Tasted by Nerdy Earth Boy on 1/19/2019 & rated 95 points: Bordeaux Perfection! This Reserve blend from an excellent vintage by an excellent producer is one sets the benchmark standard. Give it an hour to really excel, but the floral aroma is immediately wafting around the room and the luscious foamy blackberry is completely smooth and beautiful. I remain a HUGE fan. (1301 views)
Tasted by Alfaro on 9/10/2018 & rated 90 points: Smooth, ripe and sweeter then I expected. (1087 views)
Tasted by Nerdy Earth Boy on 8/16/2018 & rated 93 points: Magical California Bordeaux! Absolutely perfect blend of floral bouquet and black cherry/blackberry aroma that was wonderfully smooth. Definitely not past its best at age 17. (1385 views)
Tasted by Nerdy Earth Boy on 8/10/2016 & rated 92 points: Delightful! Just the right fruit balanced perfectly. Great floral aroma. Lucious blackberry dark cherry Bordeaux like magic. Mt Veeder mixed the magic elixir years ago. (2273 views)
Tasted by GTFreek on 2/18/2015: My winner at a special lunch amongst 4 older Napa cabs. Bordeaux style age and balance. Beautiful. (1691 views)
Tasted by Skip4wine on 6/29/2014 & rated 91 points: worried that I waited too long but was wrong. Aged color but not yet bricking. A little barnyard on the nose. Still some tannnic structure but I think it is time to drink now to the next 2 years. Balanced red fruit flavors and integrated oak. Could use some complexity. (2806 views)
Tasted by roasted hill on 6/16/2014: better yet. still primary. sorry that it's my last bottle. (2692 views)
Tasted by ashife on 12/1/2013 & rated 94 points: Was a bit overpowering on day 1, but really opened up on day 2. It was actually quite amazing. (2991 views)
Tasted by WVwino on 9/13/2013 & rated 91 points: I was afraid this had lost it's punch but not at all. Was delicious with a filet roast - wow - glad I saved it until now. (3029 views)
Tasted by bobvictor on 8/26/2013 & rated 90 points: Full bodied. Lush Cabernet that lacked complexity (2230 views)
Tasted by jbehrendt on 6/10/2012 & rated 92 points: Drank with a standing rib roast prepared on the grill for Mothers' Day. Really a wonderful wine. Complex and long lasting. (2112 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 4/22/2012 & rated 90 points: Domestics 10 Years Old and Older (Pittsburgh Blue, Edina, MN): Small pour. Nice, earthy, cassis, blackberry, young, spice, tobacco, firm tannins. (2516 views)
Tasted by bwillia on 2/28/2012 & rated 92 points: Very nice. A little modern and Oakey but still very nice. (2300 views)
Tasted by jbehrendt on 2/9/2012 & rated 93 points: Served at a fund raising dinner (6 courses and 6 wines). This was the hit of the evening. (1943 views)
Tasted by ashife on 2/3/2012 & rated 94 points: Drank even better than the last one. After a bit of decanting, it's just amazingly smooth. Tannins are so well integrated, you barely notice. Nose has a tons of fruit. (1974 views)
Tasted by davergny on 1/9/2012 & rated 89 points: Open 2 hours. Dark ripe fruits, a hint of cedar on the nose. Good concentration, ripe fruits, a little port like, some bitter chocolate and bitter tannin on the palate. Drank well with grilled steak, but too simple and lacking zest or excitement. A little disappointing, especially for the vintage which is supposed to be great, but maybe it gets better with some aging. Doesn't seem to have the structure though. P.S., Well, the last glass, after 4 hours, was excellent. The wine came together and had a lovely texture. 89+ (2192 views)
Tasted by roasted hill on 1/7/2012: Decanted, then consumed over dinner. Garnet with looong legs. Cherry and tobacco with a hint of lead pencil in the nose. Cherry with underlying tree fruit, tobacco, spice, and barely perceptible tannins in the mouth after a moderate finish. Nicely mature and drinkable. (1492 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 11/19/2010: Slow O for 2 hrs, consumed over the following 3 hrs. This lovely blend continues to drink well, packing so much fruit into a seamlessly integrated package full of cool mountain fruit and lovely secondary aromas. In a really, really good place right now. Sorry it was my last one. Recommended, drink thru 2014. (2332 views)
Tasted by beezer6 on 9/22/2010 & rated 90 points: Constellation and SWS Cabernet Dinner (Gibson's Steakhouse - Chicago): Dark big blackberry fruit, old used leather and cigar box. Some musty dusty attic aromas - Old World qualities.
Really sleek palate - a mouth coating wine with a finish still with plenty of structure and backbone. Finishes with baking spice and cinnamon flavors. (2403 views)
Tasted by ticktock on 9/19/2010 & rated 93 points: Plenty of life left. Needed a slightly longer decant, but notes are consistent with previous bottle. (2451 views)
Tasted by mjf@ulkner on 5/31/2010 & rated 89 points: Medium bodied. Tannins are smoothly integrated. Beautifully aromatic cassis and black cherry fruit. Quintessential old school Cali cab. (2519 views)
Tasted by ashife on 5/5/2010 & rated 93 points: Amazing wine. Not as powerful as some of the big California reds, but might be the most balanced wine I have ever had. (2836 views)
Tasted by ticktock on 1/10/2010 & rated 94 points: Rib Roast and Napa Cabs (Our House, San Diego, CA): This is finally where it's supposed to be. Old world style wearing Napa fruit with bottle age. Amazing perfume and almost perfectly balanced. Definitely would have held its own with any great Bordeaux. Tannins were perfect. (3175 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 11/7/2009: Pop n pour. Dark ruby core with marginal bricking. A fresh nose full of red berries, cream, pipe tobacco and toffee. On the palate, a rich, yet balanced effort full of creamy berries, vanillin and perfumed violets. I've got one more left and will enjoy it within next 3 years. Approx $52, 14,1% abv. 4000 cs made. Recommended, but my $52+tax purchase price seems a little lofty right now. (2438 views)
Tasted by jedly on 8/1/2009 & rated 89 points: Excellent. (2797 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
