Community Tasting Notes (average 90.6 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 29 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by randwise on 12/25/2015 & rated 98 points: Big, jammy, fruity, dark and intense. Very lush and complex. I was worried that I held onto it too long, but it did not disappoint. (3807 views)
Tasted by markyc on 2/10/2014 & rated 89 points: Our last bottle. Rats! No meal, just a weekend sipper. Super fruity as expected. Full, chewy mouth-feel. Wonderful aroma. Sticks to the glass. We keep this for those times when we want something "over the top" and this lived up to our expectations. Gotta find more. (5990 views)
Tasted by cnr128 on 11/10/2013 & rated 86 points: My, oh my. This is one big jammy Zin. Berries galore, a bit of cocoa, soft tannins and baking spices on the finish. If you like 'em jammy, this one is for you. I'd let it set for an hour after opening or decant, but drink up because it will be flat on day 2. (6335 views)
Tasted by sipnwine on 9/5/2013 & rated 91 points: Drank this over the course of 3 nights and really enjoyed it. Well worth the price. Wouldn't mind getting some more (6998 views)
Tasted by FandL on 6/4/2013 & rated 90 points: This wine is full bodied, but I wouldn't call it a fruit bomb. Its got some complexity, structure, and does a reasonable job in masking the alcohol. A great value Zin. (7343 views)
Tasted by Oak Ridge Winery on 5/28/2013: This is not your everyday wine. A big flavorful Zinfandel from Lodi’s half to century year-old vines. Mature round tannins accenting generous raspberry chocolate, mocha and spice. This zinfandel is truly a delectable expression of Lodi’s signature terroir. (4046 views)
Tasted by markyc on 5/4/2013 & rated 89 points: Big jammy fruit-bomb with loads of blackerries and blueberries backed up with some light spice and tar. This was a sipper on a sunny Saturday afternoon - not with a meal. Not necessarily an every day wine, but on those rare occasions when you want something spectaculerly overkill, this is the thing. Wonderful. (2517 views)
Tasted by PJMS on 1/5/2013 & rated 100 points: This wine, though overly sweet for some palates, is one of great complexity and uniqueness. The nose yields supple dark fruits and notes of red raspberry accented by a touch of sweet oak. On the palate this wine's fruit bomb explodes, throwing forth a number of classic Zinfandel characteristics. A jammy (in all senses of the word) purple and dark red profile with undertones of spice box, mocha and a striking bit of vanilla from an apparent American Oak aging dance beautifully on the palate, performing each one of their acts separately with perfect timing. The finish is long and smooth with the round mouthfeel carrying throughout. This wine, unlike most, gives a pleasant surprise at the very end of the finish. In fact, the flavor actually changes to tart black cherry that lingers for only a second or two before fading into the next sip. My astounding rating of this wine has not been given lightly, in fact, despite its sweetness, I would describe this as one of the best Zinfandel flavor profiles I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. I recommend that you allow your bottle to breathe for about 30 min before tasting. Drink now-2015 (2648 views)
Tasted by Dave H. on 12/28/2012 & rated 86 points: Not a big fan of this overly sweet, candied Zin. Won't buy again. (2016 views)
Tasted by BobMilton on 12/4/2012 & rated 89 points: Good fruit, smooth, on the simple side. Opened up more the second night, so you might want to decant this. (2260 views)
Tasted by Athenasw on 11/18/2012 & rated 97 points: Good nose but the taste was far better. Jammy, earthy, full bodied and velvety smooth finish. (2410 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 10/6/2012 & rated 85 points: 2012 LOCA Uncorked: The Best of Lodi California Wines (Pavilion by the Bay, Treasure Island, San Francisco, California): Dark ruby color; baked berry, roasted black fruit nose; baked berry, roasted black fruit, berry jam palate; medium-plus finish 85+ points (3805 views)
Tasted by Baron Slick on 9/2/2012 & rated 88 points: Midnight purple with violet rim; intense, layered, and concentrated, toasty and chunky with densely-packed blackberries and blueberries, boysenberry and cassis; filled with Christmas spice and smoky elements, notes of tar, cayenne, and espresso with licorice woven throughout; a touch of heat on the finish. Very good. (2510 views)
Tasted by Steve Jones on 8/10/2012: I don't know how to adequately rate this wine. It is a huge wine. The flavor is so deep and intense that it lingers for a long time on the palate. It brings mostly raspberry and lots of cherry and blackberry and strawberry and spice and tannins and mocha and cocoa and more.98 points at the California state fair this year, double gold. Is it a "real" 98 point wine? No. It's a fruit bomb with candy-like flavors of sorts, but for $17-18 it's an enjoyable one and it is not as disgustingly bomb-ish as, say, Molly Dooker. I enjoyed it yet it was disturbingly intense, if that makes sense. It's made by Oak Ridge Winery in Lodi that makes the truly awful Maggio line of supermarket wines. I liked this wine, I must admit, yet I am not sure I would buy it again. Had it with beef fajitas. Nice pairing with the spice. (4010 views)
Tasted by Dan & Patti on 10/19/2011 & rated 89 points: Fruit, candy nose. Earth on palate (3929 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
