Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.2 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 63 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by ttholst on 3/29/2024 & rated 90 points: Pnp. Vakker, kjølende og sitrusdrevet duft og smak. Sitrondrops, hvite blomster, kaldt smør og nøtter. Nøysom fatbruk og vinen oppleves som fjellbekkren. Intens og elegant fra start til mål. (581 views)
Tasted by liber on 1/15/2024 & rated 88 points: 2 bottles, pnp, perfect corks and level - quite pale yellow; fresh, orchards and citrus, acid edge and simple; lightish, fine line and length, fresh in attractive reduced style, bit acid and simple but good stuff for what it is as expected from PYCM, upside, 5 years. VG (16). (915 views)
Tasted by lozatron on 12/8/2023: Mongeard-Mugneret and friends (London Borough of Bromley): Served blind. A bit more clinical on the nose. Is this a village Puligny? No - lower than villages classification. There's a tautness here, a line. This producer delivered well in '18 and at this level their wines really shine. Lovely. (1074 views)
Tasted by Aravind Asok on 10/22/2023: Pop and pour. Notes from 24 hrs open. A touch attenuated and more acidic than my previous btl. Still the lime, vanilla are present, but just ok on the nose and palate. I'm ok not buying this again. (1288 views)
Tasted by Tejassathian on 10/8/2023 & rated 92 points: This wine is in a sweet spot for PYCM - a great illustration of the style but not an overly aggressive example for those who are overwhelmed by the sulphuric reduction of that style. About exactly what I'd want chardonnay to be - energetic and electric, reductive and smoky, ripe and starting to show some faintly caramelized notes. I have a couple more bottles that I'll drink over the next couple of years. (1255 views)
Tasted by La Cave d'Argent on 7/1/2023 & rated 91 points: Uncorked and poured, this light golden wine requires only about 20 minutes to shed its light reductive notes and fully exhibit a bouquet of lime zest, Bosq pears, white peaches, lemon verbena, jasmine and wet stones. Medium-bodied, crisply acidic, minimally oaked and without noticeable alcohol (listed as 12.5%), it delivers flavors mirroring the aromas, adding notes of ginger and cardamom. The wine's beautiful minerality is pervasive on the dense mid-palate and lengthy finish. This well-crafted white Burgundy is just hitting its stride. It should show nicely throughout the remainder of this decade, possibly longer. Serve it at no lower than cellar temperature in order to maximize the aromatics. Drink now-2030. (1397 views)
Tasted by Jeongyahn on 2/26/2023 & rated 91 points: Great Value
Good to know the PYCM style
Delicious and Layered
It's definitely not an ordinary HCDB (1495 views)
Tasted by JRavn on 2/25/2023: behind the long name is chardonnay grapes from three west-southwest facing parcels. Lifted with white flowers and a chalcky grip. Reductive, a bit austere and closed with medium-high acidity. (1330 views)
Tasted by chbeaumont on 2/19/2023 & rated 89 points: Remains pale; crystalline focus to bouquet; there’s more apparent on the palate, razor sharp attack & sense of place ; crisp finish, very long. (1422 views)
Tasted by Bakerbd on 10/6/2022 & rated 91 points: Lovely citrus and white flower nose, just a hint of reduction, med body, linear, not too complex, easy to like (1837 views)
Tasted by RichD2 on 8/14/2022 & rated 93 points: Medium-bodied, somewhat smokey reductive adds to the lemony citrus flavors. Nice length. Balanced acidity. Drinking very beautifully now. (1678 views)
Tasted by king-bing on 8/8/2022: Last of 6. Decent enough and in the house style but I’ve never really got on with these. The slightly higher village levels are the sweet spot I think. (1496 views)
Tasted by Sperls on 7/9/2022 & rated 88 points: This bottle was still quite reductive and high acid but the fruit was there w a chewy texture and decent finish. Wasn’t what I expected at first but I left a half glass out for 4 hours over dinner and that experience was a more complete wine with the parts in the right place. Will wait a year to try the next bottle. (1554 views)
Tasted by king-bing on 7/1/2022: The best bottle yet, by far. Gaining some interest now. Very PYCM: clean and well judged with some tension. Some chalk, lemon and pith. This has real texture, even chewy. Still missing a core; some oomph, but this was pretty decent. (1581 views)
Tasted by Tejassathian on 5/28/2022 & rated 90 points: Really pleasant, not too serious, but a great illustration of the PYCM style. Reductive and flinty; medium bodied and quite rich; lacking the depth and breadth of his village bottlings but still something of that nature is present. (1475 views)
Tasted by king-bing on 4/15/2022: Decent but hard to get excited about. Not sure I get this wine. Surprisingly austere. Not that I mind that per se, but in this form a bit unlovable. (1565 views)
Tasted by sleepyhaus on 2/10/2022: Much more reserved than previous bottles. Will likely hold my last bottle a couple of years to see how it develops, though the ripeness of '18 may not benefit that strategy. Still pleasant enough, and showing very much in the PYCM style, but subdued where some earlier bottles were practically explosive. (1981 views)
Tasted by ttholst on 2/5/2022 & rated 90 points: 1 t i karaffel. Vakkert balansert gjennom hele smakskurven. Medium lengde. (1767 views)
Tasted by winelover1808 on 1/15/2022 & rated 90 points: Outstanding QPR (1851 views)
Tasted by king-bing on 10/31/2021: Drank from opening when it was fine but sadly pretty muted. The last glass was really singing. This needs a good couple of hours to breathe otherwise it's a waste. (2162 views)
Tasted by The Wine Dispatch [b2w.wine] on 10/26/2021 & rated 89 points: Bright, taught, and minerally. Notes of underripe lemon, white flower, lambic yeast, green apple skin, and just the faintest hint of brioche and pastry. The palate is linear & austere, showing chalky minerality, bright acidity, and an elegant midpalate, although the finish fades away rather quickly. 89-90, could benefit from a bit more bottle age. (2063 views)
Tasted by Brnshj22 on 9/22/2021: closed at the moment (2170 views)
Tasted by king-bing on 9/17/2021: V decent but now wow. A vigorous shake to lessen sulphur helped. The some lemon oak, herbs, sea, grassiness. Became leaner over time. Classy, but I think a recent 2013 Kershaw Elgin Chardonnay was better. Perhaps more time needed? (1956 views)
Tasted by tunaguy on 8/29/2021: lots of citrus and salty minerality, with some flint and herbs. close to light body but great texture. high acid (2059 views)
Tasted by NickA on 8/28/2021 & rated 92 points: Eight at the Fordwich Arms (The Fordwich Arms): Seemed to be really hitting its stride: lovely oak on the nose, excellent weight of fruit for a regional wine, just so moreish. Quality obvious to the 'civilians' we drank it with, as well as to those of us in the know. OK, it tailed off on the finish and wasn't exactly complex, but it's a damn fine wine - looking forward to my magnums! (1868 views)

Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey

Producer Website

After leaving his family domaine in 2005, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey has established himself as one of the rising stars of Burgundy. Pierre-Yves has built a strong reputation for crafting exquisite white Burgundy that display energy and vitality. The white wines are whole bunch pressed, fermented with natural yeasts, aged on lees for up to 18 months in mostly in 350 litre barrels with no lees stirring and no filtration. More recently Pierre-Yves has sourced Pinot Noir from some exceptional vineyards further north in the Cote d'Or, and these are also exciting wines true to their appellation. The corks used come from one tiny supplier and are extra long and extra wide (55mm x 25mm) for the village, 1er cru and Grand cru wines and are untreated with no paraffin and the bottles are then sealed with soft wax to ensure no problems with premature oxidation. The resulting wines are built to age classically up to 10 years or more.

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
