Tasted by OTTnMIA on 6/19/2013 & rated 93 points: Fantastic bottle of wine! Big red fruit with a huge influence of Tuscan terroir. Not sure I would have pegged this as a pure Merlot without having known that; reminded me of some Sangiovese blends from the region, though very fruit-forward. Had a saline-like minerality to it that was really intriguing. The fruit pruned a bit after about 40mins of being open, but was delicious from start to finish. I'd buy more of this in a heartbeat!  Tasted by Motz on 6/1/2013 & rated 95 points: Possibly the best Merlot bottling I have ever tasted that doesn't say Chateau Pavie on the label. Drinks like a high end right bank Bordeaux, but with Tuscan terroir. Stunning juice! Red fruits and Mediterranean cooking spices complement a terroir driven nose and palate. Fine, Rutherford dust-like minerality delivers a complete mouthfeel. The wine shows great balance, wonderful subtelties, and countless layers. Discreet, yet powerful! Perfect oak treatment. Will hold for a good while. 94-95. (1824 views)

Merlot

Merlot is a dark blue–colored wine grape variety, that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines. The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of merle, the French name for the blackbird, probably a reference to the color of the grape. Its softness and "fleshiness", combined with its earlier ripening, makes Merlot a popular grape for blending with the sterner, later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon, which tends to be higher in tannin.
