Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 89.6 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 92 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by redz on 1/7/2023 & rated 92 points: Followed a 2013 Herman Story, central cali syrah; going from tar and bacon to cherry and chocolate. Rich, smooth, and tasty, with no sign of fading. Some wines just come to life with age. PNP. Amazing price point. (377 views)
Tasted by Alaskawino on 11/3/2020 & rated 92 points: Beautiful matured Shiraz. A bit bright but mainly balanced fruit and spice. Palate is black cherry cassis with cedar. I wish I had a lot more. (982 views)
Tasted by Bam_Man on 3/24/2017 & rated 90 points: My last bottle from a half-case purchased back in 2011. This continues to drink very nicely. Maybe slightly past its peak now - showing less fruit, but still quite elegant and complex for a Barossa Shiraz. Displays excellent depth and focus on the mid-palate. Deftly balanced, with a vibrant acidity and attractive notes of caramel, vanilla and spice on the long, polished finish. Delicious. 90+

Tasted by joet626 on 9/20/2016 & rated 92 points: Outstanding. Nice spice on this. Loads of dark fruit flavors. Really good (3414 views)
Tasted by Larahargrave on 1/18/2016 & rated 91 points: Bought this in 2010 for $11 when I worked at a Nola restaurant. Thought it would be cool to see how it aged. 6 years later and wow. Drinks like a Pax Syrah from Obsidian ridge or even a Lewis Syrah. Lush, soft tannins and milk chocolate (3931 views)
Tasted by Tpmess on 5/14/2015 & rated 91 points: rich and lush, some spice with chocolate and dark berry flavors (4283 views)
Tasted by df1962 on 11/9/2014 & rated 90 points: PnVnD let air for 3hrs. Dense saturated purple black with violet to clear rim. Very expressive nose of blueberry pie and vanilla with a touch of smoke. Medium weight with ripe tannins. Black and blue fruits on the attack with a bit of bracing pomegranate acidity touch of backing spices add some complexity. Big but not flabby. Went well with prime rib. (4478 views)
Tasted by Cgallivan on 10/9/2014 & rated 88 points: Just another OK Aussie Shiraz. Good fruit, very forward. Very thick and medium finish. (2841 views)
Tasted by joet626 on 9/7/2014 & rated 92 points: Very good. What I expect in a great Aussie Shiraz. Lots of spice and black pepper. Smooth and a great, long finish. (2558 views)
Tasted by TallMikeWine on 8/8/2014 & rated 88 points: All chocolate and plums when I stuck my nose in the decanter. And then, it kept going. Not so much chocolate, maybe a hint of root beer, oddly. Super ripe for sure. Glad I gave it some air, it improved with time in the decanter. Good price to value, gladly drink it with spicy food, like I did tonight. (2192 views)
Tasted by drbill on 4/26/2014: this is a fabulous shiraz that is quite elegant, much more finesse than the typical jammy over extracted shiraz that I am used to. it emphasizes nicely balanced earth notes and chocolate to go along with the typical big and bold spicy fruits. medium to full body. I enjoyed this a lot more than any recent Australian shiraz that I have had. (2506 views)
Tasted by patsox on 2/5/2014 & rated 92 points: Rich and intense - no pretensions here. But it's also not awkward or exaggerated. Interesting smoky/charcoal component, too. What Aussie shiraz is supposed to be, in all its glory. (1956 views)
Tasted by OlegE on 7/30/2013 & rated 90 points: Australian magic. Different kind of stuff. There is nothing like that on any other continent. Sweet, heavy, hot, insanely flavorful, fruits (mostly black cherries and sweet black currant), cinnamon and tobacco, dark and dense. I was looking for something like than for some time, after I accidentally tasted one Australian wine with similar character. This is quite an adventure to drink something like that. A little bit too much of everything to my taste. Hard to find food pairing. (2406 views)
Tasted by Bam_Man on 7/19/2013 & rated 92 points: Consistent with my note from 14 months ago. Very, very impressive all around. Beautiful, powerful aromas of plums, vanilla and flowers on the nose. Full-bodied, but not jammy or overdone. Intense flavors of blackberries, cherries and vanilla, perfectly complemented by a lively acidity. The long, smooth finish contains notes of tar and licorice along with a chalky minerality. Polished, complex and delicious.

Tasted by THF49 on 4/21/2013 & rated 90 points: average Australian barossa shiraz; limited berry and limited overall bouquet (2464 views)
Tasted by Blunschis on 3/10/2013 & rated 90 points: Intense, fruity Wine. (2324 views)
Tasted by Blunschis on 2/14/2013 & rated 86 points: Good fruity vine, low tannin, balanced vine (2189 views)
Tasted by Ctaylor5 on 12/16/2012 & rated 90 points: Fruit on the nose, full-bodied and delicious. Fruit forward with a nice finish (2134 views)
Tasted by rarchbold on 10/18/2012 & rated 90 points: Jammy fruits on the nose. Blackberry primarily on the tongue with other balck fruits and cherry. Long smooth finish. Excellent quality for the price (2324 views)
Tasted by cheetadad on 10/3/2012 & rated 90 points: - Brick color. This wine is definitely better on day 2. First day taste could best be described as linear. Layers appearing in sequence. The next day it sings. Fruit and tannins in harmony. Great for the value and wish I could find some more. (2194 views)
Tasted by mutantwine on 8/27/2012 & rated 86 points: Good budget Shiraz. Not as jammy as most Australien shiraz, at this price. (2295 views)
Tasted by Sid_Mac on 7/21/2012 & rated 89 points: Best Shiraz I've had. Didn't think a Shiraz could taste like this: restrained but still quite flavorful. (2402 views)
Tasted by TBA on 5/27/2012 & rated 90 points: Starts with sweet berry and vanilla aromas with underlying savory blueberry note. Palate starts with lively tart red fruits then drifts into oak and dark fruit, then tannins grip and hold the fruit tight for a long finish. Very dynamic wine. On day two, improved a bit, like liquid blueberry pie. Yummy, The only detractors are that the fruit is quite sweet and finish is bit hot. Overall very good to excellent. (2465 views)
Tasted by Bam_Man on 5/12/2012 & rated 91 points: A very, very nice Barossa Shiraz that satisfies, but doesn't go over the top. The nose is a very interesting combination of berries, spice, vanilla and flowers. On the palate, this is rich and full-bodied, offering a tart, juicy mouthful of dark berry and plum flavors. The finish is long and complex, with notes of spice and oak along with a hint of roasted meat. More than the typical Barossa fruit bomb and terrific QPR at under $15.

Tasted by cwiebe on 4/23/2012 & rated 92 points: This wine continues to amaze at the price. Really balanced shiraz, that has a lot in common with a good Bordeaux blend. (2568 views)
