pith, liqueur, chalk, lemon oil, dough, anise, white grapefruit and that older Lopez oxidative/lacquer character. This is dense and layered, yet for me this comes off too pithy and bitter for my full appreciation. Gut feeling about 92pts. (2427 views)
Tasted by nynrgtrader@gmail.com on 12/26/2020 & rated 92 points: Med Lemon
Iodine, mineral, citrus peel, lime
Fine, tightly knit bubbles enhance this mineral driven wine (2235 views)
Tasted by Aravind Asok on 7/8/2020: Anniversary wine! On the nose: lovely brioche, cranberry, a touch of va lifting the red raspberry and lemon fruit. On the palate, fantastic acidity, good richness, lemon, cranberry, brioche, excellent density and mousse, soft white pepper, and a lovely finish. On another night this would have been fantastic, but the '80 Sorrel hermitage alongside was transcendent, and this paled by comparison. (2363 views)
Tasted by acidqueen on 3/20/2020 & rated 94 points: Wonderful now. Pale straw color. Notes of hay, honey, light white flowers. Still young, but no harm in drinking it now, and certainly easy to do. I could drink a whole bottle of this myself. (2451 views)
Tasted by fcxj on 10/15/2019 & rated 92 points: Reduction, quite vibrant. (2768 views)
Tasted by fred o. on 4/27/2019: movie night (in spirit, Santa Barbara, CA): light straw golden color with subtle bead. Textured feel in the mouth, smooth yet deep with some richness; orange and peach flavors with a citrus pith complexity towards the finish. A treat to try, still very young. 92 pts (2671 views)
Tasted by Ms. Bubblehead on 3/8/2019: Blind tasted it. Guessed it was in late 90s Pinot Noir based champagne. Certainly felt the wine was rich and more mature for its age. Almond, honey nut, and ripe yellow fruits on both nose and the palate. Good to drink now. (2857 views)
Tasted by Burgnick on 3/6/2019 & rated 90 points: A rich and opulent champagne in a ripe vintage. Big orchard fruit, nuts and minerals. It had decent weight but lacked acidity. Drinking older than its true age. Large-scaled champagne. (2441 views)
Tasted by JOsgood on 11/23/2018 & rated 86 points: Too sweet for me. Just a bit unfocused. (2396 views)
Tasted by the godfather on 11/23/2018: Powerful and red fruited, very good stuff (2532 views)
Tasted by 5laton on 9/23/2018: Disgorged May 2015, dosage 4.5 g/L. Drunk over three days, this started out pleasant and slightly developed but rather tight, and relaxed a bit more each day. By day three it was very tasty indeed with lovely spice, yellow mirabelle plum fruit, and toast. Will try to wait at least two years before next bottle. (1420 views)
Tasted by acyso on 9/17/2018 & rated 93 points: 1996 Jadot Horizontal (Chicago, IL): Glad I have some of this. It's an incredibly large-scaled champagne, with huge amounts of browned apple, nuts, and mushrooms. The pinot character is really distinct here. This is rich and powerful (sans classist overtones), and there's incredible mineral character on the finish. Obviously young, but on the other hand, the flavours are umami and rich enough that I don't know if I'd be super thrilled with more development. (2829 views)
Tasted by salil on 9/17/2018 & rated 92 points: Big, rich, packed with ripe fruit and just lightly oxidative to a point that it's in my wheelhouse without the nuttiness being too overwhelming for me. This was drinking really nicely, and has me thinking I need some CdG for the cellar. (2293 views)
Tasted by wineduggery on 5/12/2018 & rated 92 points: Brioche dominates the flavor profile. Very smooth, nice mouth feel, fine mousse. Too simple for the price. Not enough fruit to balance the yeast. (2626 views)

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.
Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
