Community Tasting Notes (average 93 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 21 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by rnellans on 4/29/2024 & rated 93 points: Cru Crew Wine dinner hosted by Brad England (Mara restaurant at the Four Seasons hotel in Minneapolis, MN.): Served alongside the '92, '96 and '07. Some honeysuckle and baked apple on the nose. Pleasant but lacks depth. Finish OK. Not as good as the other sound wines in the flight. (268 views)
Tasted by BradE on 4/26/2024: Ramonet Montrachet: I've liked this wine historically. This bottle was "good", but came across somewhat flattish and simply didn't sing. (191 views)
Tasted by Collector1855 on 9/11/2022 & rated 94 points: 200 Burgundy Grand Crus from vintage 2000, 4-day blind tasting (Singapore): Rich, very advanced, too nutty for me, end of life and borderline top in terms of ripeness. The Ramonet wines unfortunately did not do so well in this tasting. (2351 views)
Tasted by blacktruffle on 12/7/2020 & rated 94 points: From Magnum, thanks to Rob Caine. Compact notes of ripe citrus and apples paired with Ramonet resin. Very dry, so minerality imparts a bitter note. This is a very young wine that could age for years. It was great to see a sound 2000 Ramonet after so many premoxed siblings. This bottle could have reached 95+ if it had been allowed to age. Or, are these 2000 whites going to stay right here with interrupted development? (1000 views)
Tasted by Brolawa on 11/14/2020 & rated 93 points: Had two bottles with friends to celebrate the U.S. election. Sadly, one was mildly affected - probably premox. The other had a muted nose, but had a nice (but not exceptional) mix of orchard fruit, mineral and floral on the palate. Its finish was clean. Missing was that classic spearmint, earth and wood aroma and taste you so often find in this wine. I would have loved to have tasted it blindly against a mix of other Cd Beaune whites - my hunch is that I would have put it in the middle of the pack. (945 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 8/31/2018 flawed bottle: Coche-Dury Lunch with a La Tâche Kicker, Then More Après Lunch Wines (Elements Restaurant at the Sanctuary - Paradise Valley, AZ): At least moderately oxidized. (2283 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 3/3/2018 flawed bottle: La Paulée de San Francisco - Gala Dinner (The Fairmont - San Francisco CA): Oxidized. (2535 views)
Tasted by dream on 4/18/2017 & rated 95 points: A stunning white Burgundy just reaching its peak. Delicious flavors of corn kernels, lemon chiffon and smoky minerals. Medium-bodied and not showing the tropical fruit, earthy funk that this wine can show as it matures. It's very clean and then finish is really complex with great notes of chalky minerals and Indian spices. (1941 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 4/5/2017: Montrachet Dinner: 10 Vintages of Ramonet and Marquis de Laguiche, 1983-2002 (Oceana - New York NY): Lots of great things here, but somehow this didn't seem in perfect harmony. I don't think I have ever had this vintage before, so don't know if consistent. 91 points today, so still very good, but I would think there is more here than what showed for us tonight. Odd. (2194 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 3/13/2017: This was more advanced than it should have been and had some apple cider things on the nose. It got better in the glass and had a core of sweet orchard fruits flecked with mineral. It was full and rich with quite a sappy feel. (1726 views)
Tasted by TWSA on 12/27/2016 & rated 87 points: Food: French
Condition: Perfect
Duration: bottle breathing for 5 hours, decanted for 1 hour
Aroma: Sweet potato, cream, caramel, hints of white flowers.
Notes: A pretty big disappointment as I've expected a lot more on this wine, I can agree to the fact that its probably not at the best position or time frame of its drinking window but the wine overall seems a bit tired and I'm not entirely sure why. The nose did not show up great despite some maltose and caramel on the palate. I personally think the wine wasn't at its best status tonight and maybe we should open it in another 10 years. Right now maybe not the best idea. (87 pts) (1367 views)
Tasted by sjwshiraz on 8/2/2016: Premoxed (1506 views)
Tasted by sjwshiraz on 2/9/2016: Premoxed (1607 views)
Tasted by dream on 2/4/2016 & rated 96 points: A good, non-premoxed bottle thank goodness. Drinking beautifully now and ever-changing in the glass. A simply wonderful nose of lemon, coconut and spearmint. On the palate it is very fine and it kept gaining in the glass. Less on the tropical fruit side and tasting it blind I feel I might have guessed Chevalier Montrachet given the purity and elegance. The finish is so complex with good intensity and crispness and great mineral notes. Ready now but good bottles of this could still improve. Fantastic white Burgundy! (1729 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 3/16/2014: The nose is quite mute, showing just a little liniment. The palate is rich and concentrated but flavours are muddled and there’s some nuttiness sneaking in. Nowhere near the wine it should be. (2348 views)
Tasted by BradE on 10/20/2013: Drank the 00 Lafon and Ramonet Montrachet side by side. Both were in great shape, and both were beautiful. Two of us slightly preferred the Lafon but the majority preferred the Ramonet. Either way, this was a great pair. (2342 views)
Tasted by UTPK on 11/3/2012: Lovely clear deep colour. Initially butter and lemon on the nose with a pungent extra layer of smoked eel, very queer but interesting. Later on this element became less obvious as other notes of pear, musk and burnt butter and nuts. On the palate it is very oily and full bodied. It almost clings to the inside of your mouth like salmiak powder. Later on it is even more thick, almost like dessertwine. Wow, this is good! Very impressive, the wine seems like 2 years old, very fresh. (2624 views)
Tasted by Pacalet on 7/20/2011 & rated 90 points: US bound bottling with the green label. Strange petro nose at 1st, very stony, mazipan, with nice minerals at the end. But palate a bit lean and doesnt show much fruit, ok but need to try the Domaine bottling. (2368 views)
Tasted by jamiekutch on 10/24/2009: Totally rockin.. No premox here with aromatic fireworks and a massive drenched palate. Complexity which goes onnnnnnn… a million feathers. (3421 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
