Tasted by rmcnees on 7/17/2021 & rated 91 points: At our last tasting of this release, four years ago, I wrote, "At fifteen years, this is aging very nicely and still holding well within its drinking window. Consistent with earlier tasting notes, dark garnet color, full bodied, bright cedar, cinnamon spice, raspberry, and hint of mocha on a big, long silky smooth tannin finish."

Tasted by shaneajohnson on 10/4/2009: Seems to be fading pretty fast. I would drink these up. (3493 views)
Tasted by DrewG on 7/9/2009 & rated 88 points: Decanted one hour. Nice dark purple color with spicy/berry nose. with a smooth finish. Fruit is clean and pure. Not as much spice as when tasted from barrell. An enjoyable cab franc from a fun Napa vineyard (3629 views)
Tasted by VinoTx on 9/20/2007 & rated 88 points: Pretty straightforward but smooth and great fruit. (3601 views)
Tasted by otisabdul on 4/17/2007 & rated 89 points: Popped and poured. Dark purple color, with blue edges. Nice floral/berry nose. Supple and languid, with a smooth finish. Fruit is clean and pure. Not as much spicy pepper as it was exhibiting a couple years ago. Lacking some complexity, but a very enjoyable cab franc that clearly shows off its Napa personality. (3125 views)
Tasted by otisabdul on 9/17/2005 & rated 88 points: Purchased from the winery for $45. A spicy, peppery cab franc, with vanilla-tinged blackberry and rhubarb flavors. A little rugged right now. Will probably smooth out with another 1-2 years of cellar time. (2407 views)
Tasted by OneLastSyrah on 6/4/2004: Napa-Noma Trip: Barrel Sample - Violets, toasted sugar, sweet raspberry fruit. A bit firm in the finish. This was a French oak barrel. I would have liked to explore their lots of Cabernet Franc more, but time was limited. (1357 views)

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Wines & Vines article

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
