Continues to get better and better, very good Barbera with funk, power and character. (439 views) | | Tasted by JohanPe on 2/22/2020 & rated 89 points: No significant development since last bottle a year ago. Drinks very good right now, early maturity with some funk and polished acidity. (523 views) | | Tasted by JohanPe on 11/30/2018 & rated 88 points: Slowly continues its journey towards maturity, nice and steady. Still a powerhouse but compared to when released the acidity is more in check and the overall impression more balanced. Dense and full flavored, equally good day two and three. (730 views) | | Tasted by JohanPe on 9/17/2018 & rated 89 points: Finally settled down and become more balanced and approachable. Cherry core, gravel road and dried herbs. Precise and straightforward. Hard to resist the charm of this variety when it's handled like this. (761 views) | | Tasted by JohanPe on 12/8/2017 & rated 89 points: Same impression as last bottle, super energetic and powerful. (1075 views) | | Tasted by JohanPe on 10/23/2017 & rated 89 points: Cherries, herbs, earth, ink, violets, and gravel. Very powerful built Barbera with lots of structure. Acidity level is off the charts, almost feels spritzy on the palate. Drinks well with food but too young on its own imo. Huge potential, will be interesting to follow the coming years. (832 views) | | Tasted by Finare Vinare on 2/5/2017 & rated 89 points: A bit restrained at first, but highly typical aromatics of pen ink, violets, earth, black cherries and lingonberries. Piercing acidity, somewhat chewable extract, and 14% alcohol makes for a balance made for food. Improves with an hour or two of air. Tonight it went well with polpette in a tomato-based ossobuco sauce. We'll try and wait until summer for the next bottle. (1513 views) |
| Cascina 'Tavijn Producer WebsiteBarbera Varietal character (Appellation America) Varietal character (Wikipedia German) Varietal character (Wikipedia English) Barbera is a red wine variety, originally from Italy, which is best known as the second-most important Piedmontese variety after Nebbiolo. The wines made of this grape are mainly the everyday drinking wines of the region. The main appellations producing Barbera are Asti and Alba.
Barbera - The most widely grown red wine grape of Piedmont and Southern Lombardy, most famously around the towns of Asti and Alba, and Pavia. The wines of Barbera were once simply "what you drank while waiting for the Barolo to be ready." With a new generation of wine makers, this is no longer the case. The wines are now meticulously vinified, aged Barbera gets the name "Barbera Superiore" (Superior Barbera), sometimes aged in French barrique becoming "Barbera Barricato", and intended for the international market. The wine has bright cherry fruit, a very dark color, and a food-friendly acidity.Italy Italian Wines (ItalianMade.com, The Italian Trade Commission) | Italian Wine Guide on the WineDoctorPiedmont Vignaioli Piemontesi (Italian only) On weinlagen-infoAsti Consorzio per la Tutela dell'Asti |
