Community Tasting Notes (average 91.3 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 10 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by EMAZurich on 1/1/2024 & rated 92 points: 100% Meunier, premier Cru Lagen aus Vrigny, keine Dosage, keine Malo, ca. 2 Jahre auf der Hefe, Dégorgement 02/23.
Klarerweise sehr energische Perlage, nachhaltig und sehr fein. Mittleres Goldgelb, leicht orangefarbene Reflexe.
Fruchtdominierte Nase, Birne, Weingartenpfirsich, Kamillenblüte - kaum Hefearomen.
(832 views)

Tasted by Vas19 on 6/27/2023 & rated 91 points: Disgorged 09/11/2020. Pours a surprisingly dark orange color. I really like the minerality of this champagne, but it's lacking some fruit to balance that minerality. It ends up coming off as austere. Wish there were a couple grams of dosage for my palate.  Tasted by Bathtub58 on 5/10/2022 & rated 92 points: Initially, apple juice and a bit one dimensional. But, after being open for 45+ minutes this really began to show. Moderate aromas of spiced orchard fruit. Moderate flavors of orchard fruit and fresh lemon. Lots of energy. Upside. 92-94+. 0g/l dosage, disgorged 09/11/2020. (1438 views)
Tasted by Frank Murray III on 3/17/2022: Bubbleclub--March 2022 (all wines served blind): Third bottle in past 4 months, and I tell you, this stuff is the real deal good. Disgorged September 2020, 100% PM, no dosage. Lightly bronze in color. Honeysuckle aroma, along with citrus blossom and slate. The palate is infused with plenty of flavor. Stone fruits of nectarine and peach, along with apple. The structure is what also fires me up, with an impression of wet stone and lemon peel acidity. Excellent complexity, with a concentrated profile and stony finish. This wine is on my radar for more. (1342 views)
Tasted by Frank Murray III on 1/23/2022: Disgorged November 2020. 100% PM from Chenay and Vrigny (think the north and west sections of the region, just west of Reims, just north of the Montagne). Farmed organic and this cuvee has no dosage, which is I believe the style and intent for the other wines, too. This is another good zero dosage bottling, and like so many I like in Champagne made this way, my belief is that if one is going to omit dosage, then the wine should still be expressive and balanced. This is indeed true here. Golden apple, and what at times reminded me of a slice of apple pie, with a note of the crust and apple essence all working well together. Then, the acidity which is a bright lemon, and again driven by the farming I presume here, the acidity takes on a lemon curd-like note. This is a very good wine, with lots of flavor and presence. The 4 of us polished off the entire bottle over dinner. This is a new producer for me, worth seeking out more. (1363 views)
Tasted by adnorthup on 1/21/2022: 100% Meunier, disgorged with no dose Nov. 9, 2020. 1,621 bottles produced. Loads of bruised apple, a b it of brioche, a wonderfully long finish mixing richness and acid seamlessly. This is a very delicious champagne, another great example of Meunier and a reminder to buy more Lamblot champagne. (768 views)
Tasted by jvphoto on 7/29/2021 & rated 91 points: ripe pears, baked apples, lemon oil, raspberry ginger ale, thick bubbles (1416 views)
 Tasted by julen789 on 2/5/2021: DG 06/2020
Maybe it was too young, maybe the base vintage was 2017 (notoriously difficult, with a lot of rotten grapes lost in the harvest, as well as overripe fruit), maybe it's just not to our taste, or maybe all of the above; the only thing we have clear is that, unfortunately, we didn't enjoy this wine at all.
Habitually, we're very enthusiastic about wines from this cru, especially meunier (the variety 'par excellence' in Vrigny), but this particular wine wasn't for us. We found it far too woody, almost certainly vinified in new barrels; an overriding sensation of excessively ripe grapes with overly bruised, almost cider-like apples, as well as overripe pears; it was woody, but not in a good way, the sensation this gave was that of licking a plank of freshly stripped wood, which also made it feel overly astringent. The acidity was very high, aggressively so; perhaps in some people's opinion it would have benefitted from decanting, but we don't personally decant champagne, and we also didn't have the time, since this was drunk during a dinner with friends.
We don't believe that this was a defective/corked bottle, rather that it just didn't perform that evening; the price-pleasure balance is very imbalanced in our opinion, since at 69 euros, there are many, many references that are infinitely more pleasurable.

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
