Tasted by EdwardsCellar on 1/20/2024 & rated 90 points: pepper and blackberry notes. more black fruits and licorice. wonderful CDR, especially for the price. (213 views)
Tasted by Robwild on 7/9/2022 & rated 90 points: Deep Ruby Color. Full Bodied. Good structure with Oak, leather and tobacco with dark fruits. (709 views)
Tasted by Tige on 4/8/2021 & rated 87 points: Rouge opaque.
Notes balsamiques et d'amandes au nez.
Assez court, tanins moy, acidité moy-, fruits noirs cuits en bouche.
Plutôt moyen en ce moment, mais un peu meilleur avec 1h30 de carafe. (1506 views)
Tasted by TTotal on 8/15/2020 & rated 90 points: Rich red and black fruit with a nice herbal nose. Quite weighty, high alcohol and agree with the porty, slightly stewed quality in other notes. But this hangs together very well. Not your ordinary CDR . (1789 views)
Tasted by carstenf on 6/23/2020 & rated 86 points: Cooked fruit , almost port-like. I am not a CdR fan right now and perhaps thats why...
I miss the things that CdR sometimes can do. I have 3 bott from ‘16 , maybe a nother story. (1981 views)
Tasted by colorflavorlocking on 12/27/2019 & rated 60 points: Stewed fruit and nail polish remover on nose, rotten fruit on palate. Remarkably thin and sweet. Alcoholic kick. The color of red NyQuil. Consistent with other bottles from this producer. Truly revolting. (2400 views)
Tasted by downpantera on 10/10/2019 & rated 90 points: Deep red fruit with pomegranate, dried cranberry, graphite, stone, cedar and notes of coffee grounds. (2204 views)
Tasted by Rob-Rah on 7/23/2019 & rated 89 points: Super CdR. Smoky and gently fruited with dark fruits, savoury. BBQ wine with a twist of sophistication. Good, and good value. :) (1897 views)
Tasted by SimonHea on 7/21/2019 & rated 89 points: A really nice surprise and very different from most other Cotes du Rhone I’ve enjoyed.
A negocient wine from a legendary Gigondas house. Predominantly Syrah with Grenache, Carignan, Mourvèdre and Clairette co-vinified. Matured in conical wooden vats and concrete tanks.
Medium Ruby with Medium (+) intensity and aromas and flavours of Black Plum, stewed black cherries, roast strawberries, violet, thyme, black olive and black pepper. The wine is meaty (raw bacon), gamey and smoky with leather, tobacco and liquorice.
Dry, medium (+) acidity, medium (+), soft ripe tannins, high alcohol but very well integrated, medium body, medium (+) intensity and finish.
Very good almost outstanding wine, just needs a little more depth, body and a longer finish. (1505 views)
Tasted by Zoltán Németi on 2/1/2019 & rated 91 points: A lineup of wines from the South of France in Carpe Diem wine bar (Budapest): The house style is evident. Tastes like their estate Gigondas, but also very Syrah-ish. Extraordinary depth for a plain Cotes du Rhone. Ripe and opulent, with bacon and baked black currant notes. A bit of tomato scented specialty coffee and blood, and some herb notes. Full on the palate, really fills the mouth. So rich and decadent, but then quite tannic on the finish. A bit rough at this stage, but still amazing. Not for the faint-hearted. (2038 views)
Tasted by tak4 on 10/2/2018 & rated 90 points: First time among the round stones of CdP and Gigondas (Chateauneuf-du-pape, Gigondas): Dark crimson. Nice fruit on nose - red fruit, pepper, a touch of greenness.
Good acid, fruit, pepper.
Best balanced Cotes du Rhone I’ve had (2329 views)
Tasted by Rob-Rah on 6/5/2018 & rated 88 points: Dark purpley colour. This is coming across as a bit too ambitious for its material. Tarry and short, where I would want more freshness and lingering fruit. Not keen on it on this showing. 88+ (2311 views)
Tasted by fotomill on 5/29/2018 & rated 89 points: Blend of 5 grapes, basically GSM. Beautiful dense ruby, medium plus bodied. Fragrant nose of perfumy blueberries and rose petals, and some Szechuan pepper, dark berries like cherry, plum, blueberry. Quite tannic and not well integrated yet, too young to be opened. It has enough potential, so recommend to open 2 years later. This wine, though very young, gets oxidized quickly, so enjoy on the day after 15 min. breathing. (2138 views)
Tasted by Matt Scott on 5/4/2018 & rated 91 points: Violets, red currant, bacon fat and gravel. A sensuous palate, with microfiber tannins, depth and a medium-long finish. Red and dark fruit flavors, with a little garrigue. Drink now - 2027. (2488 views)
Tasted by AMC Eagle on 4/25/2018 & rated 90 points: Vinturied into decanter and let sit for 45 minutes. Medium ruby-garrnet in appearance. Has a nose of spicy red berries with some black peppers and plums. On the palate, there are smoky red licorice and cherries accompanied by some semi-tight tannins. Medium bodied with a short-medium finish. Give this a couple more years to let it soften out a bit. (2217 views)
Tasted by wineandski on 4/12/2018 & rated 89 points: Took about an hour to open up, but was well worth the time (1694 views)
Tasted by Rob-Rah on 3/22/2018 & rated 89 points: Good top CdR. Nothing amazing however beyond that 88-89 (1163 views)
Tasted by Curton on 3/21/2018 & rated 90 points: Still young and fleshy but approachable. Cherries, meat, pepper and spice. Full bodied and balanced wine. Very enjoyable and will appeal to most of us. (1180 views)
Tasted by Doc90 on 3/13/2018 & rated 91 points: Full and fresh, light tannins, purple energy with smoky pepper. A wet spring day vibe. Notes of licorice tea and wild blueberry. Outstanding Cotes du Rhone. (1134 views)
Tasted by anstruletz on 1/22/2018: Inky with dark fruits emerging on the nose with lovely garrigue, pencil slate, and spice. This opened up over 3 days. Firm tannins indicate a few years would do this wine well. As good of a CDR as you're going to find, and a marked step up from St. Cosme's introductory offering. (1202 views)
Tasted by bhouk on 12/9/2017: Full of leather and black pepper, leaving more angularity than I had hoped for. Time may tame that. Cherry and cherry pit dart in too, but the distinct bitterness in the finish dominates the overall impression. (1491 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 9/27/2017: A touch reductive or just Syrah on the nose. Clove and spice and black pepper. (2053 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 8/24/2017: Smells smokey, lots of structure, direct on the palate. (1970 views)
Tasted by Rezy13 on 8/19/2017: Ok, now we're talking, this is blowing black pepper, wild berry, plum, very Syrah-like in its character, fruity, young, fresh, great drinkability; delicious. (1712 views)
Tasted by Rob-Rah on 5/28/2017 & rated 90 points: A bit too young to be drinking these but anyway..... pours a bright colour and the scents are currently a bit red - needs a year or two to fill out and round out a bit in bottle. As usual, a great top-quality Cotes du Rhone, blowing most other CdRs out of the water. 90+ (1655 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.
