Tasted by toddvh on 6/16/2019 & rated 89 points: Drinking nicely! Still could go a few more years. Nice secondary/age characteristics, but enough fruit to continue to age. (1093 views)
Tasted by RoccoSydney on 2/18/2018 & rated 87 points: Finishing up. Little bit of fruit left, mostly black cherries, dried fruit, raisins, etc. However, very nice finish. (1440 views)
Tasted by Colima74 on 11/1/2017 & rated 93 points: Wow! Violets and tannins that carry the floral notes to the finish. Great grip. Drinking beautifully right now. (1696 views)
Tasted by JCSV on 12/2/2016 & rated 91 points: Opened Nov 2016 needed an hour to open up. 87 within the first hour low 90s after opened up when the finish developed more. Definitely needs decanting (1618 views)
Tasted by Sheldog on 2/6/2016 & rated 92 points: This Merlot again reminds me of what a great vintage 2007 was. The evidence of pronounced fruit still persists although the graceful aging of this wine has put the blackberry and black cherry into the background where it is now harmonized with notes of cassis, cigar box, cedar with the finish yielding a smoothness of a fine piece of chocolate.

This wine is drinking perfectly right now and there ant not a lot of residual tannins but it should continue on for a few more years yet. Good job on this, Miner! (1970 views)
Tasted by shellylowen on 12/14/2014 & rated 91 points: Soft, plum, blueberry, sweet tannins, long finish (1814 views)
Tasted by JVSMagic on 9/24/2014: Sweet tannins plums and hints of chocolate and licorice. Could age a little longer. (1722 views)
Tasted by joedv8s on 3/31/2014 & rated 91 points: we loved this wine much more than CT average 89

After about 1 hour open, rich, full flavor and balanced. Hold it mid palate for more flavor surprises. Delicious! (2268 views)
Tasted by rmgambrel on 1/22/2014 & rated 91 points: Consistent with prior bottles, nice fruit, good backbone, stood up to steak very well. Tannins were present but not unruly. (2055 views)
Tasted by shellylowen on 9/27/2013 & rated 90 points: Very good. (2170 views)
Tasted by Hodad on 10/6/2012 & rated 91 points: Well balanced. Black cherry and berry fruits. Nice finish. Pairs well with bold flavored meat dishes. (2634 views)
Tasted by Mugwump on 9/5/2012 & rated 91 points: Excellent dark fruit with well integrated soft tannins and herbal notes. Much more complex than your garden variety Merlot. highly recommended (2639 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 5/8/2012: This does have 5% malbec and cabernet franc. So 10% total. Structured like a Cabernet. Drinks well. (2545 views)
Tasted by Grape Stuff on 4/1/2012 & rated 90 points: 75 minute decant. Nice fruit forward profile of raspberry, plum, and dark cherry but balanced and not over the top. Cedar notes denote the new oak this wine likely got, but it balances well with the dark fruit, roasted plum, and mulling spice mid-palate. Nice finish of refined plum again with medium length and completely integrated, sweet tannins. Well done. Excellent wine, which will likely continue to be drinking well for at least five more years. 88-90. (2439 views)
Tasted by krhaugh on 3/25/2012 & rated 94 points: I was really surprised by this 2007 Miner Stagecoach Merlot. Decanted about 1 1/2 hours and this was ready to go. Huge amounts of red fruit with a nice touch of spice. I usually feel that Merlot is a boring wine but this one took off and didn't disappoint throughout the evening. I'm sorry this is the last bottle I had because this was a really good wine. (2180 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 7/31/2011 & rated 87 points: Joseph George 71st Anniversary Tasting (Montalvo Arts Center, Saratoga, California): Dark ruby color; lifted, tart plum, red berry nose; tart red berry, red plum palate with near medium acidity; medium finish (2380 views)
Tasted by sjdoc on 6/1/2011 & rated 92 points: a very bold merlot (2300 views)
Tasted by jonwill on 7/17/2010 & rated 91 points: Seems like I was drinking a different wine than the previous post. Ripe fruit and sweet and sour cherry and blackberries abound with a subtle oak inspired finish. (2453 views)
Tasted by Colima74 on 7/7/2010 & rated 86 points: Really big and tannic on opening. Not much fruit showing through. Rough edged. Smoothed out some over the evening, but this either needs some time or may never come together like it should. (2431 views)

Merlot

Merlot is a dark blue–colored wine grape variety, that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines. The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of merle, the French name for the blackbird, probably a reference to the color of the grape. Its softness and "fleshiness", combined with its earlier ripening, makes Merlot a popular grape for blending with the sterner, later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon, which tends to be higher in tannin.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
