Tasted by HeavyPourWine on 3/20/2024 & rated 93 points: Arrow & Branch winemaker dinner at Murphy's (Atlanta, GA): A&B winemaker dinner @ Murphy's in Atlanta. From Magnum. PNP. Paired with Fazzolerri pasta (lamb). Drinking very well. This is A&B's blend that's inspired by Cheval Blanc. My second favorite wine of the night. I picked some of this up for my cellar.  Tasted by csimm on 11/8/2022: I say with a little air, this is good to go. Drink with a couple hours in the decanter, or hold with confidence for 5++ years. Black fruited. Polished on the front end, with an asphalt-chocolate-blackberry thing going on that turns into a nice lava rock bite (in a good way) on the tail. My kind of A&B. (2827 views)
Tasted by AGELVIS on 5/27/2022 & rated 95 points: Two hour decant. Deep dark ruby color. Dark raspberry purée, blackberry, blueberry pancakes, butterscotch brittle, bay leaf-infused chocolate cake, and oregano on the complex nose. Smooth, tongue drying palate. Firm, full tannins on the longish finish. 50% CF, 24% CS, 24% Merlot, and 2% PV.

The nose is not as “sweet” as it sounds. This is a serious, complex blend. Interesting balance of fruit, baking spice, and modestly herbal notes. (1224 views)
Tasted by greg@newsomehh.com on 2/3/2022 & rated 93 points: Drank with Splendido burger with the GO Ski guys (677 views)
Tasted by Geaux Tigers on 9/14/2021 & rated 95 points: In light of the 2018 release decided to pop a 2016. Three hour decant and this was ready to go. Somewhat translucent, medium bodied but the palate packed a bigger punch than the body would indicate. Oak is managed well, a few drying tannins on a medium finish, plenty of acid for this to age well.

On the nose, floral perfume, smoked meats, green bay leaf, coffee, exotic spice. Hints of red fruit and an overall earthy profile on the nose as well. The nose reminded me of Kobalt cabs from years gone by.

On the palate, more spice, black fruits, black raspberry, dried cherries, seemingly restrained yet refreshing on the finish. Enough fruit for Napa lovers, not enough restraint for true Bordeaux lovers. Drank best at cellar temperature as it warmed the palate became muted and notes of purple fruits and violets appeared.

At three hours consistent notes ... drinking nicely

95 points with room to run up to 97 — can’t wait to try this again with 10 years under its belt (1478 views)
Tasted by csimm on 2/25/2021 & rated 96 points: An exquisite bottle of wine. Dark fruits and spicebox lead the charge, with unsmoked tobacco, rose water, and some earth following suit. The balance here is undeniable and the overall sense of sophistication really elevates this wine beyond “just another Napa cab.” This picked up the slightest bit of heat after extended air and a slow rise in room temperature. In terms of service, I would recommend keeping it at a cool cellar temperature throughout consumption. Drinking well now and will evolve nicely over the next decade. 96+ points. Try again in a few years. (3290 views)
Tasted by Cristal2000 on 8/1/2020 & rated 96 points: Arrow and Branch Tasting 2016-2018 Vintages: Splitting hairs on whether this wine or the 2018 edition is better. I've bought and drank a lot of this wine, because I absolutely love it. At times it has been shut down a bit, and then other times it is singing. So it can be a bit hard to read. This time it was firing on all cylinders and reflects my prior note of 9/14/19. Gorgeous, fresh, seamless and super refined, it's very floral and elegant. It does not lack for power, but it does so with amazing finesse. It's a wine you can drink everyday and not get tired of it. Super balanced and made to last. (2412 views)
Tasted by Raguilar on 5/23/2020 & rated 96 points: Introduced to me by the staff at ACME Fine Wines in Napa, which have been a godsend during this quarantine. This wine is drinking beautifully right now. It is a “right bank” Bordeaux blend dominated by Cab Franc and blended with Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. On the palate, it is a delicious combination of dark fruit, earth, chocolate and some spice. Exquisitely balanced with a long finish and silky mouthfeel. A more restrained style of Napa Bordeaux blend as compared to the “riper” style favored by other wineries. Need to purchase additional bottles. (835 views)
Tasted by KenK on 5/17/2020 & rated 91 points: Quite primary and fruit forward with a nice smooth silky texture. Cab franc leafy herbal notes dominate with a red fruited light plum flavors. Nice and well made, yet a bit too fruity perhaps and seemingly less serious getting similar accolades. (1032 views)
Tasted by Niagara on 3/7/2020: Though a decent wine, IMO tastes nothing like a Right Bank Bdx. (1560 views)
Tasted by greg@newsomehh.com on 1/22/2020 & rated 94 points: Bold, dark PN< beautiful from the open (840 views)
Tasted by dmwilsondvm on 12/6/2019 & rated 98 points: Arrow and Branch (Brasswood, St. Helena): This is a very unique and special wine. Do not miss this one, especially if you are a fan of Napa right bank styled wines. Blend of Estate fruit, with Lewelling, Stagecoach, and Crane. 50% Cabernet Franc, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, & 2% Petit Verdot. Nose fills the glass....blueberry jam and violet aromas. The Cab Franc runs primary here, and it's wonderful. Very much blue fruit, slight pepper, a touch of cigar. Beautifully integrated. Wow, and wow. (1057 views)
Tasted by msuwine on 11/3/2019 & rated 94 points: This rich and prickly Right Bank Blend needs another few years to unfold and integrate, but it could be quite impressive when it does. At the moment, it's a bit too Cab Franc driven for me, with a peppery and earthy drive that is pronounced in the early going. Still, it's a unique wine at a defensible price point - something worth appreciating in Napa reds.

Dark cherry in color; medium in body; enticing nose of boysenberry, leather, fresh herbs, and peppercorn. Tastes of sour cherry, espresso, grilled ribeye, and gravel, with a spicy, grainy, and prickly finish that didn't soften that much in the four hours I followed the wine. Just as gravely, a bit more juicy on second day. Blend of 50% Cabernet Franc, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot. 14.8% alcohol. 94 for now, with upside in 2021 or later. (2235 views)
Tasted by csimm on 9/15/2019 & rated 97 points: Arrow & Branch (with Cristal2000): The "Right Bank Bordeaux" red blend is the star of the 2016 A&B lineup. A Cabernet Franc dominant (50%) animal, with a 24%/24% additional split of Cabernet Sauvignon, with 2% Petit Verdot. Tasted directly next to the 2016 A&B 100% Cabernet Franc, I found this blend to be a more complete wine by comparison. The other components added the requisite scaffolding to house the floral-fruity CF core, making for a more serious (and for me, more compelling) profile overall. Power-meets-elegance to truly heightened form.

Black fruited (much more so than the Black Label), with a nice violet/floral lift to juxtapose the foresty/earthy blackberry and black cherry notes. A good deal of complexity overall here. 96-97+ points. Drink now with a healthy decant, or better yet hold for another 3+ years. (2934 views)
Tasted by Cristal2000 on 9/14/2019 & rated 97 points: Arrow & Branch Tasting - with CSIMM1161 (AB House): I've had the last few vintages of this wine, and this is head and shoulders above the others. Truly an incredible effort and really a superior value at the price point.

A blend of 50% Cab Franc, 24% Merlot, 24% Cab and 2% PV. Nose here is a bit restrained with rose petals, crushed flowers, dark cherries and some spice box peaking out. Once you take a sip, you realize this is a deadly serious wine. Big time depth, power, structure and tannins are immediately apparent. Like the 16 Heritage Franc, this has seamless freshness and wonderful purity, with a brooding black fruit element as a result of the blend. Lots of earthy notions and deep mineral driven flavors help round out a very complex and age worthy wine. I would let these sit for a number of years, as they will almost certainly evolve into something amazing. (1915 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
