Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 86.4 pts. and median of 87 pts. in 40 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Sheldog on 12/7/2015 & rated 84 points: About 3-1/2 years have passed since drinking the first bottle. It has softened out some and was better than the previous one. It is still a pretty jammy fruit bomb. (1111 views)
Tasted by merryberry on 8/13/2013 & rated 83 points: Semi-translucent ruddy garnet. Jammy strawberry, cola, and earth nose. Medium bodied, raspberries, pepper, bing cherries, a few grainy tannins, low acid that disappeared by day 3, and a slightly sweet medium length finish. Relatively well made fruit bomb, I guess, but not my style. (2793 views)
Tasted by tfharris on 3/25/2013 & rated 88 points: Decent blend, mostly zin. It was better on day 2. (3281 views)
Tasted by tfharris on 9/19/2012 & rated 88 points: good but not as good as the last bottle. Flattened out pretty quickly. (4008 views)
Tasted by Parnelli on 9/9/2012 & rated 89 points: Oh I wish I had more of this! A great blend with lots of fruit but not a bomb. Nice before and with food. (3749 views)
Tasted by WineJunkieWest on 9/5/2012 & rated 86 points: Fruit forward. Some harshness mid-palate. Good but not great. Excellent price point. (3301 views)
Tasted by Dan & Krista Stockman on 9/3/2012 & rated 90 points: Huge structure, lots of fruit, big, big yummy wine, but not a lot of distinguishable flavors - just a ton of fruit all mashed together. That being said, for the price it's hard to beat, and we'll definitely be trying more. (2126 views)
Tasted by tfharris on 9/2/2012 & rated 89 points: Needs decanting for 30 mins. Then, it was smooth and delicious. (1796 views)
Tasted by Sheldog on 8/18/2012 & rated 81 points: Take this review with a grain of salt since we drank this at a northern Michigan cabin out of plastic juice glasses. Even though this was an inexpensive wine I had really much higher expectations based on a review I had read before buying. The nose was weak but had some black cherry and wood. I didn't get the smokiness I was promised. The taste was quite acidic and hot on the tonge. The finish was long but was not what I would call pleasant. I have one more bottle and will try again out of a more suitable drinking vessel. Also, as most wines in this price range, it has a synthetic cork. (1442 views)
Tasted by p2002 on 7/26/2012 & rated 88 points: Solid 88pt wine. Enjoyable right upon opening, obvious black fruit mixed with pepper/spice fruit on the nose. A little hot on both the nose and palate on opening. I look forward to seeing how this wine develops over the next day or so.
I only bought two bottles of this wine, for 11+ a bottle I may have to pick up another half a case. (1985 views)
Tasted by KVM on 7/19/2012 & rated 89 points: very darrk. Tight... wait for 24 hours and it shows lconcentrated black fruit on nose and palate, plush and quaffable. (1660 views)
Tasted by Parnelli on 7/12/2012 & rated 89 points: This field blend is sooooooooooooo good! Lots of dark bramble fruit and nice balance. (1737 views)
Tasted by Parnelli on 6/27/2012 & rated 88 points: Lots of good things going on with this wine. Yeah, it's not an ager, but it sure is good with or without food. Lots of dark fruit, nice tannins and balanced. (1797 views)
Tasted by tfharris on 6/14/2012 & rated 87 points: Good fruit and a great value. (1706 views)
Tasted by yeastbeast on 6/12/2012 & rated 85 points: Second bottle, enjoyed over several days with various meals. Big fruit, spice, modest oak. An easy-drinking quaffer. Great QPR. (1933 views)
Tasted by tfharris on 6/7/2012 & rated 88 points: Good, consistent. Seemed a little light and tart this time around (1675 views)
Tasted by M/M Stretch on 5/26/2012: Good, not great, wine. Fine for everyday dinner accompaniment. (1830 views)
Tasted by yeastbeast on 5/14/2012 & rated 83 points: Decanted for about 30 minutes, served with fusilli, kale and prosciutto. Light purple color, floral nose. Fruit-forward, brambly, cinnamony, medium-bodied with little oak and nothing much on the tail end. A straightforward California table wine with some fun character but no cellar potential. Drink now and enjoy. (2087 views)
Tasted by apnetmedic on 3/23/2012 & rated 84 points: Plum, pepper.. A bit thin otherwise but doesn't finish like a "cheap red". Not sure if this is as much of a hidden gem as other CH's. (2102 views)
Tasted by brigcampbell on 3/9/2012 & rated 84 points: Quite the blend, little bit of everything. There is a lot of cracked black pepper with a ton of clove. Very noticeable, if you are "spice adverse" then stay away. (1955 views)

2010 Cameron Hughes Lot 313

Vintage: 2010
Appellation: California
Grape: 71% Zinfandel, 10% Petite Sirah, 10% Syrah, 9% Carignane
Alcohol by volume: 14.5%
Production: 6,000 cases
Drink/Hold: Now and through 2017

Taste: Lot 313 has a wonderfully smoky nose interwoven with blueberry, raspberry, and kirsch. The palate is deeply concentrated with silky tannins and a rich, multi-faceted juicy finish. With framing acidity and a bold backbone playing off of the lively fruit, this wine is affable while showing great sophistication.

Cameron Confidential: After the enormous success of Lot 244 California Field Blend due to its style of soft elegance and incredible approachability, we partnered with a great grower in Lodi to produce a top notch Field Blend for the growing demand. This wine is predominantly Zinfandel with some Petit Sirah blended in, giving it a gorgeous color and wonderful tannic backbone. We also added some Syrah and Carignane for complexity and depth, while maintaing that classic 'Field Blend' style. If you're into a playful, full-bodied red with lush fruit, this wine will knock your socks off.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
