Community Tasting Notes (average 89.7 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 18 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by wtianseter on 7/11/2021 & rated 89 points: This bottle of wine did not make the cut of 90 points. Enjoyable and tasty like a nice Chianti should be. Sangiovese comes through but does not quite shine brightly. Don't know if its just this bottle or the wine is losing ground at 8 years. By my estimate of ageability on the other bottles I suspect a bottle issue. (844 views)
Tasted by wtianseter on 3/18/2021: I have had several bottles and they have been rather variable. Some have not lived up to the previous rating and the last one seemed high in acid and balance was off throughout. 85-91 depending on the bottle. (787 views)
Tasted by gmbdds on 4/28/2020 & rated 88 points: Notes of tobacco, plum and earth. Starts off dull and disjointed. Improves with some time and some red sauce, becoming more balanced and integrated. This is not a great Chianti Classico, but it rallies into something enjoyable and food friendly. (1254 views)
Tasted by wtianseter on 4/20/2020 flawed bottle: Corked. Such a disappointment! tasted over several days and the TCA never diminished. Down the drain! :^( (1239 views)
Tasted by Mattshank on 3/29/2020 & rated 91 points: This was a particularly good bottle with good fruit composition and subtle minerality without any of the rustic aspects of some of the past bottles. 91+ points. (1376 views)
Tasted by Swaggering Beaunie on 2/28/2020 & rated 86 points: Still pretty good, but the acidity is fading, so it's on the downslope side of the curve. Drink up if you have it. (937 views)
Tasted by repoper on 12/17/2019 & rated 91 points: POP one a few night ago. A first it was non descript na dvery un interesting, but as the evening went on the wine really opened up and shines. Beautiful nose of cherries, leather, dust and hay. In the mouth it got better and better but still a young wine. Next bottle I will open a few hours before. Good value. (976 views)
Tasted by tunaguy on 11/23/2019 & rated 90 points: darker cherries, herbs, tomato leaves, and woody notes. Perfect for pasta with red sauce (535 views)
Tasted by Mattshank on 11/20/2019: Questionable bottle. Judgement reserved so no score. (645 views)
Tasted by repoper on 10/30/2019: Always reliable. Typical chianti. Nice color. Not too deep and the nose screams tuscany. Great but on WTSO. (757 views)
Tasted by iDrum4Wine on 5/14/2019 & rated 92 points: I love this wine. Everything a Chianti Classico should be. Purple hue that opens with potpourri and tomato leaf aromas. Roasted tomato, black cherry and leather mingle on the palate with a lingering note of cured meat and tobacco on the finish. Great balance of acidity to fruit with a medium dense body. (822 views)
Tasted by Mattshank on 5/11/2019 flawed bottle: Mildly corked. Bummer. (720 views)
Tasted by Mattshank on 5/11/2019 & rated 91 points: This bottle is much more representative and akin to the tasting notes on 4/11/19. (757 views)
Tasted by Mattshank on 4/11/2019 & rated 91 points: 1 1/2 hour slow ox. Nose: Complex aromas of soil minerals and tar. Over time the tar aspects minimized and aromas of cinnamon and cherry took center stage. Palate: Very good acidity with soft tannins and cherries. While not the most complex wine this is quite well made with no flaws and high finesse levels. 91 points largely due to the expressive aromas. (760 views)
Tasted by wtianseter on 10/11/2018 & rated 91 points: Big and complex fruit on the front. It stayed fruity throughout the taste. Nice smooth with good acid and a still tight tannin. It does need more time and it will show even better. Cherry, cigar, strawberry predominate. (1097 views)
Tasted by MoreRhone on 10/23/2017 & rated 88 points: Tasted on 10/23/17. The nose does not match the fruit. Bright fruit that fads into medium tannin finish. This wine needs more time in the bottle. Has good potential. (1383 views)

Sangiovese Blend

Sangiovese blend is used in CellarTracker for Italian wines to represent wines predominantly made of Sangiovese and blended with traditional Italian grapes. It is different than SuperTuscan which is a blend of Sangiovese with non-traditional (eg Bordeaux) varieties, often in closer to equal portions. For example, Chianti is at least 80% Sangiovese and will always be listed Sangiovese blend.
