Tasted by sboswell on 10/27/2020: In 2020 it is still outstanding. Color bold, taste sophisticated. What a great bottle for a 25 th anniversary! (1232 views)
Tasted by sboswell on 10/27/2020 & rated 100 points: Outstanding on our anniversary! Rich colorful and tasty! (1358 views)
Tasted by wine4lux on 9/13/2020 & rated 90 points: Color has started to fade, good black fruit profile with a nice structure to it, moderate finish. A very nice example of a fully mature Napa red. (1344 views)
Tasted by miadelt on 5/25/2019 & rated 94 points: From magnum, decanted 1 hour. Mature but not old, smooth tannins, complex flavors. Really enjoyed. Drink now as this has likely peaked. (1622 views)
Tasted by cowtownguy on 7/22/2017 flawed bottle: Likely just a bit past peak, however still good structure and fruit. Tannins have nearly disappeared. It does fade over through the night. Drink if you still have it, still a very nice wine. (2237 views)
Tasted by beezer6 on 3/23/2015 & rated 91 points: Opened at Brad's for Brill's going away party.
Plump and ripe. Still plenty of life. Spicy brighter red berries, slight candied elements. Nice. (3111 views)
Tasted by tubeman on 8/11/2013 & rated 90 points: Drinking very well.... (4072 views)
Tasted by blash on 3/2/2013 & rated 90 points: This was the fourth time I've had this wine and the first in three years or so. Still a good wine, but I waited too long to drink that last bottle. Still has the upfront fruit followed by some good herb flavors. Time to focus on the later vintages. (4374 views)
Tasted by RWine on 2/5/2013 & rated 85 points: Unfortunately I think this bottle was past its prime. Not much fruit and sour finish. Left in decanter for 2 days and then enjoyed it. (4708 views)
Tasted by beezer6 on 11/3/2012 & rated 92 points: Saturday Tasting Group (Knightsbridge Wine Shop (Northbrook, IL)): Really liked this wine. When tasted blind I thought this was a culty California Cab.
Super aromatic. Pungent, funky ripe and very up front. nice wine.
Lower acidity and pretty qualities. Super heady and voluptuous. Delicious styling with some pepper.
Tasty. (3503 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 11/3/2012 & rated 85 points: Another Saturday at Knightsbridge - mostly blind (Northbrook, IL): Tasted double blind. Very fat and ripe, a little extreme for my preferences. Very simple, simple, showing some heat. Enough firmness that it avoids seeming flabby. (4554 views)
Tasted by MrD on 6/30/2012 & rated 90 points: Nice as usual. Better on day 2. Not huge but a nice balance of flavor with some mild tanin. (1903 views)
Tasted by mwinterod on 6/23/2012 & rated 91 points: Tobacco and smoke, deep and dark. Calls for steak or lamb. (1683 views)
Tasted by MrD on 5/2/2012 & rated 90 points: Nice with sort of an herbal or even annise finish. (1733 views)
Tasted by Achim on 2/24/2012 & rated 91 points: Wow! Let it breath some! (1981 views)
Tasted by RJandGB on 2/5/2012 & rated 87 points: May be past its prime but does open up nicely and shows more fruit. Deep color. Not much nose - more alcohol than fruit. I think we kept this too long. (1762 views)
Tasted by MrD on 9/6/2011 & rated 90 points: Enjoyable on labor day. (2123 views)
Tasted by Watchaholic on 7/5/2011 & rated 89 points: WOW, very good bottle, but definitely time to drink. Thick currant taste with smokey almost gamey notes. (2224 views)
Tasted by MrD on 5/19/2011 & rated 90 points: Had with a ribeye tonight. Terrific. Nice with a light dried fruit flavor. Rasin. Mild tannins. Long finish with maybe a little bitterness. (2241 views)
Tasted by rmgambrel on 2/12/2011 & rated 91 points: Nice fruit and very smooth with tannins very muted. Well integrated and low acid. Muted nose at first but with about 45-60 minutes it opened up nicely. Tasted with NY Strip off the grill - very well paired. Seems to be at the peak or maybe a little past as the finish was a little short but pleasant. (2515 views)
Tasted by seanness on 8/8/2010 & rated 94 points: So smooth! (3064 views)
Tasted by meatbomb013 on 3/10/2010 & rated 94 points: This has really come alive in the last 12 months. The first few bottles seemed very simple and light bodied. Yesterday's bottle was a real gem, with attack of dark fruit, minimal tannins and a long graceful finish. Only have 1 left, so will probable hold on to it for a Elevage vertical tasting in a few years. (2927 views)
Tasted by johnnyo on 12/31/2009 & rated 94 points: Stellar just like the previous bottle! (3071 views)
Tasted by schnittle on 12/25/2009 & rated 92 points: WOW. Just great. Had with the prime rib. A great pairing. Wonderful aromas and intense flavors. A great example of Stags Leap blend.

Tasted by johnnyo on 11/25/2009 & rated 94 points: Wow! This is a great wine! There is a lot going on in this wine, highly layered flavors of red cherry, currant, plum, tobacco and cedar topped with a very long finish. Superb! (3154 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
