Tasted by ALFlorio on 2/17/2024 & rated 91 points: Still drinking amazingly well (341 views)
 Tasted by jimmyrice14 on 12/16/2023 & rated 96 points: Simply awesome ! (474 views)
Tasted by DavilaDC on 4/9/2023 & rated 96 points: If only all merlot based wines were this interesting. It's showing unbelievably and in a perfect place right now.

Merlot, cab and sangiovese blend gives this a richness and nose of black fruit up front. But due to bottle age it's now a little reduced and giving off more herbs mixed with a slight hint of Port. Not flabby because of decent amount of remaining acidity.

45 minutes of air is all it needs. Make sure you filter as it throws a ton of sediment.

Lovely with the easygoing beefiness of prime rib as dry aged beef would overpower it. (1209 views)
Tasted by SWHighlander on 3/10/2023 & rated 93 points: Drinking well. Rich, complex earthy notes mixing with red and black fruit. Moderate acidity and some tannins. Enjoyable by itself as well as with NY strip. Enjoyed by everyone at my table with a mix of palates. Lovely. (1132 views)
Tasted by il_diavolo on 2/6/2023 & rated 91 points: Nicely mellowed, bordering on mature but still alive for sure , dark cherry, tobacco, licorice. Very smooth and pleasant, bit hard to place in terms of origin. (1178 views)
Tasted by Nerdy Earth Boy on 7/3/2022 & rated 90 points: Beautiful incredible floral upon opening. Limited sediment But took a long time to truly reach its potential. Maybe I’m just not a fan of the Merlot based blends. It seemed a bit tannic. In any case, the dark cherry and liquorice were the primary flavors and it was a delightful bottle for a birthday celebration. (1386 views)
Tasted by Mark van Delft on 6/24/2022 & rated 94 points: Superb aged Super Tuscan: cherry, tobacco leaf, fig, prune, black currant, tobacco, dark fruit, medium plus body, great long aftertaste. (1265 views)
Tasted by SteelerFan on 4/16/2022 & rated 94 points: The best Oreno I have had. This is in a terrific drinking window. Medium body, lively fruit remains and complex secondary notes. (983 views)
Tasted by wmccone54 on 12/18/2021: Drinking very well at seventeen years. Mature, complex and structured with a few years left ahead. Perfect with the roasted, stuffed pork loin and vegetables at a Christmas family gathering. Still 95 points. Excellent! (1488 views)
Tasted by Mark van Delft on 9/27/2021 & rated 95 points: Aged Super Tuscans, love them! Great depth, complexity & balance: Jammy, fig, blackberry, espresso, dried black fruit, medium plus body, powerful yet velvety long aftertaste. (1555 views)
Tasted by markcic on 7/2/2021 & rated 93 points: Well we met some people at our local Italian BYOB and I brought this bottle and 1997 Banfi. Except for me everyone thought that this was the best of the two bottles. The nose was red and black fruit. The palate was dark plum, dark cherry, some tobacco, cedar and a hint of spice. The finish was moderate to long. The last of my 04's. Well all good things must come to an end. (1883 views)
Tasted by Kavine on 5/29/2021 & rated 91 points: Between this and a P Longueville 2000, difficult to compare. Though would repeat and found it quite long, no acidity, or minerals...nice roundness and medium bodied enough. (1512 views)
Tasted by markcic on 1/14/2021 & rated 93 points: It may have slipped a little since the last bottle I had on Xmas Eve 2018 (what a different world that was back then) I opened and slow ox'd for an hour or so and then decanted. Deep rich fruit on the nose. The palate was dark plum, dark cherry, some tobacco, cedar and a hint of spice. The finish was smooth and long. Served alongside of a nice bowl of spinach ravioli. (2057 views)
Tasted by gothamfreerider on 1/9/2021 & rated 94 points: Flavors of berries, dark chocolate espresso, and oak. A tinge of alcohol interferes a little at opening, but improves with time. Wonderful long velvety length... overall, excellent. Easily mistaken for right bank. I like this is much better than 2006, which I hope opens up more with time . (1641 views)
Tasted by atamoros on 11/22/2020: Excellent! Like the very best Bordeaux. At its peak (1624 views)
Tasted by Outplaying on 8/30/2020: This never grabbed my attention. Alcohol was poking through a little at first. A little later it seemed better balanced. (1916 views)
Tasted by vpoms on 5/3/2020 & rated 89 points: Deep garnet. Clean nose of pronounced intensity with only secondary and tertiary aromas: earth, leather, cured meat, cooked fruits, minerals and cedar. Fully developed wine. Palate: dry, medium acidity, medium alcohol, medium tannins, full body. Medium flavor intensity of mushrooms, cooked black fruit, leather. Finish is medium minus. Good wine, just not my type. Drink now. I would not age any further. (2140 views)
Tasted by maxima on 3/2/2020 & rated 92 points: Très bon, toujours constante cette cuvée.
Fragrant et complexe, c'est long et persistant.
Excellent. (2813 views)
Tasted by Rschot on 2/14/2020 & rated 94 points: Valentines bottle. Love passes through the stomach, is a Dutch saying and it applies to this wine too!

Had to double decant and double filter as there was a lot of fine sediment. The wine remained cloudy, but the tasting was not effected. Very dark color. Bold and full bodied.

Blackcurrent, herbal notes of thyme, rosemary and ginger. Roses, how applicable today. Chocolate. Velvety tannins. Very enjoyable. And so good with filet mignon!

Possibly at its peak right now. (2028 views)
Tasted by mike410 on 2/12/2020 & rated 92 points: Very nice and drinking very well at the moment. No bricking whatsoever. Well balanced and nice red and black berries on the palette. (1886 views)
Longue finale. Délicieux et boire sans tarder. (1798 views)
Tasted by tymmiol on 1/5/2020 & rated 95 points: Sumptuous aromas of cassis, chocolate and green pepper. Deep but not in your face kind of overwhelming. Just perfect. Long finish on the palate.
Despite its age of 16 years, it’s offering plenty of acidity and well balanced tannins. I suppose it has 2-4 years to go before it hits its peak. Could go another 8years. Went well with most of the food on our anniversary dinner menu, even smoke salmon and lobster bisque. Wife loved it! (1568 views)
Tasted by winelover1808 on 1/1/2020 & rated 90 points: I liked but didn’t love this. The nose and perfume speak to power which it has. Dark red color. No signs of bricking. Mouthful is red and dark fruit, anise/black licorice notes, strong acidity, some funk. Tannins are very strong and weren’t that smooth imho. 92/93 when I had this after a bite of my rib eye. But without the steak, it was less cohesive and smooth than I expected and probably rates a 88/89 to me on its own so blended score of 90. (1485 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 12/25/2019 & rated 92 points: had alongside the 2005 100% Sangiovese Soldera Riserva, not a fair fight but his was as correct as can be, beautiful Sangiovese with the add'n of (I think) some cab and/or Syrah... but for being beside a legend of a wine this would have taken the WotN award... really nice -- couldn't help being curious what it would have tasted like if they had simply bottled the Sangiovese by itself, a real winner of a wine either way, and great QPR at $70 (I bet they are a lot more expensive today?!?) (1392 views)
Tasted by SadEdjo on 11/30/2019 & rated 92 points: Good cork. Dark colour with a hint of bricking on the edge. Spicy, dark fruit nose & entry. Obvious oak treatment now tamed and well-integrated. Polished, long finish (1561 views)

Tenuta Sette Ponti

Producer website

U.S. Importer (Addt'l Info)

Tenuta Sette Ponti lies in the heart of the Chianti area, not far away from Arezzo. The oldest vines were planted in 1935 by Duke Amadeo d’Aosto vice-king of Ethiopia, in remembrance of a victory. It has been the property of different members of the Italian royal family until the end of the 1950s, when architect Alberto Moretti bought it from Princesses Margherita and Maria Cristina di Savoia d’Aosta, daughters of Vittorio Emanuele III, king of Italy from 1900 to 1946. The Moretti family started working at the estate as soon as the end of autumn 1957. In 1996, Antonio Fioravante Moretti, Alberto’s son, took over. He was the leader of a group of companies in the sector of luxury and fashion, but decided to follow his passion. He decided to bottle the wine directly at the estate. His 1998 Crognolo and his 1999 Oreno have both become symbols of the oenological vocation of Tuscany. The winemaker is Carlo Ferrini, one of the best in Italy, who also works for other prestigious Tuscan estates such as Fattoria di Petrolo, Talenti and Brancaia. The vineyards comprise 150 acres. The estate, like many Tuscan estates, is multi-dimensional. The huge 750-acre property incorporates a stud farm for race horses, breeding of native Tuscan Chiana cattle, a preserve for a rare breed of pig, and fields of sun flowers and maze.

The Sette Ponti estate lies fifteen miles northwest of the city of Arezzo in the heart of the Chianti zone. The name Sette Ponti translates as "seven bridges" and refers to the seven bridges crossing the Arno River on the road from Arezzo to Florence.
Curiously, in a region where 200-year-old wineries are commonplace, Sette Ponti didn't even make wine until 1997, when owner, Dr. Antonio Moretti, asked his good friend Piero Antinori if he thought the estate could produce great wines. Antinori's response, loosely translated, was "Ya, sure, ya betcha!"

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.
