Tasted by ThompsonandFrench on 6/5/2023 & rated 92 points: Juan’s best vintage ever? Consumed and much enjoyed. (350 views)
Tasted by Eudemis on 11/7/2017: This is the "Porrera", and there is a photo of black slates in the top quarter of the label, but the actual words "black slate" do not appear on said label.

14% alcohol. Good long dense cork with no wine penetration. Medium colour.
The nose is very pretty with a touch of (unproblematic) volatile acidity underlying some fairly decadent pot pourri aromas. Captivating in the same way as Emmanuel Reynaud's wines. The mouth is equally good, with little enough volume but great intensity and blackberry liqueur; high-pitched without being acidic.
A pretty unusual balance, but a very interesting one. No protruding oak.
I had this slightly cool, and I think that it was to the wine's advantage.
A repeat purchase. (1093 views)
Tasted by WilD on 10/21/2016 & rated 91 points: Great Priorate nose. Licorella, wet stones, minerals. Nicely developed and at its peak. Very elegant. Drink it now or within a year. (2235 views)
Tasted by wolfonthehill on 5/28/2016 & rated 92 points: Ready now. Perfect slightly chilled with paella. No reason to hold further. (2465 views)
Tasted by WilD on 10/14/2015 & rated 91 points: Still good performance. Drank out of a decanter. Licorella and sweet oak influances. Liked it. (2853 views)
Tasted by clio_wine on 9/8/2014: Good. Prunes, leather, cedar. Fruity, moderately lingering finish; surprisingly, still a touch of alcohol on the attack. Good but below expectations. (3436 views)
Tasted by d'Yquembe Mutombo on 3/29/2014 flawed bottle: Pruney & overripe mess. (3798 views)
Tasted by Quarked on 12/29/2013 & rated 90 points: Fruit is muted, but plenty of leather, mushrooms, a hint of iodine and some bitterness that dissipated with air. Very nice, but I preferred the '06 Mas Doix Salanques at this price point. (2343 views)
Tasted by Sir-Harrie on 3/28/2013 & rated 91 points: Den Wein unbedingt dekantieren. Toller Nachklang. Klasse (3031 views)
Tasted by Weinfreund JR on 10/29/2012 & rated 91 points: Der Wein ist voluminös und breit am Gaumen mit perfekt ausgereifter Fruchtkomponente (Cassis, Schwarzkirschen, Holunder, reife Brombeeren), deutlicher Würze, feiner Mineralität und einem dunklen Schokoladenkern mit zartbitterem Anklang. (3265 views)
Tasted by BlancdeBlanc on 10/9/2012 & rated 90 points: 50% garnacha, 40% carinena, 10% cabernet sauvignon. Nose: licorice, char, dark fruits Palate: tannins, leather/tobacco, prune/cherry/rhubarb. Fruit is subdued here. Very appealing wine. (3388 views)
Tasted by hazenyc on 4/4/2012 & rated 92 points: Great again, decanted a little longer than usual and to be honest, this wine opens up nicely after 20-30 minutes and that's all that is needed, don't want to oxidize too many of the complex flavors already in the bottle. (3135 views)
Tasted by wolfonthehill on 3/1/2012 & rated 92 points: Needed just a bit of time in the decanter to finish opening. At 30 minutes, was great... at 90, was spectacular. Amazing bouquet on the nose - fruity and floral. Rich on the palate, but more subdued than the nose. Highly satisfying. (2914 views)
Tasted by Roest on 10/30/2011: Very nice purity of fruit. Delicious now and the next couple of years (3746 views)
Tasted by tourette on 9/13/2011: Another fantastic bottle. (3314 views)
Tasted by cryptochrome on 7/17/2011 & rated 90 points: a Priorat that is this good and costs this little (in comparison to most other Priorats) is a real bargain. very good stuff, put a few cases in your cellar!

it's not quite on par with the winery's Mas d'en Compte (which is three times the price), but it's better than most "every day" wines. (4756 views)
Tasted by tourette on 7/9/2011 & rated 91 points: This bottle was better than the last. Or perhaps it was my mood and the company. Whatever the case, its very nice. Florals, herbs, and cherries spring from the glass. Red fruits, and quite feminine. I'm glad I have a few more, though I doubt they'll last long. (2786 views)
Tasted by tourette on 6/16/2011 & rated 90 points: Nice, lighter styled Priorat. Red fruits and a beautiful acidity. Not too much complexity yet, but its young. (2507 views)
Tasted by hazenyc on 6/8/2011 & rated 93 points: Robust fruity nose and good full flavor. Nice tannin and mouthfeel. Could use a little more time in the cellar but perhaps that's because I didn't decant this time (I will for my next bottle) (2356 views)
Tasted by bobbylion on 1/26/2010 & rated 91 points: it got delivered today and i popped and poured. so i could see this going higher than 91 with time. i love the taste for 16 euros. has something cote rotie ish. will see if i can order more. some smoke, some leather, but also fruit and tannins that begin to integrate nicely. very good! (2949 views)
Tasted by huse on 1/7/2010 & rated 92 points: A distinctive, almost feminine Priorat wine (Porrera) with a varietal composition of 50 percent Garnatxa, 40 percent Carinyena (very old vines) and 10 percent Cabernet Sauvignon. Oak regime: aged for 14 months in new French Allier (70%) and American (30%) barriques and a further 8 months refinement in the bottle. Deep purple-red colored wine with a rich, flavorful bouquet (Carinyena dominated) of fresh cherries, cassis, almonds and some earthy tones. Extremely elegant, medium-bodied palate, with massive loads of succulent red fruit, a velvety structure and well-balanced tannins. Long finish with some sweet spicy elements. I don’t think this is a wine for long keeping. But it is incredibly delicious at present. Why wait, drink it now and over the next few years.

(4971 views)
Tasted by huse on 1/7/2010 & rated 90 points: A Garnatxa-Carinyena blend (60/40 percent), that spent 12 months in French (60 %) and American (40 %) barriques (second use). Decanted for one hour. A little lighter in alcohol and texture than most of the Priorat wines, but it is very accessible at the moment. Nice dark garnet colored wine with a pleasant nose of black fruit, liqueur, cinnamon and a subtle touch of dark chocolate. The palate reveals good personality with intense and ripe fruit elements (cassis, black cherry, elderberry), well integrated tannins en a fine acid core. Pretty, spicy finish. Drink it now through 2012.

Deugdelijke, kruidige finale. Te drinken: nu tot 2012. (6079 views)
Tasted by Sijan on 10/29/2009 & rated 95 points: An absolutely delicious, distinctive wine. Quite rustic and terroir-driven. Rich and powerful on nose and palate - the carignan has a strong presence here. Very dark flavors - earthy and even a bit dusty, with anise and a very dark fruit backbone. Nice acidity provides good balance. Highly evocative of the rugged hillsides around Porrera, in Priorat, where the grapes were grown. This was the best of several excellent wines we tasted this evening. Was decanted for an hour or two prior to consumption, which may have released some of the initial tightness on the palate, but this wasn't so tight on the palate that it couldn't have been a pop and pour. Definitely need to get more. (3354 views)
Tasted by joshwoodward on 10/24/2009 & rated 90 points: Churchill's: 2006 Priorat (Maumee, OH): Massive nose, unfortunately dominated by bitter oak and cigarette butt. Much better on the palate, very smooth and rich. It's still oaky, and has some heat, but it's balanced with delicious black plum and grape jelly. Light tannins, medium+ acidity, big body. Not overripe. Ager? Fruit forward new world style. $50 (3615 views)

Celler Cal Pla

Producer website

One of the oldest grape-growing families in the Priorat, the Sangenis family had historically sold the entirety of their production to the local coop until 1995 when they formed a new company, Mas d'en Compte, to bottle wine under their own name.
Now, young Joan Sangenis manages the estate and makes the wines and has converted the entire estate away from chemical pesticides and herbicides."

"In a region where almost everyone has a few vines over 50 years old, the Sangenis family’s entire vineyard is practically this old, with several small parcels of 100+ year old vines of Grenache and Carignan. Also, they are one of the few holders of extremely old vine white Grenache, a varietal that many properties have ripped out. This old vine material means that yields are extremely low and concentration quite high." -Importer

Vinos de España - Wines of Spain (Instituto Español de Comercio Exterior) | Wikipedia
Wine Map on weinlagen-info

Spain is the third largest wine producing nation in the world, occupying the majority of the Iberian Peninsula with vast diversity in climate, culture, and of course, wine. From inky, dark reds of the [Priorat] to dry, white Finos from Andalusia, Spain can easily boast of elaborating a wide variety of notable styles. Within Spain there are currently 62 demarcated wine regions, of which a handful have gained international recognition: [Rioja], Priorat and [Ribera del Duero]. Yet these regions are only a small sample of the high quality wines Spain produces. Regions such as Cava, Penedes, Somontano, Galicia, Rueda and Jerez are only a few of the numerous regions worthy of exploration throughout Spain. Spain can also lay claim to having the most land under vine in the world, growing up to, by some accounts, 600 indigenous varietals of which Tempranillo is their most well known. Other popular varietals include [Garnacha], Bobal and Monastrell for reds and for whites; the infamous [sic] Palomino Fino grape which is used in the production of sherry wine, Pedro Ximenez in Montilla Morilles, Albarino used in the creation of the bright, effervescent wines of Galicia, and Verdejo in Rueda. - Source: - Catavino.net

Spain is not in the forefront of winemaking for its dessert wines, other than for its sweet wines from Sherry country including the highly revered Olorosos (when sweetened). But apart from Sherry Spain has a range of styles of dessert wines, ranging from the those made from the Pedro Ximenez grape primarily in Jerez and Montilla-Moriles) to luscious, red dessert wines made in the Mediterranean from the Garnacha (Grenache) grape. Some good Moscatels are made in Mallorca, Alicante and Navarre. The northwest corner of Spain, Galicia, with its bitter Atlantic climate, is even making dessert wines, called “Tostadillos” in the village of Ribadivia (similar to France’s “Vin de Paille”). The Canary Islands have made interesting dessert wines for centuries (they are mentioned by Shakespeare, for example) and in recent years the quality of winemaking has been improved and the Canary Islands wines are being better marketed now. The winemaking styles for “Vinos Dulces” are also diverse, from “Late Harvest” (Vendimia Tardía) to “Fortified Wines” (Fermentación Parcial). Based on in-spain.info.
