Tasted by burgburgburg on 6/24/2023 & rated 90 points: PnP and served in big burgundy glasses. Intense, heavy and rich Lafon-like bouquet. Mineral over acidity or fruits. Good at 60 euro but nothing more. (469 views)
Tasted by NYC_Maenad on 5/6/2023: Getting this wine to us was an epic saga, so a lot was riding on its showing. Served in Grassl Cru glasses after a 30 minute decant, starting a bit on the cold side and allowed to warm in the glass over about 2 hours. Beautiful wine. Aromatically restrained at first, but we were outside on the deck, which is never good for aromas. After coming inside, the nose was definitely more expressive. Exceptional balance, with bright lively acidity, and only a modest amount of framing oak in keeping with a richness to the mouthfeel. Ripe, but not overdone. I expected more of a lusciousness, and was surprised by how chiseled it turned out to be. I should have decanted longer, as it was just starting to open up at the end, even last sips were the best, even though it was a bit too warm then. I will wait a couple of years before opening another. It is delicious now for sure, but only touching a fraction of what I think it has. (712 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 2/3/2023 & rated 93 points: Gorgeously bright, honeyed apple and peach with a hint of toast. Rich, bountiful round fruit is so juicy. Nice matchstick and mineral accents throughout. At peak. (960 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 10/27/2022 & rated 93 points: My previous bottle opened last year was tired, but tonight's was brilliant. Fresh and dried flowers with lemon and apple. Richly intense without anything seemingly ripe. Really great right now, with an incredibly ripe finish. (1756 views)
Tasted by acyso on 2/24/2022 & rated 93 points: White Burgundy study (2008 and 2014) (Chicago, IL): I liked this far more than the Maltroie alongside; this is far more chiseled and minerally, with a bright vein of acidity that leads into a chewy mineral finish. I'm always a big fan of that sort of thing in white wines; this bottle is no exception. This is more linear and more precise than the Maltroie, and has a lot more lift too. Despite this being higher up in the Niellon hierarchy, I found this more readily enjoyable today than the Maltroie. (1750 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 2/24/2022 & rated 93 points: 14 Niellon flight. A delightful 1er with plenty of rich orchard fruit and lots spice, mineral and citrus nuances. A top end 1er that is drinking at peak. (1566 views)
Tasted by theusualsuspect on 1/16/2022 & rated 93 points: The Niellon wines went off the boil in the mid 90's if not before, and that continued into the first decade of this century. You held a Niellon wine for 5-6 years at your peril.
Starting maybe around 2010 they started to show a more ambitious structure offering a bit more longevity. This wine since release has never seen a temp above 47 degrees., as was true of the Niellon wines I owned going back to 1990. The vintage certainly plays a part in this, but this wine is barely in mid life with years ahead. This wine will easily outlive any Niellon wine I've ever had. (1139 views)
Tasted by Taffi on 9/26/2021 & rated 92 points: Another perfect bottle and a really great wine. Not easy to understand, because before this two bottles Vergers from the same producer and the same vintage was opened with faults (1180 views)
Tasted by Taffi on 9/22/2021 & rated 92 points: Another perfect bottle. Drink good now, but will be even better the next years.
Those that have found several premox of these has been unlucky. My recent bottles has had absolutely NO sign of being a premox or adwanced. (1101 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 8/25/2021 flawed bottle: Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Tasting #1 (Northside / Montrachet-adjacent) (House of Nanda - Chicago IL): Shocked and very disappointed that this was so advanced, even if drinkable.. (1724 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 8/25/2021 flawed bottle: Chassange - Northside: Disappointingly prematurely oxidized. (1243 views)
Tasted by brooklynguy on 6/8/2020: Excellent, faith-restoring wine. Open over the course of an hour, has a lot of upside to aging, it would seem. VERY mineral, with limestone inflected, flinty, mineral-reduction infused, pure fresh, and just lovely aromas. Whatever fruit there is here is a vehicle for expressing terroir. Expansive, focused, a bit creamy, detailed, powerful, but with a light touch, balanced and with great acidity, this is delicious and memorable wine. (2197 views)
Tasted by csimm on 3/12/2020 & rated 94 points: Bottle #2. WAY better than the bottle I had yesterday that was a total flaccid dud. Clearly bottle variation going on here. This bottle was fresh and vibrant, with lemon juice, lemon zest, lemon verbena, travertine, quince, and a tinge of tropical fruit making up the core. A clean push of yellow citrus makes for a medium bodied, balanced delivery.

This is entering into a nice drinking window now (depending on if you get a ‘good’ bottle or not I suppose). 93-94+ points. Drink now and over the next few years. (3651 views)
Tasted by csimm on 3/11/2020: Flat and pretty lifeless in terms of drive. A “pfud” execution. There are flavor elements that seem pure, but there just wasn’t much exuberance or verve to push the fruit to the front. Drinkable, but no real personality. Something was definitely off. Two more bottles. Hope they aren’t party-poopers too. Bummer. (3622 views)
Tasted by theusualsuspect on 3/4/2020 & rated 93 points: Another bottle. Not at all so far along. Let the crap shot begin. These wines by the way were acquired shortly after release, and have been stored since in a 47 degree cellar. (1642 views)
Tasted by theusualsuspect on 3/3/2020 & rated 93 points: I thought this the best of Niellon's 2014 premier crus. It is in a wonderful place right now, but it won't be there much longer. More so than many other white burgundy producers, Niellon's wines don't age well. This one will be DOA in two years or less. (1626 views)
Tasted by DCornutt on 4/13/2019: This is a stunning bottle of wine. Hopefully, I can keep my hands off of a few. Amazing nose and balance of fruit/acid. The finish is very special. A + (1870 views)
Tasted by DCornutt on 3/15/2019: This is an extraordinary wine. It is very young in many ways. The palate is big and shows a lot of structure. However, the nose is amazing. This is white burgundy to me! Beautiful
golden fruit. Mineral. Powerful yet elegant. It is hard to put it into words. These 2014 Niellon's have a special element to them. That extra gear that you associate with the best white burgundies.
Extraordinary! (1818 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 2/26/2019 & rated 93 points: Terlato Great Burgundy Producer Dinner (Tangley Oaks - Lake Bluff IL): Spring flowers with both apple and lemon and faint savory spice. Very good density and even better length, finishing with intense minerality. The style of white Burgundy that thrills me. (2516 views)
Tasted by theusualsuspect on 11/16/2018 & rated 93 points: I think this the best of Niellon's 2014 premier crus, and I think this the domaine's best vintage in many years. The wine has fine concentration, solid length, and remarkable purity. A really terrific expression of what very much sets white burgundy apart. I seldom go beyond the essence of a wine looking for flavor nuances, but in this case, if it is useful, pears and nougat with still a bit of citrus. Still plenty of acid creeping in at the finish. (1767 views)
Tasted by jmottern on 4/24/2018 & rated 91 points: Medium body wine with a medley of apple and pear fruit. a nice mineral finish. A very sophisticated wine that will age nicely. (2020 views)
Tasted by rc@ughey on 2/25/2018 & rated 93 points: Awesome again. Concentrated, coiled, and pure, this is killer White Burg for the money. Pronounced lemon cream fades into deeper notes, grated ginger, and a distinct mineral essence. A tad oaky but the fruit carries it well. A real winner. (2132 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 6/18/2017 & rated 91 points: Floral start with lemon and lemon peel start-to-finish. Finishes with a lot of acidity and minerality, but also a faint hint of pineapple and sweet spice. I'd expect this to be much better in another couple of years, 2019 forward. (2699 views)
Tasted by rc@ughey on 1/14/2017 & rated 93 points: Awesome. Tight out of the gate but opens up with a couple hours of air. Cool-toned nose of citrus zest leads to a concentrated palate of citrus fruit and chalky minerals. This is bright and bold and, with air, admirably deep. A touch of oak and a touch of butter but nothing obtrusive. Very impressive for the level and the price. (2753 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
