Community Tasting Notes (average 89.9 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 21 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Laurent73 on 8/28/2020 & rated 91 points: Still shows lots of tropical fruits on the nose. Nice lemony tones on the palate, starting to loose its power and fading a bit. Agree with previous comment, suggest not holding any longer. (1054 views)
Tasted by Jeff Leve on 5/4/2020 & rated 91 points: Fully mature, the blend of white peach, lemon peel and hints of pineapple shine through nicely. Deepening in color, with loads of honeysuckle, and crisp, sweet, yellow citrus in the finish, there is no reason to hold this any longer. (2277 views)
Tasted by Paul D on 3/13/2019 & rated 92 points: 1/1, good cork.
Pale/medium gold. Nose is complex showing pineapple, spice - quite fresh with a touch of creamy vanilla. Medium - medium/full bodied, pineapples again, lightly spicy, touch of nettle, some creamy vanilla breadth, lovely vibrant acidity, good length dry, lightly grippy finish showing pineapple and ending with a touch of spice. Complex, well balanced, enjoyable, drinking well. (1453 views)
Tasted by riskun on 6/22/2018 & rated 93 points: Bright lemon yellow. Rich nose, pineapple stone. Entry is rich and buttery with a good weight throughout. Finishes with a nice acidity (1690 views)
Tasted by Gece on 4/6/2018: Wine gums and smoky oak. Feels young, but structure isn't to promising this vintage - not something for the long run, although I have to say it's better now than two years ago, and probably still has a bit of improvement going on. (1697 views)
Tasted by Gece on 7/8/2016: Having a slight cold, so sensory equipment is not fully functioning. Seems nice enough, plenty oak, good fruit in a slightly smoky union. Acidity is a little lower than I'd prefer and alcohol a wee bit too pronounced, though. (1648 views)
Tasted by jeffreylubowski on 5/13/2015 & rated 89 points: Sb dominates with the cat pee and grapefruit and straw and grass. I thought it seemed more new Zealand but there is more body here. Its a good wine and worth the money but it needs more semillon for my tastes. (2476 views)
Tasted by Woodbridge Brad on 10/16/2014 & rated 90 points: Cat pee and sautéed sweet onions in the nose with a very light straw color. In the mouth ample acid and the flavors moved to stone fruits of white peach and pear. Lovely but too expensive. (2358 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 5/17/2014 & rated 91 points: Grassy and herbal with lime and flowers, minerals as well as some cat p notes on the nose. Bright fruit, really fresh, herbal and good length. Very good. 90-92 (2099 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 5/8/2014 & rated 89 points: UCGB tasting Bordeaux 2011 (Amsterdam): Beautiful and elegant wine with good oak and citrus and some bitterness in the finish. Age it a few years. 89+ for now. (2530 views)
Tasted by europat55 on 1/26/2014 & rated 89 points: 2011 Union des Grands Crus Tasting (Bentley Reserve, San Francisco CA): Light yellow, gorgeous refined nose (A-). Very good, crisp palate (B+). (2258 views)
Tasted by bestdamncab on 1/25/2014 & rated 88 points: Union Des Grand Crus Tasting 2011 Vintage, nose of citrus, minerals, and spring flowers, same on the palate, medium/big body, tasty, crisp, touch of bitters on the medium/long finish. (449 views)
Tasted by PanosKakaviatos on 1/17/2014 & rated 89 points: Bordeaux 2011 from bottle (Park Hyatt Hotel, Washington D.C.): Very brisk and high toned, with notes of pear and lime. But was it over steely? Look, I love mineral driven wines that do not depend of ripeness and fat to impress - well, I do sympathize with the Anti Flavor Elite :-). But this one is almost for ascetics. Tasting along with me was none other than famous Virginia winemaker Rutger de Vink - http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/food/wine-first-growth-virginia-a-fledgling-vintner-wants-to-prove-its-possible/2011/03/07/ABonkTY_story.html - who agreed, dubbing it "edgy." I really like what owner Tristan Kressmann - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hmqhCqpoBo - has been doing at this estate and generally love his whites - I bought a six pack of his 2010 for example. But I wonder if the 2011 is too steely for its own good? Will it stand the test of time? The prices are good, so worth a try. (3161 views)
Tasted by stassivo on 10/26/2013: Le Salon du Vin de la Revue du Vin de France 2013 (Brussels): Complex nose with peach, gravel, floral notes and some smoke. Full-bodied and silky-textured on the palate. Rich finish, very elegant. (1834 views)
Tasted by hubas on 1/6/2013 & rated 90 points: Strong hints of graphite and black currant. Great balance and impressive length (1085 views)

Vins Bordeaux (Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux)

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman
