| Community Tasting Notes (average 91 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 43 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by Chrisinroch on 1/30/2024 flawed bottle: Oxidized (351 views) | | Tasted by GAET on 7/15/2023 & rated 91 points: Robe dorée, assez foncée. Nez : sur le coing, la pomme et encore le coing. Un peu de fleurs En bouche : belle longueur, avec une belle salinité. Très bien (516 views) | | Tasted by olemski on 4/10/2022 & rated 88 points: Excellent wine with none of the oxidation I had feared after my last bottle of the 2014 vintage. Straw coloured. So far so good. Aroma with yellow apple, white pepper (!) and lime acidity. In the mouth it is sinewy yet harmonious, with good persistence. A very satisfying wine. However, I have now decided to lower the cellar time on my Chidaine wines to no more than five years. (My points have been adjusted to fit with the original descriptions of Parker. This is an excellent wine, but not outstanding. (1043 views) | | Tasted by Klugi Wine on 8/28/2021 & rated 92 points: At a beautiful spot right now. Bouquet of flowers, some agrume, spring honey and a little peach. Good structure with acidity and richness in balance. (1033 views) | | Tasted by Mr T on 6/29/2021: This bottle was fairly acidic and perhaps slightly out of balance, but improved with air and paired pretty well with fried seafood where the acid cut the fat nicely. (1021 views) | | Tasted by Mr T on 5/17/2021: Similar to last bottle Was excellent with chicken with cream and mustard sauce (891 views) | | Tasted by jsherdc on 11/21/2020 & rated 91 points: Boring day 1 , but very flavorful day 2. Full bodied, exotic flavors of quince and maybe lemongrass. (893 views) | | Tasted by wayfarer on 11/14/2020 & rated 93 points: Deep yellow, hints of age on opening via a touch of nutty wood, aged lemon. With air time more integrated mosaic, much as short & confused, mjreb describe. Too an initial impression of high acidity moderated as fruit became more expressive. Quite deep and long, and the lemon, apple, honey, light floral notes were captivating. Definitely grew on me, and the morphing through dinner of sauteed scallops and lion's mane mushrooms over pasta was excellent. Seems to be at a great stage now, and given some uneven aging of chidaine bottles in past I am inclined to say drink up. (697 views) | | Tasted by MJReb on 11/11/2020 & rated 91 points: Apple and citrus, nuts, pronounced salinity, good length, in a nice spot right now. (726 views) | | Tasted by short and confused on 7/23/2020 & rated 93 points: So good and such a value! Wild yeasts, no malo. The green apple is strong and chiseled. White flowers, chamomile and honey. Wow. And for $27... (945 views) | | Tasted by MJReb on 7/18/2020 & rated 91 points: Same remarks as with the last one some months ago: apple and citrus, good volume and length, still young. (729 views) | | Tasted by MJReb on 5/1/2020 & rated 91 points: Mainly apple, some citrus, a nice salinity, still young and not extremely expressive, very good, but another year or two of cellaring will be beneficial. (729 views) | | Tasted by Shesmu on 3/8/2020: deep gold. nice but nothing earth shattering decent acidity (883 views) | | Tasted by chcook on 1/26/2020: PNP. cork perfect. color gold. no denying the oxidation on the nose and the palate. agree that there is adequate acidity to keep this interesting, but when drunk with a non-oxidated contemporary wine there is no denying it. good but would have guessed this from Jura - maybe intentional but certainly not typical chenin (1034 views) | | Tasted by Motz on 10/12/2019 & rated 93 points: Magnum, tasted over two days. Pure, weighty, gritty, honeyed, and mineral-driven Chenin Blanc. Excellent substance and balance. Ridiculously young. Let it rest for several years. (1274 views) | | Tasted by christianminer on 9/14/2019 & rated 92 points: Fermentation of Les Choisilles can last up to six months, with wild yeasts, no malo-lactic, aging on the lees in large barrels. The 2015s at Chidaine are studies in terroir with the young wines showing intense acidity and mineral flavors eclipsing, for now, the elegant white and yellow fruits that coat the palate. The Choisilles is the archetype of the great wines of Montlouis-sur-Loire. François Chidaine delivers a superb score, with a wine on the flowers, infusion (linden, chamomile), stone fruits (peach, apricot) The attack in the mouth is of a great amplitude, all in sweetness, with then the acidity that takes over and allows the wine to stand on a long and vibrant finish, with a hint of bitterness that enhances the flavors. Les Choisille offers a wine with a superb balance between fat and minerality. Very nice wine.
Though delicious now, served with grilled fish, fish and chicken in sauce and shellfish. (1086 views) | | Tasted by mike l. on 7/16/2019 & rated 90 points: reliable but this lacked some of the character of other bottlings from the same vintage. (980 views) | | Tasted by Frank Murray III on 6/23/2019: Couple years since the previous bottle. Green apple, wool and floral nose, maybe a little flint, too. Color is a light gold but to dispel any inference to oxidation here, I don't find any at all. The core of the wine is a lot like the bottle from 2-17, exhibiting a good amount of bright citrus, grapefruit in tone. Mixed in is green apple, peach and good tension through the clean finish. This bottle is bright with energy and crisper flavors. In a good place for drinking or further aging. (1321 views) | | Tasted by Bob H on 3/24/2019: My last bottle. Golden-colored in the glass, with a crisp, focused, minerally nose.
Bracing acidity on the palate - a wine that, at least IMO, has a pretty wide range of drinkability. That said, off this bottle, I could argue that I've ended up drinking all of mine too young ;^)
Some tart apple fruit on the palate - this is very easy to knock back a couple glasses on a sunny Sunday afternoon. (1258 views) | | Tasted by Mr T on 2/19/2019: Acid seemed better balanced this time with solid fruit....very nice wine (1043 views) | | Tasted by rieslinghoarder on 11/24/2018 & rated 92 points: Ripe lemon, bruised yellow apple, and a touch of flint. Refreshing acidity that coats the palate, medium body and great intensity of flavors. The wine ends on a long, slightly saline finish. What a great bottle! (1585 views) | | Tasted by MJReb on 10/25/2018 & rated 92 points: Citrus, white fruit (mainly apple), floral notes, very mineral (salty), good density and length. Extremely good bottle, reminds me on the Brézé of Clos Rougeard in a cool year. (1211 views) | | Tasted by dvansteenderen on 10/13/2018 & rated 91 points: @ Octopus in Béziers. Our fist wine this evening, way too young so a reductive nose but the taste is already very coating with sharp acidity as well. Good! (1262 views) | | Tasted by Mr T on 7/21/2018: Sharp acidity as noted by others and less round than some of other bottling
Pairs well with food
Certainly no wet wool here (1318 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |
