Tasted by Member 592 on 10/10/2023: Still quite good. I just waited for too long. Hope to re-find this producer again. (86 views)
Tasted by QWL on 1/14/2014 & rated 90 points: Similar experience to previous reviewer: purchased and tasted in Nov 2011, it was well-structured but fairly closed. It has now come into its prime. Deep brick color at edge, pleasant cedar notes on the nose. Moderate sediment, should be decanted. Classic Nebbiolo flavors on the palate, remarkably full and well-balanced for an entry-level Nebbiolo. Seems unlikely to improve with further bottle age, but should hold for a few more years.  Tasted by esb on 12/25/2013 & rated 91 points: This has come together since my last note two years ago. Intense aroma and flavor and perfect in the mouth. Now. Serious, rich Nebbiolo. (1601 views)
Tasted by esb on 12/8/2011 & rated 88 points: Slight aroma/flavor intensity disconnect with the aroma several steps behind the strong flavors. The nose is pretty with no primary fruit and some developing, but not fully developed, integrated tar and slight orange. The flavor is mostly tar and delicious. It's rich and together in the mouth but still finishes with medium polished tannins. For my palate it's in its early drinking window with upside. Overall, extracted, serious, complete, pure, nice wine and thankfully not cooked. (2323 views)

Flavio Roddolo

Flavio Roddolo is one of the last remaining truly genuine wine-growers in Piedmont. The 20.000 bottles he produces annually in the Bricco Appiani hill outside of Monforte are the work of one man deeply attached to his land, who knows and respects each one of his vines. The 6 hectares of vineyards have not been chemically treated for 40 years, following biodynamic ideas before it became fashionable. Roddolo uses only indigenous yeasts, does not clarify nor filters. His wines are a reflection of the Monforte terroir and of the man who makes them: introverted, brooding and intense, with patience they reveal a rich, unique and rewarding personality.

Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.

Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.

"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.

Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.

Alba

Consorzio di Tutela Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe e Roero

Alba is a town and comune of Piedmont, Italy, in the province of Cuneo. It is considered the capital of the hilly area of Langhe, and is famous for the white truffle, peach and wine production. Piedmont is in the Northwestern region of Italy, bordering France and Switzerland. Piedmont is predominantly a plain where the water flows from the Swiss and French Alps to form the headwaters of the Po river. The major wine producing areas are in the southern portion of the region in the hills known as the "Langhe". Here the people speak a dialect that is 1/3 French and 2/3 Italian that portrays their historical roots. Their cuisine is one of the most creative and interesting in Italy. Nebbiolo is the King grape here, producing Barolo and Barbaresco. In addition, the Barbera and Dolcetto are the workhorse grapes that produce the largest quantity of wine. Piedmont is predominantly a red wine producing area. There are a few whites made in Piedmont, and the Moscato grape produces a large volume of sweet, semi-sweet and sparkling wines as well.
