Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 85.8 pts. and median of 87 pts. in 49 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by NoWineWiz on 6/10/2015 & rated 86 points: As before, decent nose of fruit, but more nuanced plum & red berries, with some spice. Palate is earthy blackberries and less noticeable pepper than previously, and little tannins. (1171 views)
Tasted by mkotlarz on 4/20/2013 & rated 88 points: Surprisingly good, fresh red fruit, bright acidity. Drank a little colder than cellar temp. (2187 views)
Tasted by NoWineWiz on 1/11/2013 & rated 86 points: Decanted 1 hr. Decent nose of fruit - plum & raspberries, and spice. palate is brambly blackberries, tart cherries and eucalyptus. Noticeable pepper, but not as prominent as a few years ago, better integrated. (2202 views)
Tasted by Bumbanian on 9/2/2010: good riddance (3997 views)
Tasted by Bumbanian on 6/5/2010: No formal notes, but I actually found this bottle developed nicely with some air time. Some complexity and additional length showing after an hour or two. Unfortunately lost the second half of the bottle to a faulty vacuum cap. On bottle, will not treasur it but will look forward to seeing how it drinks. (4075 views)
Tasted by njAndrew on 4/10/2010 & rated 86 points: Olive, vanilla, dark fruit, pepper. Not bad at ~$10 but wouldn't buy again, so much out there to try. (2725 views)
Tasted by jmcmchi on 4/10/2010 & rated 85 points: Very much fruit forward bouquet; eucalyptus overtones quite noticeable on palate; can see why the reviews are very mixed (3257 views)
Tasted by alphabiotics on 3/9/2010 & rated 70 points: Tanzer 90 - wow this is the first time I can say I clearly do not understand what was seen here. This was my second visit to this wine and for me still undrinkable. The blend for me just does not work. Unbalanced. bitter and it deteriates further after a few hours. Purchased Nov 2009 and been in the cellar since and no improvement over the last bottle. Rare a bottle is abandoned but alas... clearly just not my cup of tea nor that of my guest! Still always fun to try something 'different'. (3166 views)
Tasted by Sakas on 2/17/2010 & rated 80 points: bottle variation? this one was a disappointment! thin and off balanced. (2638 views)
Tasted by wineward on 2/5/2010 & rated 86 points: Nose after 1 hour. Heavy olive on the nose. Brambly blackberry with more olive. Short finish. Better than I recall the last bottle. Very good. (2669 views)
Tasted by Sakas on 1/25/2010 & rated 88 points: no detailed notes, this peaked for me around 3 hours in decanter. (2828 views)
Tasted by heythatslife on 1/19/2010 & rated 84 points: Initial pepper attack is followed by prune, tar, possibly liquorice. A little overripe for me, and tails off weakly. Nevertheless, good QPR for the price I paid. (3227 views)
Tasted by Bumbanian on 1/19/2010 & rated 83 points: Smell: prunes, dark cherries, licorice, and a touch of dust.

Taste:prunes dominate the front end. Firm, slightly gritty tannins clamp down the back. Kind of harsh without redeeming complexity. This is much better than the last bottle I tried, but still just quaffable as a weekday wine. (2876 views)
Tasted by VanVino on 1/18/2010 & rated 91 points: Delicious! (3121 views)
Tasted by yonster24 on 1/17/2010: In line with the my note from 12/19, much better than my first bottle. NOt a fantastic wine, but great for the 10 bucks I paid. (2977 views)
Tasted by wineward on 1/9/2010 & rated 77 points: Popped and poured right after an oxidized Chardonnay...Flavors were funky. Shiraz + viognier is probably simply not my thing, but this wine was disjointed. Aussie jazziness and juiciness are present. Average. (3305 views)
Tasted by jeffu on 1/4/2010 & rated 88 points: I'd have to rate this higher than most, really liked how smooth it is. Full bodied, nice nose, fruit on the palate but with a nice balance. (3332 views)
Tasted by domo1944 on 12/30/2009: Good mouth-feel, nice flavor and color, medium intensity. Terrific buy at $10. (3315 views)
Tasted by DRod on 12/24/2009 & rated 79 points: One-note of ground black pepper on nose and palate. I happen to dislike ground black pepper, so this was a non-starter right off the bat. Not enough fruit to balance. (3457 views)
Tasted by RedLoverJim on 12/23/2009 & rated 87 points: Very interesting nose of buttered popcorn upon opening. After some air time, flavors of red fruit, but with some tangerine notes. Good quaffing wine, but nothing too sensational. (3384 views)
Tasted by jjlobi on 12/22/2009 & rated 87 points: Pepper........... (3376 views)
Tasted by jmull on 12/21/2009 & rated 88 points: Last of three bottles, and the best. This bottle had far better balance and acidity than the earlier two did. Same vibrant fruit, pepper and floral notes, but more in balance and refined, somehow. I'm wondering if travel shock had something to do with it? Perhaps I'll let all mail-order bottles sit for three weeks, minimum, in the future. (3406 views)
Tasted by tcfishler on 12/21/2009: Dark red. Penetrating bright red licorice and fruits, followed by flavors that are nicely dry for the genre. Somewhat ho-hum but it's still hard to come up with a specific criticism here. (3352 views)
Tasted by njAndrew on 12/21/2009 & rated 87 points: Popped and poured. A little coco and raisins on the nose. Dark cherries, medium body and a hint of pepper. Got much better as it sat in the glass, smoothed out and the fruit came through better. Not a bad QPR at the >$10 sale price and glad that I have two more for weeknight drinking. (3472 views)
Tasted by mmurry on 12/20/2009 & rated 87 points: The nose had a lot of pepper, along with black currant and cherry. It also had some floral undertones at the end. The palate was fairly smooth, with the same pepper, black currant and cherry flavors as the nose. It finished with some nice floral notes. (3351 views)
