Open for a party on a Saturday night, left most on my porch with a Saran Wrap + rubber band top (mid 30s temps) and FIVE days later I finished it. Honestly really good both times, but even better day 5. Leans more lemon and orange zest but it’s a softer acidity and there’s some lees-contacty bready notes to balance it. More strawberry and vanilla on day 5. Good QPR and plenty of runway ahead. (160 views) | | Tasted by 10xM on 3/11/2024 & rated 90 points: Drank at L'envol in Hong Kong. Lovely aromas of lemon and sugar. Fine bubbles Dry finish with a very slight sweetness. It went well with majority of the plates. (127 views) | | Tasted by Justin S on 9/8/2023: Really enjoyed this, very elegant and restrained wine, yet well integrated. (588 views) | | Tasted by IDKDavid on 2/25/2023 & rated 92 points: Light gold, with nice vibrant bubbles. Good freshness, some apples, lemon tart, a hint of toasty notes but not much. A touch of sweetness came through, but very balanced. Not bad at all for the price, exceeded my expectations. now 2016 base and disgorged mid 2021
Once again a rather muted and non expressive bouquet which slowly opens up into mineralics and hints of lemon.
But this time the palate is very impressive. I even fail to find a proper description. Mid palate has an incredible grape marshmellow candy core.
Dosage is very good too, overall feels nicely fruity sweety and should age well too.
This time I bought more so lets see how it evolves. 2014 base and degorged mid 2019.
At first no special impression on the bouquet... Maybe like pollen stamps from a flower
Taste is very nice... even difficult to express I dont feel a particular fruit aroma but there is some very juicy vivid sweetness... this has only 4.5g/l so very good phenolic ripeness it seems.
There is also some elegant autolytic character compared to some other more in your face growers.
Acidity seemed to be very mild but this is just the initial impression due to the ripe fruits.
After a bit time to mingle with oxygen the champagne seemed to become a bit less interesting maybe.
Now more minerality and the sweetness was gone and replaced by some moderate acidic counterpart.
Initially I wanted to purchase a lot of bottles for cellaring but now I am not sure how much it will benefit. It already seems quite round. The price might be the only issue here. If under 25€ go for it... if over then there might be some more complex ones out there (which might need some cellaring though).
But regardless of how this review may sound this is one of the most quaffable entry levels... I would have wished for a magnum or at least some more bottles! So keep that in mind when testing. (900 views) |

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.Champagne Grand CruChampagne |
