Tasted by Mootsie on 10/3/2023 & rated 92 points: Same as my note from 2/8/23. Right on point. Loads of pepper and smoked meat. Punches above its weight class. A deal for $28. No reason to hold. Drink. (491 views)
Tasted by Mootsie on 2/8/2023 & rated 92 points: Very satisfying wine. Great example of a value Syrah. Smoked meats, black raspberry, olive and violet. Drink. (496 views)
Tasted by hmannoe on 11/6/2022 & rated 89 points: Echoing the pepper, meaty herbal. A big wine that will stand up to a curry or pepper steak. (415 views)
Tasted by DeLuz on 3/22/2022 & rated 92 points: Bramble & black pepper on the nose.
Robust palate more black pepper, tart blackberry roasted meats.
This is really good but feels a little bit thin. (641 views)
Tasted by jonahfactor on 12/23/2021: Might be our favorite vintage of this entry-level Syrah from Ojai. Lush, with substance and a meld of black fruits and meaty and herbal elements. Decanted for two hours, this was ready to roll the minute it hit the glass. Drink now to 2025. Worth Seeking Out. (677 views)
Tasted by Mootsie on 9/27/2021 & rated 93 points: Great appellation level wine. Vibrant acidity, black raspberry, smoked meats, tapenade and big pepper. Brings out the notes that Syrah is known for. Balanced. Nice QPR for $25. Will buy more.
Drink or hold

Had this one rated a 92, but the more we sipped, the more we realized just how great this wine is at capturing the smoky/peppery/olive essence of Syrah. 93 (674 views)
Tasted by the godfather on 11/30/2020: Solid juice (726 views)
Tasted by JOsgood on 11/30/2020: Nice California Syrah. (851 views)

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
