Tasted by Saxman1984 on 3/10/2024: Oh yes, a lovely blanc de blancs. Drank from a Zalto burgundy glass, as recommended from the producer. Perfect acidity for an extra brut, probably due to the malolactic fermentation. Pear and citrus on the nose and palate. Great mouthfeel. Drank during the Oscars. I need more of this wine (848 views)
Tasted by jrh82 on 2/10/2024 & rated 94 points: This one needed a lot of time in the glass, and honestly was way better day 2. Was quite overwhelming initially. I love the size and opulence of Lassaigne's wine in general, and on the Vignes de Mongueux it strikes the right balance from the first whiff - whereas on the Le Cotet it was initially a bit much. Making it slightly difficult to love immediately. BUT, with time in the glass - woah - what a wine! The wine found its feel, kept the amazing opulence but countered with with freshness and elegance. I can see why Mr. Lassaigne recommends to drink his wines from Burgundy glasses. They really do need the space to unfold. Top wine! (828 views)
Tasted by Decanting Queen on 2/9/2024 & rated 93 points: I absolutely loved this champagne. Not sure the dosage, probably higher than my usual sweet spot but this was drinking so nicely, citrus balanced with pear. A touch sweet but honestly not overly so. (1433 views)
Tasted by DrBad on 1/27/2024 & rated 93 points: Very nice bottle we opened to celebrate the (near) completion or our kitchen remodel, this one is in my wheelhouse. Medium plus body, round, mouth filling, apple, pear, almond paste. Big, persistent mousse. (1051 views)
Tasted by Collector1855 on 1/16/2024 & rated 93 points: Base 2018, DG23, I was told by the merchant. Youthful and foamy. took a while to open up and even better on day two. I recommend to decant this in a carafe if you open the 2023 release. Precise palate with citrus, pear, good mouth feel, sappy low dosage finish, very precise, delineated and long, no sugar/brioche kick whatsoever. More Puligny than classic Brut Champagne. For the purists. Would need to add a little more complexity for a higher score though. May be a bit of bottle age could help but unfortunately there is no disgorgement date or back label on the bottle for this, something every non mass-market Cuvée should have. (1706 views)
Tasted by tobyc on 12/16/2023 & rated 89 points: Single vineyard in Montgueux, old vines. Straw yellow colour. Lightly reductive with white herb flowers and perfume. Good volume and creamy mouthfeel, dry but with just a bit of dosage to hold it together and rathet sharp acidity. Good length. (868 views)
Tasted by Lehto on 10/27/2023 & rated 88 points: International Champagne Day!

Found this bottle recently on auction for a very fair price. Code on the label showed it was bottled in 2007 and disgorged in June 2009, so quite a bit of bottle age on this, but it looked to be in very good condition. It also opened up with great fizz.

Nose had quite some freshness to it actually though with typical aged Chardonnay notes as well. Pickled lemon, roasted nuts, bruised apple, butter and some flowers.

The palate on the other hand felt just a tad bit unbalanced and un-integrated. First off there was an extremely distinct note of walnut, which then turned over to a very high acidity coming mainly from citrus fruits and what felt like green grapes and unripe stone fruits. Then it kind of felt like the acidity and freshness disappeared from the palate again and it gave way to bruised apple, pickled lemon, toast, browned butter and the distinct walnut note again with quite high bitterness that also stayed for the finish and aftertaste.

Overall this wasn't bad in any sense, but I feel like this should have been opened maybe 5-10 years ago for a better experience. (1256 views)
Tasted by DrBad on 1/14/2023 & rated 93 points: Really enjoyed this wine. Golden yellow in the glass. Enticing nose of yeast, bread, pears and apricot. Fine, persistent mousse on the palate. Crisp green apple, pear, more apricot, lingering minerality, not tart but not sweet at all for my palate. (1849 views)
Tasted by MJP Hou TX on 12/30/2022: Wonderful on the nose but on the palate this was just too sweet.

Almost undrinkable. (2269 views)
Tasted by vintage_whine on 12/29/2022: excellent, but perhaps too young. focused green apple and lemon, oxidation does not overtake the freshness or precision of the wine at all, and its hallmark is intensity and concentration. definitely one to seek out. rides the balance between intensity and texture so well (1453 views)
Tasted by Ghoulardi on 12/21/2022 & rated 91 points: Excellent minerality and richness. A tad oxidative, but chalk-driven and well-balanced. Really good but perhaps a bit pricey. (1396 views)
Tasted by Argrath on 10/29/2022 & rated 91 points: (Blind tasting)
Full, mature nose. Smoky. Ripe apple and dark chocolate. Very autolytic. Very toasty. Apricots and orchard fruit.
Fullish palate. Toasty and rich. Powerful with good acidic spine. Good grip, albeit a bit short finish. And lackning some intensity and complexity.
Taste like a Chablis with bubbles. (1362 views)
Tasted by NickA on 4/1/2022 & rated 91 points: Restrained, well put-together wine, with an interesting combination of ripe aromas and flavours and very brisk acidity. Sassafras, a touch of mango and tropical flowers, quite saline, not particularly effervescent. Very serious, almost Calvinist. Think I respect rather than love Lassaigne's wines. (2211 views)
Tasted by 5laton on 3/18/2022: Bottle code 20120714. Per brooklynguy this is the bottling date and not the disgorgement date, so this indicates this release is based on 2011, was bottled in 2012, and disgorged in 2014. I bought this in 2016. OTOH, futronic claims it's simply the disgorgement date. C'est la vie.
Regardless, this was delicious. Somewhat austere given the low dosage and limited fruit, but not extreme. Initially some beautiful fresh mandarin/kumquat citrus up front, which faded a bit to reveal an incredibly mineral wine with fruit in the background. Superlatives like purity, transparency come to mind; this felt like drinking liquid essence of rocks. Fascinating and so different from experiences with earlier vintages like 2009, which had an almost decadent sort of orange creamsicle fruit up front. (547 views)
Tasted by jnewman77 on 11/7/2021: Fresh and nervous with a lovely tension; citrus and mineral with hints of fresh earth and a bit of spice; good concentration. Very good. (2182 views)
Tasted by WetRock on 10/11/2021: Almost rancio initially. It really marks more of a solera sort of wine though the notes I see only claim 10% reserve wines. Also some cream and wood on the nose. That solera effect helps make this very vinous on the palate. Good drive and nice texture, particularly towards the finish. I could find not good evidence of disgorgement but given this is supposed to be a base 2015 wine I would think its within the last two years. Or maybe further back if its really 90% vintage. I'd like that wood to integrate a bit more but overall this is a wine of strong skill. I'm guessing in a better vintage its a good deal better with some more fruit oomph. (2300 views)
Tasted by CMN on 5/9/2021 & rated 92 points: The palate reveals apple, lemon oils, brioche and lightly oxidative flavors. Initially quite linear. Seemed a touch austere at first, but the wine unfurls with some air. High- acidity and a refined mousse. Comes off as fairly vinous. Quite good now and should improve with short term aging.

Disgorged 3/9/20. (2563 views)
Tasted by Vas19 on 2/22/2021 & rated 90 points: 15 base. Good but not memorable (2889 views)
Tasted by MAXIMUM SATISFACTION on 2/12/2021 & rated 90 points: Too musty for my preference. Texturally nice with great acidity and clean fruit but too much old basement/wild game for me. Opened for a few hours and though the funk dissipated it still remained prevalent. Nice but like the prior taster won’t seek out especially given the price point. Disgorged 12/17/19. (2458 views)
Tasted by burgconvert on 2/7/2021 & rated 90 points: Pronounced expression of Lees, with the musty toastiness that is welcomed. Also strong expression of apple - that was the majority of what I got on the palate and nose. A solid champagne, but lacking in uniqueness and I won't find myself seeking to purchase more (2044 views)
Tasted by MAXIMUM SATISFACTION on 2/6/2021: Corked. Very apparent on the nose while the palate come off less so. Dumped. Disgorged Dec 2019 (2095 views)
Tasted by redwhiteandrich on 11/8/2020 & rated 93 points: DISGORGEMENT DATE 110816
This bottle really hits the spot for me from Lassaigne. Solera-like bottling. Creamy, briochy with a touch of oxidation, limey acids.

Popped in celebration of 46! (1901 views)
Tasted by Topper on 10/15/2020 & rated 91 points: Pleasant, easy drinking bubbly (1745 views)
Tasted by Harley1199 on 10/15/2020: Very dry 100% chardonnay elaboration with minimal sulfur addition. Now that disgorgement is recent, it does not make a big difference but its future is uncertain. On the nose is sparkling, full of nerve and full of red berries. On the palate it is creamy, even honeyed. Balanced and quite long. It's not bad at all.

Equilibrado y bastante largo. No está nada mal. (1756 views)
Tasted by jamescho on 5/22/2020 & rated 93 points: Great Complexity and nice bubble with Sushi (1970 views)

Champagne

Le Champagne (Le comité interprofessionnel du vin de Champagne) | Grandes Marques & Maisons de Champagne (Union des Maisons de Champagne)

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.
Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
