Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.8 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 11 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Barry Rothof on 10/4/2019 & rated 91 points: Wagner-Stempel EMT Lunch (Restaurant Vineum, Rotterdam): From D-Magnum. This is tangy, crunchy and mouthwatering fresh with refined citrus, finesse and perfect balance! (700 views)
Tasted by Bob H on 5/25/2019: This is drinking very well - I just finished a glass of the '17, and this is better across the board. A more nuanced nose, with that white fruit cocktail over slate note that I often get with Riesling.

Then more expansive on the palate than the younger wine, with a salty note on the finish. In a word, delicious. (694 views)
Tasted by Bob H on 8/12/2018: Light golden in the glass, with a slate/minerally note most pronounced on the nose.

I just had a Nikolaihof Federspiel, and following up with this really emphasizes the residual sugar in the wine. Sweet & tart, with good acidity - and pretty drinkable. (916 views)
Tasted by Bob H on 5/16/2018: Light yellow in the glass; light fruit salad on the nose.

Light-bodied, and pretty tasty if not overly complex. 12.5% alcohol per the label, and this is pretty easy to knock back. (1165 views)
Tasted by Bob H on 4/10/2018: 3rd riesling in a row - my wife is making pork chops with mushrooms, white wine (in fact, this wine) crusted with bread crumbs and grated sharp cheddar, so I thought the rieslings might make a decent pairing (plus, not too bad drinking on their own while your waiting for dinner!).

The nose on this wine has more perceptible sweetness than the Nikolaihofs. More "rounded"/less focused than the other two wines on the palate - I probably didn't do this wine any favors by drinking it last, but it is still pleasant. (921 views)
Tasted by Bob H on 12/29/2017: Golden-colored in the glass; focused nose with white fruit cocktail (pineapple & peach).

Crisp, with bright acidity - dangerously gulpable. Maybe a bit short on the finish, but hard to complain given the price. (670 views)
Tasted by Bob H on 9/17/2016: Screw-capped; my 2nd look at this wine in the last month or so. Light yellow-gold in the glass. The nose has a hint of "sweetness" to it, almost like freshly cut pineapple (and I will caveat that by saying that I just tried three very dry Boulay Sancerre's, so perhaps the off-dry nature of this wine is a little more accentuated after that).

Nicely balanced with up-front acidity on the palate. Decent persistence, but somewhat "foursquare" at this point. Not bad, but also not overly memorable. (845 views)
Tasted by Bob H on 8/6/2016: My first time trying this vintage; light yellow in the glass, with a sweet note on the nose.

Prominent acidity, tart, light-bodied, saline note as well. I was just drinking some Macon, so probably a difficult transition, but this is certainly interesting. (806 views)
Tasted by jonanator on 5/4/2016 & rated 91 points: Can't keep my hands off this wine. So tasty right now. (728 views)
Tasted by jonanator on 4/5/2016 & rated 91 points: Very good. A nice RS level balanced beautifully with just enough acid. Lots of lovely minerality. Very good (660 views)

#2014 Vintage Notes:
2014 Vintage Report by Terry Theise
2014 Vintage Report by Wine Spectator
"My gut still tells me the Saar (and to some extent) the Ruwer are better overall in 2014 than the more storied areas of the Mosel proper, but those that spent the requisite time living in their middle-Mosel vineyards made some of the most electric and "feathery" Riesling in a long time (maybe the finest in 20 years - yes, it's true!)" - Jon Rimmerman (Of course only a very short historical memory would call the Saar and Ruwer less 'storied' than the middle Mosel - jht)
