Community Tasting Notes (average 91.5 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 32 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by WineGuyDelMar on 4/21/2024 & rated 92 points: Decayed 90 minutes and drank with Pasta All’Amatriciana. Similar to previous notes but more rounded now. Still modern but very smooth and enjoyable. Red fruits dominate is a long finish. (871 views)
Tasted by KJD45$ on 4/5/2024 & rated 92 points: Floral notes on nose with ripe red fruit
Taste is leather cherry tobacco with a solid wall of tannins..leads to a tannic cherry finish that is quite drying.. good structured wine .. definitely a food wine
Very solid brunello and good QPR..
Lots of bottle time left on these (763 views)
Tasted by AB16 on 4/2/2024 & rated 94 points: I loved this wine. Balance, old, world, nose, and earth with ample fruit. Fantastic food beverage. (926 views)
Tasted by Janstan on 3/22/2024 & rated 91 points: Went well with goulash. (821 views)
Tasted by Arch57 on 1/13/2024 & rated 93 points: I had sampled this a couple of years ago via Coravin with no formal notes taken. Tonight my dear wife made an impromptu sausage and tortellini dinner in the pressure cooker and it just begged for an Italian wine.
I Coravined a couple more glasses using my aeration technique of holding the stream 18-24” from the glass. It worked as the wine was smooth and open for business! Cherries and forest mushroom notes with enough acidity to cut through the sausage and sauce dinner. We then popped the cork to finish the bottle. Lisini has been a go-to Brunello for years and this was fantastic as usual. (1283 views)
Tasted by WineGuyDelMar on 12/14/2023 & rated 92 points: Decanted 90 minutes. Very rounded, medium extraction, Old World nose but modern style. I feel these new Brunellos are good but not as good as earlier vintages. They are more soft now. Then again most wines are like this now. (1390 views)
Tasted by WineGuyDelMar on 11/24/2023 & rated 92 points: Decanted 45 minutes and drank along side a 2016 Zenato Amarone. Nice earthy, barnyard Old World nose. Tobacco, leather filled red fruits but subtle flavors. Medium/light mouthfeel but color was dark. Medium extraction. More of a finesse wine but good structure & balance. Easy to drink after the bigger Amarone. (1273 views)
Tasted by Plabella on 10/25/2023 & rated 95 points: Full body wine with dark fruit. Delicious Sangiovese concentrated and seamless. (1589 views)
Tasted by KJD45$ on 8/14/2023 flawed bottle: Corked (1670 views)
Tasted by MattMauldin on 6/25/2023 & rated 91 points: Decanted. Clear-ruby color with a slight amber hue at the edges. Leads with red plum & cherry on the nose, with additional aromas of blood orange, black tea, dried hibiscus, clove and turned soil, nicely profiled but somewhat fleeting in intensity. Richly textured on the palate, with ripe red fruit lifted with zesty orange citrus, along with cedar, baking spice, leather, earth and red floral depth. Expressive and broad on the palate with refined density, medium acidity and round ripe tannins, finishing with moderate length of zesty red fruit. (1737 views)
Tasted by Ajb on 4/15/2023 & rated 91 points: Barnyard earthiness with a lot to say. WBA (1884 views)
Tasted by Portland Seth on 4/4/2023 & rated 91 points: Really clean lines with bright red fruit showing good lift, leather, cedar, faint herbs and talc. Maybe a little too Modern but very elegant and pure. Probably too young but I don't see this improving wildly. (2144 views)
Tasted by Jon Harrison on 10/27/2022 & rated 91 points: (Imported by Skurnik, NY, NY).

Color: Medium-light ruby (barely). Orange-brick at the rim.

Nose: Moderate intense, cool, dried morello cherries, spice (clove), sl licorice, and smoky woodsiness. Pretty. And nice complexity out of a good glass (I'm using a Grassl Cru tonight).

Pal: Pow: Tart dried morello cherries! Good energy in the mouth. Decent concentration of flavor. I don't find this particularly tannic (in late 2022). The tannis are polished and fine. But it is lean in style and acids are high, per usual for Sangiovese. Med-full body. Mouth watering acidity. 14.5% alc. Tartrates at bottom of bottle (good).

Northern Italian red wines are of course more savory and high acid compared to new world wines (California, Australia, etc) or even the wines of southern Italy or France. And thank God for that. But 2015 is a great vintage in Tuscany. I was hoping for a little more color, concentration and... 'gras' (if you will) in this wine.

91 pts. Beautiful nose. Lean in the mouth. Needs food.

Tasted by Weinsre on 12/7/2021 & rated 93 points: Still very young but quite drinkable after sitting awhile. Should be excellent in a few years. (3288 views)
Tasted by MrTunaDavis on 10/25/2021 & rated 90 points: Double decanted for 3hrs.
Brought to a friends for birthday. Ate with pizza. Classic Brunello from a great vintage. Tannins not fully integrated even with the long-ish decant. Would wait another few years, but still drinking well now. (3445 views)
Tasted by SommTumDer on 10/19/2021 & rated 94 points: Dry, medium body, acidity nicely balanced with rounded tannins. Dark fruit like black cherry.

Had at I Sodi in NYC with prosciutto, arugula salad, fried pork chop and steak. (3440 views)
Tasted by CWilliam on 8/23/2021 & rated 92 points: Notes after 1.5 hour decant - it needed it - and was very tight in first 30 minutes after decanting. Dark red/black color. Nose was tight - dark cherry, leather, rosemary and burnt cherry. On palate, medium+ body, medium acidity/tannins and long finish. Palate was relatively consistent with the nose. After 2 hours or air it's a 92-93+ wine. Give it air if opening now.

Of 3 2015 BDMs tasted over the past few days, this was my least favorite - but that is relative - I enjoyed this. #1 = Mate - Il Falconaio, #2 = Capanna, followed by this one. All were good but interesting to see how this vintage ages long term given the heat. (3375 views)
Tasted by gsomers on 8/5/2021 & rated 89 points: After trying and falling in love with the 2015 Tenuta le Potazzine, we ventured out and acquired a dozen various Brunellos. We were underwhelmed by the 2015 Lisini effort. $50 seems a tad steep based on what we had. Nothing specific to either rave or bemoan. 89 seems fair since we did finish the bottle. (2925 views)
Tasted by SteelyMon on 1/29/2021 & rated 91 points: Must decant at least 3.5 hours to get where you want to be with this one. I have 400 young BDM in my new cellar, mostly 2013's and 2015's, and expecting good things. This was my best experience in last few months as I am tracking the maturation of my babies! (4315 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 11/26/2020: A little more cohesive than bottles tasted earlier this year. That said, I'm even more convinced to give this another year in the cellar before trying it again. Three years might be better. There's some enjoyment here - I get the purity and the place - but it's not speaking to me yet, i.e. somewhat anonymous, which is very atypical of Lisini's Brunello wine. Or any of their wines, for that matter. 14,5% abv. NR

Tasted by djarcara on 11/4/2020 & rated 92 points: Garnet brick color. Perfumed nose. Medium full body. Flavors of dark cherry, cassis, plum and a touch of tobacco. The wine is still very tannic and primary, but delightful nevertheless. An excellent example of classic Brunello. Easily has another 10+ years ahead of it. (3879 views)
Tasted by norton Levine on 10/28/2020 & rated 91 points: The Lisini 2015 Brunello di Montalcino shows muscle and brawn, filling out its full-bodied frame with plenty of dark fruit, spice, tar and smoke. If you like a more concentrated style of Sangiovese, this is your wine. It offers seamless harmony and sun-drenched intensity that all work very nicely in this classic and warm vintage. You can wait, or drink it in the near-term with a rack of lamb. (3535 views)

Tasted by Tim Heaton on 2/21/2020: 2015 Brunello di Montalcino, new releases (Montalcino centro): Benvenuto Brunello 2020, Montalcino

My second time with this, and this bottle is slightly more fresh. Medium bodied, with avg freshness, finish. I'm just not feeling it in this vintage, and this producer represents a good percentage of my cellar. Maybe revisit in 2-4 years. Good, but I'm not a buyer. recommended

Sangiovese

SANGIOVESE: (Pronounced "sahn-joh-vhe-se").
Sangiovese - Italy's claim to fame, the pride of Tuscany. Traditionally made, the wines are full of cherry fruit, earth, and cedar. It produces Chianti (Classico), Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montepulciano, Montefalco Rosso, and many others. Sangiovese is also the backbone in many of the acclaimed, modern-styled "Super-Tuscans", where it is blended with Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc) and typically aged in French oak barrels, resulting a wine primed for the international market in the style of a typical California cabernet: oaky, high-alcohol, and a ripe, jammy, fruit-forward profile.[16]

Semi-classic grape grown in the Tuscany region of Italy. Used to produce the Chianti and other Tuscan red wines. Has many clonal versions, two of which seem to predominate. The Sangiovese Grosso clone Brunello variety is used for the dark red, traditionally powerful and slow-maturing "Brunello di Montalcino" wine. The other is the Sangiovese Piccolo, also known under the historical synonym name Sangioveto, used for standard Chianti Classico DOC wines. Old vine derived wine is often used in the better versions, needing several years ageing to reach peak. A third clone, Morellino, is used in a popular wine blend with the same name found in the southern part of the province. Recent efforts in California with clones of this variety are very promising, producing medium-bodied reds with rich cherry or plumlike flavors and aromas. Among the available clonal versions are R6 and R7, derived from the Montalcino region of Italy, having average productivity/ripening and producing small berries on medium size clusters. R10 and R24 are well-recommended. R23, listed as deriving from the Emilia-Romagna region, has good vigor with medium-small clusters with earlier ripening. R102 derives from the Montepulciano region and reported to have average vigor with moderate productivity that results in higher sugar levels and good acidity from medium-small berries on medium-small clusters. Has synonym name of Nielluccio where grown in Corsica.
