Tasted by Paul S on 5/6/2012 & rated 91 points: Dinner at Giant Garoupa (Yuan Wei Deep-Sea Garoupa, Serangoon Road): I enjoyed this quite a lot more than the last time I tried it. Drank alongside a good 2008 Chassagne 1er Cru, this came across as a lot more open and ready to drink, if not quite blessed with the same depth and complexity of its French cousin. The bottle may not have been entirely clean, smelling as it did of cheese, epoisses almost, on the first pour, and slowly opening into earthy, funky aromas wrapped around a core of white fruited notes and a waft of white flowers on the bouquet. The palate was very approchable though. It had a very dry, minerally attack, with quite a stern backbone giving fine shape to nuanced flavours of pears and white fruit laced with stony mineral, more funky earth accents and gentle spicy notes. I found this very finely balanced indeed, with well-integrated acidity leading the wine into a lively finish with plenty of bright acidity that made the wine a good foil for seafood. While neither the most complex nor compelling, this was nevertheless quite a delicious drink. A solid effort. (3080 views)
Tasted by Paul S on 3/21/2012 & rated 89 points: Supper and Drinks at Deep Sea Garoupa (Yuan Wei Deep-Sea Garoupa, Serangoon Road): Interesting stuff. This was a decent little Chardonnay coming out of Tuscany. The nose was a bit tight, with smoky mineral notes surrounding touches of ripe lemons and green apples, maybe a hint of flowers. Not very developed, but pretty nice. The palate had a nice round richness to it, with a sweet yellow fruited attack and midpalate, and a slightly honeyed finish where more smoky spice drifted out. Fleshy, but well balanced, maybe a bit soulless, but this was very pleasant nonetheless and it should improve with time. A decent effort. (2844 views)
Tasted by EleonoraScholes on 10/27/2011: At first not entirely clean nose, but this goes away with aeration. Candied citruses.Palate is fresh, mid-weight, notes of citrus zest, short finish. Technically well made, but lacks individuality. 16.5/20 points. Chardonnay blind tasting with Steven Spurrier in Moscow (3193 views)
Tasted by Alex H on 7/29/2011 & rated 86 points: White flowers , oils and some white manuka honey. Bright and glowing. With time more walnuts and cream comes thru. Good streak of limey acidity with salinity. (2679 views)
