| Community Tasting Notes (average 96.5 pts. and median of 97 pts. in 87 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by mdvillaverde on 2/4/2024 & rated 96 points: 14.4% abv. Right up my alley. Dense chewy fruit. Sour cherry notes. Perfect acidity. (637 views) | | Tasted by Harbthewineguy on 12/25/2023 & rated 94 points: Excellent wine! Decanted it for 4 hours and paired it with an applewood smoked New York Steak, roasted peppers, and veggies. This wine was very well balanced. Deep flavors of blackberries, blueberries, dark chocolate (about 72% Cacao), coffee, black currants, and a little caramel among other flavors within the multiple layers. The finish is long, smooth, and continues to evolve on the palate. (572 views) | | Tasted by slywka7 on 12/25/2023 & rated 100 points: Decanted for almost 3 hours. Aromas of blackberry, currant, cherry, iron and lead pencil. Flavors of blackberry, currant, black cherry, iron and dash of mocha. Ends with a long finish of 55-60 seconds with blackberry and chocolate notes. This hasn’t moved at all in 7 years and still drinking fantastic. Showing no signs of age. (599 views) | | Tasted by winelover1808 on 7/16/2023 & rated 98 points: probably one of the best CA cabs i've had in a while and perhaps the best Schrader I've had? tons of layers of blueberry fruit, dark chocolate; acidity was there to keep it fresh but this was very new world, fruit driven with a long long smooth finish. terrific wine. (1376 views) | | Tasted by sdezutti on 5/23/2023 & rated 99 points: Amazing wine. This has another level even when compared with classic, world class Cabernet. Deeper, more complex. Amazing mouthfeel and finish. This has an extra layer that is difficult to describe but you know it as soon as you smell and taste the wine. I might be wrong in not giving 100 points. (1208 views) | | Tasted by andrewdodd86 on 10/16/2022 & rated 98 points: Blueberry, still underlying cherry. Nice acid. Good To Kalon iron fist velvet glove smoothness. (1590 views) | | Tasted by rustyRudy on 10/16/2022 & rated 98 points: Drank for birthday dinner at Rhubarb. Marvelous! (1430 views) | | Tasted by andrewdodd86 on 8/9/2022 & rated 99 points: Kiawah 2022; 8/6/2022-8/13/2022: Dark blueberry bomb. Less dried fruit. My favorite and better than the Shafer HSS. Now-2030?+ (1716 views) | | Tasted by rustyRudy on 8/9/2022 & rated 99 points: Beach tasting. Dark purple. My favorite of the three. Huge. Concentrated, red and black fruits, still very tannicsnd multidimensional (1416 views) | | Tasted by mbenz on 1/22/2022 & rated 99 points: Nearly flawless. Drinking exceptionally well. (1673 views) | | Tasted by D'Yquembe Mutumbo on 10/15/2021 & rated 97 points: The kind of wine that, if you had Bobby Axelrod money, I'd make your house wine. The ultimate crowd pleaser, everyone loved this wine's lovely bouquet of flowers and mineral backbone balancing out the purity of blueberry compote, nutmeg, cedar, savory spices, and dark chocolate. So good, can't wait to have another bottle. (1634 views) | | Tasted by pjhr on 7/18/2021 & rated 96 points: Wonderful black cherry and cassis aromas and flavors with layers of mocha, spice, and oak on the long finish. (1616 views) | | Tasted by HOS on 7/18/2021 & rated 96 points: Decanted for 1/2 hour and then drank over 2 hours. Initial taste pre decant had a alcoholic edge. After decant, it was intense currant, blueberry with some savory notes. Full bodied with a long finish. (1380 views) | | Tasted by Amerique on 12/31/2020 & rated 92 points: Very disappointing. Expected much more. Rich black cherry fruit. Round, smooth, and slightly sweet plum flavors but lacked depth and complexity. Short finish (1891 views) | | Tasted by houstonjeff@hotmail.com on 10/30/2020 & rated 97 points: Showing extremely well. Dark fruit, blackberry, leather, tobacco, earth. Lucius and silky! (1644 views) | | Tasted by Jerry 3 on 9/12/2020 & rated 96 points: Great nose, deep purple color, dark berries, taste of learher, smooth and delightful finish. Decanted for over an hour to let it open uo. Drank almost within 2 hours. Only had one bottle/ wish i had more (1593 views) | | Tasted by D'Yquembe Mutumbo on 8/16/2020 & rated 97 points: Wine of the summer for me. Christmas cakes, menthol, blueberry, violets and damp earth on the nose for me, this jumped out of the glass after a 2 hour decant. This is purple to the core, with a thin ruby red rim, and as concentrated a wine as I have had in a while. There was nothing shy about this wine; absolutely bursting with blue and red berries, balanced by some warm spices (nutmeg, cinnamon) and light pepper notes. My first Schrader; I can't wait for my next! (1734 views) | | Tasted by royalscam on 3/22/2020 & rated 96 points: In a great place, lively full of cassis, dark berries and plum. Great concentration and mouthfeel; dark, inky color and almost thick consistency; good penetration and long finish - drank over two hours with large Bordeaux drinking glasses; no decant (2005 views) | | Tasted by beau11 on 3/21/2020 & rated 97 points: Opened poured a glass and recorked for 7 hours. This bottle was great. Cassis and plum with a uniaue almost cloudiness taste. (The wine wasnt cloudy). Tannins resolved. This bottle woulb be at peak in 1-2 years imo. (1616 views) | | Tasted by gteran76 on 3/8/2020 & rated 95 points: At a beautiful place right now! (1544 views) | | Tasted by Roentgen Ray on 12/3/2019 & rated 97 points: Rich and balanced. (1899 views) | | Tasted by brianngibson on 4/13/2019 & rated 99 points: I haven’t decided what perfection tastes like. But this has to be close. (2598 views) | | Tasted by pakabear on 3/23/2019 & rated 99 points: Wow, PnP, ready to go. Dark red and blue fruits, massive wine, tobacco leaf, cinnamon, clove, anise, vanilla, tree bark, top soil, amazing purity and balance. His is just about perfect and is pure Napa, so no old world lovers here... (2084 views) | | Tasted by Mike V on 8/25/2018 & rated 91 points: This is a bit too confectionary for me. Everything is there bus the sweetness overwhelms the fruit. (2551 views) | | Tasted by Onegooddan on 5/14/2018 & rated 99 points: Just incredible. Rich, full nose of blue and black fruit, toast, chocolate. Initially a bit tight, but opened nicely after only about an hour in decanter, with beautiful silky tannins, classic perfect primary fruit, integrated oak character, and long finish. Wine of the night and then some. (2912 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |

| Schrader Cellars Producer websiteCabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet SauvignonBeckstoffer To Kalon VineyardBeckstoffer To Kalon continues to receive worldwide accolades for its wines, particularly in the last decade. The vineyard is on a gentle slope on the western foothills of the Oakville appellation. Soils are Bale loam/Bale clay loam, and are impeccably farmed by Andy Beckstoffer’s team. We have a by-acre contract so we can determine canopy, crop load and picking dates – but rely on the Beckstoffer viticulturists for insight into this unique vineyard to guide our decisions. ... ©2012 Tor Kenward Family Wines On weinlagen-info
USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Oakville |
