Community Tasting Notes (average 92.3 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 122 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by sastewart on 12/13/2023 & rated 91 points: Decanted 90 minutes ahead. The decant mellowed this nicely and took off the excess oak on the nose. Not too complex but a nicely balanced fruit forward cab. In its drinking window. I will drink my last bottle in the next year or two. 91 points. (349 views)
Tasted by wetlandwino on 2/25/2023 & rated 93 points: Lovely well integrated California cab. Dark fruit nose and palate, but not too fruit forward. Drinking just right now, but may have years to go. My bottle showed little sign of aging. This was my last of six bottles, but was probably the best after having aged for several years. (816 views)
Tasted by JGinMO on 8/19/2022 & rated 92 points: Remains in a great place, well balanced with firm tannins and structure and lovely red fruits. Not much secondary flavors but a great QPR. (1139 views)
Tasted by EdKz@comcast.net on 7/31/2022 & rated 90 points: Dark ruby, full body, medium blackberry and blackjack gum aromas, black fruit, solid oak, fine grain tannins, medium low acid, short finish, so-so qpr@ $40 (1149 views)
Tasted by bestdamncab on 5/23/2022 & rated 93 points: Nose of black berry, black currants, and subtle floral notes, same on the palate, big body, very tasty, mouth filling fruit, slightly brooding fruit, rich and massive, touch simple, at peak-time to drink up is now, medium/long finish, photo uploaded. (1464 views)
Tasted by JGinMO on 7/30/2021 & rated 90 points: I wonder if bottle variation, this one felt more disjointed, fruit overwhelmed the structure a bit, and got a bit of pruning as if this is heading south. (1767 views)
Tasted by wetlandwino on 6/26/2021 & rated 94 points: Very good Napa cab, drinking beautifully now, but I don't expect it to get any better. Parker cites a drinking window to 2039, which I find difficult to believe. I have one bottle left, which I will hold onto for another year before drinking. Expressive dark fruit nose, which opened up with time. Full-bodied and integrated palate with nice finish. Not much obvious structure. The components are well blended at this time. (1504 views)
Tasted by Wine Lover 1964 on 5/23/2021 & rated 91 points: Fruit has subsided from it younger days and acidity more prevalent. Still very balanced and enjoyed with grilled steak. Best with food at this time in it's life. (1425 views)
Tasted by wetlandwino on 4/13/2021 & rated 92 points: Drinking beautifully now. An exceptional, full bodied, long finish cab sauv. Very enjoyable. (1517 views)
Tasted by srshane on 10/10/2020 & rated 93 points: Beautiful right now. Plenty of fruit left. It is peak now and should be good for another 12-24 months. (1809 views)
Tasted by JGinMO on 9/23/2020: Solid, great drinking window. Not much in secondary flavors (PnP, drank over 3 hours), but a terrific value. (1286 views)
Tasted by sastewart on 4/25/2020 & rated 92 points: The oak was too prominent early on but became less so as time went on. Oak, blackberry and spice on the nose. Full bodied, lower acid wine with moderate tannins. Lots of dark plummy fruit unabashedly Californian. First of three, I will probably drink the others within the next few years. 92 points (1587 views)
Tasted by doublehorn on 4/1/2020 & rated 92 points: Paired with a lovely homemade lasagna. (1575 views)
Tasted by Tym4wine on 1/16/2020 & rated 92 points: Dark red in the glass through the edges. Subtle floral aromas, medium tannins and dark fruit. Medium finish. Such a great wine and fantastic QPR. (1745 views)
Tasted by wetlandwino on 1/11/2020 & rated 92 points: A lovely drinkable cab characterized by silky tannins, low to moderate fruit, and just the right amount of acidity, but a very subtle nose. This wine has great mouth feel and body, and a long finish. With time, I expect the wine to become more elegant after further integration of fruit, tannin, and acidity. (1437 views)
Tasted by JGinMO on 5/31/2019 & rated 92 points: Such a great wine to drink young. Still bold and well balanced. (1900 views)
Tasted by srshane on 4/28/2019 & rated 92 points: Still has some years in the bottle left. Balanced fruit, tannins, medium long finish. (1728 views)
Tasted by Wine Lover 1964 on 2/10/2019 & rated 93 points: Nice fruit and subtle tannins after 2hr decant. Was hoping for a little more backbone of acidity/tannins to show more years of life left but this might be as good as this one gets. Will save last bottle to 2022 to taste at 10yr mark.....improving nicely now with 4hrs air. Increasing from 91 to 93. (1820 views)
Tasted by JGinMO on 12/22/2018 & rated 92 points: Terrific burst of fruit and structure. A little light in the mid palette at this stage, even after 90 mins in glass. (1807 views)
Tasted by moega on 8/8/2018 & rated 93 points: Excellent. The bottle didn't last long enough to get great tasting notes, but everything was perfect from color to taste to finish. (2243 views)
 Tasted by maitredgreg2 on 2/15/2018 & rated 95 points: Awesome! (2856 views)
Tasted by Tym4wine on 1/5/2018 & rated 93 points: Wow, deep, dark, and brooding. Nice tannins, great structure, black fruit, dark chocolate, long finish. Great QPR. (2751 views)
Tasted by 1997cobalt on 12/24/2017 & rated 93 points: Decanted for 3 hours, was tight and a bit medicinal on opening, quickly balanced out to a full bodied, big fruit with muted tannins Cab. The beef was made better with this one (2241 views)
Tasted by Wine_in_HD on 10/5/2017 & rated 93 points: Rich flavors of blueberry, plum, dark cherry, tobacco, and spice. This is my fourth bottle of this wine and it has been consistent with the last two bottles. I did notice it being a bit alcoholy on the second day. Still a very nice wine, particularly for the price. (2670 views)
Tasted by Wine Lover 1964 on 9/27/2017 & rated 92 points: Similar notes as before. Hold 1 bottle until 2020 and last 2022? (2372 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
