Red and black plum, blackberry jam, strawberry jam, cassis. Tomato juice, Tabasco? Tomato leaf. Cedar, cinnamon, pepper, liquorice root. Palate: dry, medium(-) acidity, medium(+) tannins, high alcohol (14%), medium(+) bodied. Medium intensity, medium length finish. Red and black plum, blackberry jam, strawberry jam, cassis. Tomato juice. Tomato leaf. Cedar, cinnamon, pepper, liquorice root. Conclusions: good. (Could be very good, but lacks a little complexity.) Can drink now, but suited to further short term ageing. P&P (pop&pour), not decanted. Blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec. Seal: technical cork DAY 2: hasn't moved at all. Maybe more tomato than Day 1, but that's it. A blend of primarily Cab Sauv and Merlot with a bit of Cab Franc. Decanted a bit over an hour, drank over 2+.
Right now this is drinking heavy with a ton of smoke and wood, and not much fruit. Might be better in a few years, but I'm not grabbing another to wait. Had this on its own, but it also might drink better with some heavy meat dish. (208 views) |
| Golan Heights Winery Producer WebsiteRed Bordeaux BlendRed Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.
Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico. |
