Community Tasting Notes (average 89.6 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 17 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by trepak on 8/14/2021 & rated 91 points: No formal notes. Decanted for 2hrs, quite a lot of sediment. Very good dark fruit with good balance of tannin and acidity. Probably at peak, drink up. (578 views)
Tasted by #1 or #2? on 12/5/2020 & rated 91 points: on the nose, blackberries. some strawberry, plum, black olive. lots of sediment in the shoulder of the bottle. colour is a deep purple in the glass. tannin and acidity are both present, nice balance overall. a slight bitterness is detectable but it doesn't detract. a nice crisp finish with some length. lovely, particularly at this price point. (638 views)
Tasted by trepak on 3/2/2020 & rated 92 points: 1hr decant - lots of chucky sediment. Very fragrant, dark fruit, plum and touch of blackcurrant. Slightest hint of acetone, but not too strong. Quite tannic entry, but a full rich palate with a bit of acidity as the tannin dies away. Long, persistent finish. A very good to excellent wine, probably around its peak, although I don’t think there is any major rush to drink up. (786 views)
Tasted by amateur62 on 3/24/2019 & rated 92 points: Last and best bottle of 12. Decanted just before dinner as it has a lots of sediments. Mature Syrah at its peak, on the nose quite intense and complex. on the palate starts very elegant with good acidity, gets more intense with additional air, long finish. Best with food, drink now or during the next three years (it cannot get better than now), good price to quality relation, will buy it again. (1002 views)
Tasted by amateur62 on 3/19/2017 & rated 90 points: PnP. Nice nose with red and black berries and first tertiary notes, fresh and still a bit tart, but softens when drinking next to the beef, medium length. 89 points.

Had opened a bottle before the one above, we all thought it is corked and put it away. After 24 hours, before pouring it out I tried a sip and what a surprise, there was nothing wrong and it was much more open than the bottle yesterday. Quite mature, round and concentrated, dominated by tertiary aromas, long finish, superb. 91 points. (1864 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 1/10/2016 & rated 91 points: We wanted something good if not mind blowing. Great choice. This is drinking well now. It took an hour to open up, so I would decant a bit if time is an issue. Over a few hours, this was very nice. Accessible. Cooler climate perhaps, but certainly no lack of ripeness. Good acidity. Lots of boysenberry fruit. Nice acidity. While not cheap, this is still not yet at peak. (2425 views)
Tasted by robertek on 10/10/2015 & rated 90 points: A bit closed and not my cup of tea. (2118 views)
Tasted by MWiking on 12/30/2013 & rated 85 points: nice palete of blueberries, raspberries, cocoa, coffie. nothing special at all, but ok and nice to just drink it (3342 views)
Tasted by David_K on 10/2/2013 & rated 88 points: Parkerized Northern Rhone. (2848 views)
Tasted by MWiking on 5/8/2012 & rated 88 points: This wine is still to young for my taste,
dark fruit, high alcohol and alot of tanins. (3457 views)
Tasted by Weston3220 on 11/8/2011 & rated 88 points: Trialto Trade Tasting (Trialto Office): Soft Fleshy Fruit, more of dark black cherry made for eating [not them sour cooking cherries] Juicy, soft tannins and a hint of oak in the background (3685 views)

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

Northern Rhône

Guide to the wines and appellations of the Northern Rhone Valley -

The Rhône Valley/Le Vins de la Vallée du Rhône (Comité Interprofession des vins AOC Côtes et vallée du Rhône)

Regional History:
Phocaean Greeks established viticulture in the Rhone as far back as 600 BC, but until the 14th century the wines were not seen outside the region. The establishment of the Avignonese Papacy (1305-1377) brought fame to the region's wine-so much so that their Burgundian neighbors to the north banned wines from the Rhone in 1446, a measure that effectively cut off trade with England and other Northern European markets for over 200 years. Stretching southward from Lyon to just south of Avignon, the Rhone produces a wide variety of wines, with the appellations north of Valence producing the least (in volume), and the towns south of Montelimar producing prodigious amounts. As in other regions, the most interesting wines come from small farms. Saint-Joseph, in the northern Rhone, extends for some distance between Condrieu in the north to Saint-Peray in the south. The reds are made from Syrah and the rare whites from Marsanne and Roussanne, and Viognier.
