Tasted by RJWallis on 4/21/2024 & rated 95 points: Rich, luscious mouthfeel, long lingering finish, exceptionally well made, drank and later with a chicken confit. (249 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 8/3/2023 & rated 95 points: Dark lemon yellow. Very pretty nose, peach, tropical fruit, toast , marzipan, touch of vanilla and oak, with a long and pleasant finish (849 views)
Tasted by Barsacpinci on 5/19/2023: Big vanilla nose. Oak is very evident but quite balanced with the fruit and acid. Lots of stone fruit flavors. Drinking very well right now (749 views)
Tasted by learningandenjoying on 2/1/2023 & rated 94 points: G20; 4.5+8.5*+4.5+8.5*+8.5*+4.5+4.5=94; Straight from the fridge and into the glass. Beautiful golden color. Very aromatic even at refer temp but these comments are principally after 20+ minutes in glass. Bit of petrol on the nose during the first 30 minutes. Butterscotch on the nose and palate. Fermenting orchard fruit as well. Mouthfeel has a smoothness, but also what I think of as an "Aubert" trait of swirling shape-shifting where all the aromas and flavors continuously come and go and overlap within a continuous background of what I call the "petrol character." The finish is very long and ever-changing in traits. Always fun to read reviews of Aubert wines because everyone comes up with a veritable potpourri of flavors and aromas, all of which are applicable depending on the vineyard, the cellar age of the bottle, and your routine during drinking. It all makes these wines fun and very desirable (and polarizing to some). This will continue to evolve and drink well for several years, but OK to drink now. (943 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 12/23/2022 & rated 93 points: Much better than my prior note. Really needs more time in the btl and a good decant. It’s a real sleeper. Hold (1002 views)
Tasted by lvjohn on 10/11/2022 & rated 95 points: Another incredible Chardonnay from Aubert! So pure and refined, so delicious and beguiling. Our last bottle is partially gone now, but the experience will last for days. Heavenly nose and extraordinary tastes in the mouth. It's still very fresh and showing no signs of getting tired. (1238 views)
Tasted by Mark1npt on 9/6/2022 & rated 94 points: Missed leaving this review during our trip, Carol's BD dinner wine this year. Obtained a few months ago at auction, it's been sitting and chilling ever since. Pnp'd only because of traveling and not having an hour or two to decant. It was certainly a point better after an hour but I tried not to drink much of it since it was HER BD and she was loving it! The first '14 chard of theirs I've had. Seems to have shed some viscosity and baby fat compared to more recent vintages like '16 or '18. Still, that textbook creamy style, some vanilla and citrus. Nice weight, too though again not as weighty it seems as the '16 or '18. Some would probably say this is right in its peak zone while others probably prefer the more viscous or weighty feel and baby fat sweetness of the more recent vintages. Your choice, of course to drink 'em where you like 'em. Still some years ahead for this one, but I personally wouldn't hold them for too much longer for my palate. (2597 views)
Tasted by DrFerric on 4/2/2022 & rated 96 points: Still an amazing wine. Drinking well. Peat tart, hazelnut, wet stones . This is an exquisite chardonnay , as good as it gets from California (1615 views)
Tasted by kenthecpa on 1/3/2022: Another terrific bottle!
Drinking up the 2014’s. (1708 views)
Tasted by kenthecpa on 12/31/2021 & rated 96 points: This wine is singing tonight. (1491 views)
Tasted by Sonoma-W on 12/30/2021 & rated 92 points: Nice -- a bit muted on the finish (573 views)
Tasted by UofM on 12/27/2021 & rated 94 points: Exactly what I expected (1363 views)
Tasted by Cabernet4me2 on 11/28/2021 & rated 92 points: Definitely a great bottle of Chardonnay, better than most.. but seemed a little off compared to the recent ‘14 UV-SL & 14 CIX enjoyed over the past few months… which were phenomenal. Maybe an off bottle, have one more to try.

Great viscosity and mouth feel, just fruit seemed a bit muted. (1684 views)
Tasted by beezer6 on 10/16/2021 & rated 92 points: Little muted at first on the nose. Not as rich and oak driven as many Aubert.
More mineral focus. Really nice but a little short on the finish and lacking some of the typical Aubert depth and nuance in the nose. (1462 views)
Tasted by dcwino on 7/16/2021 & rated 94 points: Annual gathering with Chicago winos in Chicago (Smyth and The Loyalist - Chicago IL): Medium expressive nose displaying ripe white and yellow fruit, lychee, lemon curd, starfruit, honey, sweet spices and mineral. Good concentration, nicely layered concentration ripe white fruit, rich yet fluid, medium acidity and mineral, and a long ripe white fruit driven finish with lychee at the end. This shows less oak and better overall balance compare to Lauren. (2106 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 7/16/2021 flawed bottle: DC/Chicago Wine Dinner Extravaganza (Smyth and The Loyalist - Chicago IL): In Aubert 2014 horizontal. Fruit seemed tired, this came across as nearly past its peak, letting the warmth dominate. 86 points for me tonight. (2218 views)
Tasted by lvjohn on 6/2/2021 & rated 92 points: Less impressive than most Aubert Chardonnays. Has all the hallmarks of the winery, but maybe past its prime. (1401 views)
Tasted by Racer117 on 5/7/2021 & rated 93 points: Much more enjoyable than a bottle of '15 a few years ago. This still is full, fat, and loaded with alcohol but it has balance. Candied elements and tropical fruit abound. Thanks for opening this Joe! (1275 views)
Tasted by mreinhard74@gmail.com on 4/4/2021 & rated 93 points: Lush with a hint of oak. White flowers, Meyer lemons, peach and nectarine. Lovely. (1366 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 3/12/2021 & rated 92 points: While I love Aubert I am really not a fan of Sugar Shack. 15% alcohol is too much on the palate and it’s a fat & heavy on the palate. While it did open up in the glass, it’s just not my style of Aubert. I have several more btls and maybe my taste for this wine will change. (1366 views)
Tasted by rougeamore on 9/4/2020 & rated 93 points: On the nose, pineapple and peach. Creamy mouthfeel with lemon curd and melon notes. Complex and long finish. Excellent well made wine. (1765 views)
Tasted by dclaggett on 6/28/2020 & rated 96 points: 15.0% abv. Pale gold, slightest hint of green. Long legs in glass. On nose pineapple, peach, quince, butterscotch, fresh cut hay. Full in mouth, decent acidity, fuzzy tannins on front of teeth. Lemon curd, green apple, toasted brioche, caramelized coconut, very long finish. I would wait a few more years to drink next one, wine is putting on weight and I expect added complexity/layers. Very, very exciting and fine wine. (2096 views)
Tasted by dkwins on 4/18/2020 & rated 96 points: Beautiful golden color and classic Aubert. More citrus and lemon flavor than past notes, but sophisticated and as much of a treat as ever. (2040 views)
Tasted by Schiffy on 12/31/2019 & rated 95 points: What makes Aubert Chardonnay’s so special is the complexity, balance and intensity each of their single vineyard wines deliver. This Sugar Shack is no exception. Intense, complex flavors of butterscotch, melon and citrus deliver an amazing mouthfeel along with a citrus/lemon finish that lasts longer than any Chardonnay I’ve had in a long time. (2335 views)
Tasted by galewskj on 12/16/2019 & rated 94 points: Democratic Wine Dinner (My house): This is a harmonious and distinctly California chardonnay. There is ripe peach and pear, along with plenty of French oak (I don't think it is overoaked). I'm glad to see I have a bottle of this and look forward to trying it in 4 years or so. (2532 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
