Tasted by flussier on 5/15/2014 & rated 87 points: Robe de couleur: Grenat; Bouquet: Cerise, Framboisé, terre humide, anis, chocolat noir; Corsé; Arômes en bouche: Chocolat noir, cerise, fruit rouge, prune, 3 ans en cellier, a decanter 30min (1590 views)
Tasted by mchiew on 10/20/2013 & rated 89 points: dark purple in color.

cedar, hint of licorice nose. medium body, elegant and fine finishing. (2136 views)
Tasted by ILarsen on 6/4/2013 & rated 85 points: I am lacking balance - the wine is a bit sticky - you get a lot of very matured dark fruit - some peber - the fruit is not very well integrated into the wine (2795 views)
Tasted by OmiyaDrinker on 3/18/2013 & rated 85 points: Dark and brooding. Crushed seaweed with a huge dollop of melted nougat on the back end. Very distinctive and interesting. (2879 views)
Mums (3820 views)
(3341 views)
Tasted by le Noble on 11/5/2011 & rated 90 points: Excellent value for money (3346 views)
Tasted by akropp on 10/29/2011 & rated 86 points: Easy to drink red. Very mellow. (1212 views)
Tasted by Epic Tale on 2/21/2011 & rated 89 points: color: mid-purple; nose: raspberry, oak, and cinnamon -- faint but pleasant; taste: light-to-medium mouth feel, bright fruit taste, clean finish and smooth peppery tannins; overall: very nice (probably the best of the five or six nero d'avolas I've tried!), understated but also polished and nuanced, decent QPR at $13 and worth buying more of at that price (3491 views)
Tasted by pete s. on 11/29/2010 & rated 87 points: Pop and pour. Interesting aromatics showing wild flowers, red licorice, and a little funky feet. Very silky mouthfeel with focused cherry and berry fruit with some red licorice flavors that glide down the middle of the palate. Medium acid and integrated tanninis round out this med-bodied package. A little cedar and french oak comes through on the finish. After a couple of hours, the fruit faded a bit and some heat became evident.

Day#2 - Fruit is more pronounced but lacking on the finish - somewhat bitter and short. Great mouthfeel though. (3666 views)
Tasted by huse on 11/17/2010 & rated 89 points: Authentic Nero d’Avola wine (100 percent) that was aged for four months in Allier and Tronçais barriques. Intense ruby-red in color with black reflections and a powerful and aromatic bouquet of wild berries, licorice, dark chocolate and notes of roasted chestnuts. Good concentration of dark forest fruits and sweet spices on the palate, supported by an animating acid structure and noticeable but well-integrated tannins. Extended length. To be decanted one hour prior to tasting. Drink it now and over the next 2-3 years. A whole lot of wine for the money.

Tasted by jhannah27 on 8/19/2010 & rated 86 points: This wine takes me back to our trip to Siciliy. Soft, clean nero d'avola fruit here. Simple, but very enjoyable and would go great with pizza. No brainer for $12. (3902 views)
Tasted by AlexGarner on 6/5/2010 & rated 94 points: Gaia and Kir-Yianna Greek Wines and Italian value wines (Prince Wine Store - Bank Street): Fabulous dark forest fruits on the nose with a silky palette of concentrated fruit, soft berries and a delicate dancing tannins. Cracking value as well. (4521 views)
Tasted by AlexGarner on 6/5/2010 & rated 94 points: After tasting this today, I had a bottle with a stonking great lamb casserole - cooked for 4 hours and with built in feta! This really is an amazing value Italian wine. Buy some now while you still can. (3821 views)

Nero d'Avola

The Nero d'Avola can be considered the red grape variety most typical and representative of Sicily. The synonym Calabrese is a Italianization the dialect name, "Calaurisi", which literally means "grape (drop) of Avola (aurisi)". In one form as in the other, the constant reference to the town of Avola, municipality in the province of Syracuse, indicates the selection of the variety by the farmers in that area. From there it spread to other towns in the Val di Noto, Ragusa and Caltagirone in, and only recently in Sicily. The vineyards most suitable when grown using traditional techniques affinatesi (sic) in history to face the torrid climate of the area without irrigation, can have the greatest red wines for aging. The aromatic expression, centered on the richness of ripe dark fruit, reveals its mark more authentic with the notes of the organ and sun-dried tomatoes, linked by a broad Mediterranean brackish. Corresponds to a thick, sweet mouth, covered by a lively acidity that always ends with a tasty grip, particularly long lasting.
