Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.7 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 16 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by jerhardt on 1/31/2023: ‘11 Collier Ripaille alongside ‘11 and ‘14 Guiberteau Arboises. The Collier was my least favorite of the bunch; decent fruit, but marred by a bit too much Brett for my preference. ‘11 Guiberteau was in the middle, though showing a bit underripe with more green pyrazine notes than I enjoy. ‘14 Guiberteau did really well, having put on some weight over the past few years while demonstrating a great balance between cab franc character and a bit of polish.  Tasted by MonkeyBiz101 on 10/8/2022 & rated 91 points: Real freshness, with a fruit and funk undertow. Very good. (484 views)
Tasted by wayfarer on 1/17/2021 & rated 92 points: Drinking beautifully, expressive, alive, balanced. Decanted 30 minutes. Crisp well defined red fruit, black cherry , blackberry infused with stone and some underlying herb/vegetable bell pepper notes on the tail end of finish. Acid and tannin together give structure to palate, that evolves through layers of fruit and 'crunch' to more nuanced dimensions in a long finish. Clean, enjoyable with or without food. (982 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 5/4/2020 & rated 91 points: First of a three pack. This took a couple hours to open up. Beautiful smoke tinged nose with classic bell pepper. Medium bodied with suave texture. (1337 views)
Tasted by maxima on 1/29/2019 & rated 87 points: Bu au resto, un des convives avait apporté.
Du jus de poivrons ou de légumes selon certains. On passe! (2036 views)
Tasted by ant-1 on 7/31/2018: Peu de notes. (1665 views)
Tasted by Eliz. Bishop on 7/13/2017 & rated 92 points: Agree with the other tasting notes. Light bodied and elegant. Floral, red fruits and some graphite and mineral notes. Drinking really well right now. (1916 views)
Tasted by jerhardt on 3/25/2017: Consistent with the last bottle; surprisingly light bodied, polished, and elegant. Definitely shows the cab franc character, but in a very pretty package. (1636 views)
Tasted by jerhardt on 8/20/2016 & rated 92 points: Elegant and polished cab franc in a light to medium bodied package. Really nice right now. (1846 views)
Tasted by portman63 on 6/16/2016 & rated 90 points: Got rustic wild notes right away and some bell pepper. With air over an hour or so, that gave way to more dark forrest fruit / red currants. Some oak present, but not overwhelming. I wanted to try this young to check out this producer. Seems to have a lot of promise, but needs time to come together fully so I'll give the rest 2-3 years more. (1807 views)
Tasted by 560 B&W on 11/1/2015 & rated 91 points: Decanted. Took an hour to open. Delightful when it did. 12% (1941 views)
Tasted by vintage_whine on 8/13/2015: elegant ripe red fruited. transcends cab franc to flirt with whole cluster burgundy. m+ to high acid that seems out of place with a full viscous body. needs more time to integrate. oak is present, but is complimentary rather than dominating. (1614 views)
Tasted by Mazy on 5/9/2015: 100% Cabernet franc

(1737 views)
Tasted by Francois Le Mouel on 11/26/2014 & rated 91 points: Very nice Saumur...but maybe at tad expensive. Animal notes at first and slightly rustic in the mouth. Intense with very good lenght and acidity. 12% alcool. (1708 views)

HISTORY OF THE DOMAIN

Since 1996, Romain Guiberteau has run a fabulous 14.5 hectare estate south of Saumur. Mainly composed of Cabernet Franc (6 hectares) and Chenin (8.5 hectares), it brilliantly produces 3 red wines and 5 white wines from vines with an average age of 40 years.

Recognized for a very long time for the high quality of its whites, the estate took a major step in 2003 by switching to organic farming: the soils are worked and grassed naturally; and only sulphur, copper and plant decoctions are used in the treatment of the vine.

Thus the reds have gained in finesse and brilliance and today reveal a sophistication and elegance worthy of the Saumur appellation. As for the whites, they have reached a delicacy of aromas like the great whites of Burgundy!

Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Les Arboises Brézé

The wines from Romain Guiberteau are some of the most highly sought-after in all of the Loire Valley. Farming his familial vineyards organically for over 20 years, he quickly ascended as an assuming superstar of the vine, bringing particular accliam to the historic hill of Breze. This is the creme de la creme of his red offerings. From a one hectare plot of Cab Franc planted on the southern-facing hill of Breze in 1957, this is a special wine to own. Treated to the most luxurious treatment at the domaine, with 18 months spent in 80% new barrel.
